Sorry man but there is just no way to spin this anymore. It´s game over for the Vita.

I still find it so bizarre they combine Ps2 and 3. Makes it seem like they're hiding something.

They're hiding the Vita numbers, it would look extra suspect if the were only combining handheld stuff so they combine the console aswell to make it look less dubious.
You underestimate the power of hope. It ain't over till the fat lady sings. Or Sony officially discontinue the device. Whichever comes first. You really misinterpreted. I was meaning that I hope this will stop the wishful "waiting for". Sony is showing has no intention to relaunch the console in any way.

Can't they hide Vita behind PSP though? Why add the two home consoles?

The Vita? Isn't it obvious?I still find it so bizarre they combine Ps2 and 3. Makes it seem like they're hiding something.
eh, i dunno. we've seen some crazy turnarounds in this industry before. i think we'll have to let the ps4 be about a year old before we know the real fate of the vita. sony heavily marketed its ability to connect with consoles from the onset. they also released it at a very weird time.
To me, this seems more than a declaration. 5 million PSP+Vita is freaking terrible, considering PSP is still selling some units in Europe.
Oh come on Z, you know investors don't give a shit about single product sku's under performing, so the question will be ignored. That is why they are lumped together to begin with.Yes, Vita shipments, behind PSP.
Anyway, if we can get a question I've requested that our guy ask the COO for a breakdown of PS3 and Vita sales and ask why they are obfuscating current gen sales with last gen products.
well, if a year from now the vita has a userbase of about 11 million people, that wouldn't be all that bad going into next gen. smaller companies could still support it if sony was still planning for it to be a thing. there might even be chances for ps4/vita crossover games for bigger titles.
if sony pulls out after next year, which really means forecasting less than they are this year, then the dedicated handheld market will only belong to nintendo again, after nearly a decade. but man, that would be one war-torn landscape. sure aren't things like mega man and sonic regularly headed its way.
I think E3/TGS/GC this year will be telling on the approach sony has for Vita.
So in 3 years it takes Sony to sell 11 million Vitas, that's really bad and I don't think that crossover will help sales that much tbh. So vita will in the end sell worse or on par with GC :|

Their forecast already says it all. They've got nothing planned that they think will ignite sales.

Which platform has ever recovered from abysmal sales, absolutekly zero relevant third party support and barely any first party support (not that Sony could really do much they just don´t have any handheld IPs)?
And the console "handheld" connection is absolutely uninteresting for most customers as you could see with the PS3/Vita/PSP and also the WiiU. That´s not going to change with the PS4.

How are they still shipping PS2s? Didn't production end like 2 quarters ago?
Also the only way the Vita can be saved at this point is if they bundle it with the PS4
PS3?
Dunno how its first party support was on 2006-2007.
It's hilarious how many of the Vita statements can be so directly comparable to Wii U, I sometimes lose track whether I'm in a Sony or Nintendo thread. In a bigger market, and coming from a platform that sold more than 70 million units. Incredible.

Honestly, when you put it to the perspective, Sony is better off focusing on Mobile than Vita. Xperia Z sold around 4.6 million in 40 days, i.e. about the same as the Vita so far, and that product has a much higher margin. Now, of course, Sony won't be getting much software sales from the Z and will need to release another successor to it to keep the sales coming in but it does demonstrate a very good point.
Oh aye, it's certainly an admission of the products weakness. To me, this seems more than a declaration. 5 million PSP+Vita is freaking terrible, considering PSP is still selling some units in Europe.
So is Sony doomed or saved?
In other words, no Vita price cut? They are just riding this out in the most profitable way it seems.

So for the year PS3 shipped more software than all Nintendo platforms combined. How the tables have turned.
That's kinda expected.
Holy shit 20 million to reach the Wii?
How many PS2's Sony sold after the PS3 launched?
They are just now making PS3s officially available on some developing countries like Brazil.
It would be hilarious if the PS3 ended this generation on the first place.
I just noticed that the DS moved more software than the Vita and PSP combined...

usually the way of things has been that through a first couple of years, a fanbase builds very slowly. this was actually true of the 360 and ps3. by the time the system is affordable for the mass market, the install base is high enough that bigger games can make the sales they need to make a profit.
the sega genesis came out to a lukewarm response at best. sega made serious inroads in the western market when sonic the hedgehog came out, by bundling it with the system (replacing altered beast), slashing the price, and rolling out a heavy marketing campaign. it was kinda-sorta against what the japanese branch wanted, but it worked out beautifully for them.
the original playstation also wasn't a smash hit. it had no problem beating the saturn when it was the only competition for two years, but the n64 was expected to crush it. but again, after two years, the system had a price drop, the right software, and the right marketing, and a decent install base where it could continue to get big third party games.
things are different now in the handheld gaming market, but there's no rule that says sony can't make the next big thing on the vita if they wanted. who expected brain age to sell 14 million units when it debuted with 40,000 in first-week sales in 2005?
i think it's less about the ps vita being the extra controller or whatever, and more about it perhaps receiving software due to its relation to the ps4. if it's bigger franchise titles, it could be the kick in the pants it needs to stay steady for the next couple years and land with a respectable lifetime sales of about 30m units or so.
To be fair in the last quarter in the UK DS software outsold PSP, Vita, and 3DS software (standalone, not combined). DS was and still is a beast. Many shops here in Ireland still have a DS section with a few 3DS games thrown in.I just noticed that the DS moved more software than the Vita and PSP combined...
That's kinda expected.
I think E3/TGS/GC this year will be telling on the approach sony has for Vita.
