Sony not going to talk about PS6 for "years", more focused on games and software right now - Mark Cerny

Sony isnt expected to talk about the PS6 for years and focus on software

on the Sony side, Cerny doesn't expect to be talking about anything other than software for years to come.

"AMD is moving extremely quickly," Cerny said. "What I'm trying to do is prepare for the next generation of consoles, so my time-frame is multi-year here."

I know we have been hearing rumblings about a PS6 coming soon, but this may indicate they won't talk about it for another couple of years at the earliest, and are more focused on getting the games out. Hopefully this means a 2028 release at the earliest.

I'm loving Death Stranding 2 so far! It would be great for them to talk about actual software that people want for years, now that they've wasted so much time of PS5's lifecycle on GAAS and live service garbage.

There is no rumbling. The hardware for a mainstream Console in portable form does NOT EXIST.

PS8 or PS9 might be a portable. Assuming that we couldn't make the hardware any more powerful and batteries got better. Anyone who take PS6 portable seriously know nothing about how portables work.

Sony has no reason to rush next gen, and in any case customers don't want to buy it unless there are games for it, the jump is substantial enough, and it isn't too expensive. People who want next gen early either doesn't understand the market, or they are Xbox executives.

Perfect. Glad to hear they aren't rushing anything out the door. I think that literally no one wants to see a PS6 released earlier than 2028.

If PS6 doesn't launch until late 2028 then Is expect first part games on PS5 until at least 2030.

That means over 5 more years of PS5 support, plenty of time for them to build a great catalogue of titles.

I'd change that 90% lock to 85% just to be on the safe side.
Nintendo took 8 years to come out with new hardware for a less capable machine, so I could see Sony riding the PS5 for that long, especially considering the much slower advancements when it comes to semiconductors. It's speculated that if the PS6 were to come out in late 2027, it'd have a GPU comparable to a 4080, which is, if memory serves right, around 2.5x the performance of a base PS5. Maybe they could wait a bit longer and get something 3x more powerful? Closer to a 4090.

I didn't check the timetable for UDNA, so I'm just throwing a wild guess here.

During the ABK court trial, there was a statement from Sony about how they didn't expect to launch a new generation of console until 2028.

I suspect if Xbox continues to decline, they could even push that back a year if the PS5 is still selling well enough.

I agree. The PS6 is going to be a very tough sell. Why upgrade your PS5/pro (which is already powerful enough for many people) for 2-3 years of cross-gen games? a 2x power increaes is just not enough to sell a likely overpriced console these days. I expect they'll wait as long as possible to announce something as "impressive" as they can to differentiate it.

yea if sony release ps6 early i think theres even less people jumping to ps6, most will stick with ps5 or ps5 pro

Probably the right call. I think demand for a PS6 would be at historic lows if they rushed it. They barely have their PS5 games ready, let alone PS6 games.

The last time they launched a console, they plastered Halo Infinite all over the box but don't have the game available for sale. Tell me what Microsoft had done since that would change this next time.
get a head start on sony ps6 , 1 or 2 years maybe , change multiplatform strategy and bring exclusives to xbox again , also money-hat 3rd party developers for exclusives

So this entire scenario is predicated on a fantasy where Microsoft randomly completely does a 180º pivot on strategy?

Cerny had said that they plan to bring improvements for PSSR's PS5 Pro in 2026. It's kinda obvius that at moment they are not planing to release a new console anytime soon. Late 2029 would be the better date for them for a lot of reasons.

I think it comes out at the end of 27.
However, it's obvious that they're going to say things like "it's years away" "or it's going to take a while", things like that, otherwise they're going to kill PS5 sales.
The PS5 itself has been denied several times, even though it had been leaked 2 years earlier.

I hope the Switch 2 success delays next gen. Sony really needs to focus on their internal software development anyway. It's the pits right now.

You are not going to have the games ready for launch. 6 years gestation is MINIMUM for AAA titles. You wanting the console to launch early means killing the console in the womb.
you never know , MS has big warchest
That chest had already bottomed out.

Most games are still within the power of this gen. Only games like Witcher 4, GTA VI, and Elder Scrolls VI are really going to be need next gen stuff but the rest of the upcoming games 99% of them at least still fits into this gen like FFVII part 3, 3, Space Marine 3, Stellar Blade 2, next Ratchet and Clank, Upcoming RE remakes and other RE games etc etc.

Plus when next gen comes out, that means PC would be getting them too and right now because of the prices, most people are still on the lower end of PC hardware. Once more affordable PC parts comes where even low end cards would be good enough than they'll start releasing the next gen stuff.

On the one hand, good. On the other, maybe ps6 should come so we can have more "nextgen" games on ps5 as the 60fps obsessed crowd will get the new console and ps5 players can get a real jump in fidelity when devs are not harassed by these people for designing games around 30 fps, as the first couple years will be like the same games, but 60 fps on ps6, if we take the situation with ps4 and ps5 as the basis

I really hope so. It would be amazing if some of that catalogue consisted of some nice platformers like Sly Cooper or Ape Escape. I crave PS2 gen nostalgia games like SSX and Burnout too.

that might change if microsoft releases a new xbox console and gets a headstart
The only way that happens is if Microsoft pulls the rug out from porting games to Playstation the moment they announce the new system.

I've owned every Xbox but I'm not buying another one if they're just gonna release games on PlayStation. I'll just keep buying Playstation.
