Sony produces the best exclusives along with Nintendo, hands down. Both companies have stepped up their game respectively, but Sony has managed to knock out consistent bangers almost the entire gen. They are at the top of the game right now, completely unstoppable. I hope the quality stays consistent throughout PS5 too, and so far they seem to be on track with HFW and Demon's Souls. It's good times ahead.

Yeah, my attitude is to have a PlayStation for home gaming and a Switch for mobile gaming.... works well for me and supports my favorite games.

Switch + Playstation is a fantastic combination. Probably the best one I've had since I started gaming. Covers every genre I like, from both western and Japanese developers.

I mean yeah it does (though many of the best selling games this gen have been cross-plat like gta and cod), but I wish they just had more variety this gen. The singular focus on single-player only with linear story-driven campaigns killed a lot of my interest in their first party this gen. My favorite games have been resogun (which came out at launch) and bloodborne. Both of which felt unique to the bulk of Sony's first parties (bloodborne may be "single player", but atleast it's focused on gameplay first and story second and has mp and co-op in a similar fashion to the souls series) and resogun is just an addictive little arcade shooter.

That would explain all the delays, they wanted to fit the games into one financial quarter, clever.
I'm confused - first you prove that the most successful games are the multiplatform games, and then you go saying that MS games are "useless" exactly because they are multiplatform, where's the logic? SoT reached 10MLN players recently, Grounded 1MLN within first 48h, and so on, so apparently there is quite an audience for their games.

All these games were on Saturn as well, they are perfectly fine on the console by the way. Marketing, TV adds matters just as much.

Also people will play them, doesn't mean someone bought a XB1 over a PS5 for them, and they didn't.
Granted PS5 and XBSX have GTA, COD, Fifa, Madden, Mortal Kombat and Assassin's Creed, can you see many people getting a XBSX over a PS5 because of Halo and Fable?

No need, because of Microsoft's purchase of Obsidian, Sony can easily have Bethesda games aligned with PS5 marketing/promotion. Phil isn't going to upset the crown jewel of their first party studios to have a marketing deal with Bethesda. Skyrim on next gen exclusively on PS5
, seriously though the next Elder Scrolls will be aligned with PC/PS5 in marketing.

Even if XBox converted all their console sales (50 million) to subscriptions at 15 dollars.... it's still only 750 million gross revenue. Then you have to deduct all the expenses..... it's no threat to PlayStation at all.

But that's completely irrelevant in this entire software-based business, you sell 10MLN consoles, 20, 50, 100, a billion, it doesn't matter, you don't make a profit anyway, but if you sell 1mln, 5, 8, 10, 15 copies of a game, the numbers do stack up
Yes, those games are exactly the reason people chose cheaper X360 over PS3, and cheaper PS4 over XB1, not because of Halo or Fable, if anything multiplatform games are the best examples why 1st party games don't matter much, especially in times where it takes 5-7 years to make them, so they don't come earlier than 2nd half of the generation, an there are only so few of them, there's a reason both hesitate so much to show off their price tag first.

I think we will definitely get some of that stuff but I am doubtful on a 1st party JRPG... we will probably get FF16 fully exclusive though and the next persona and level 5 games.That would fucking good as well.....remember this!?

I think exclusives matter. I also think they're bad for consumers.
But sony and xbox aren't really making the money on hardware sales, microsoft is just as happy for you to buy forza on pc as they are for you to buy it on xbox.

Historically, not as much as today. But it matters more now that 3rd-parties are supporting as many platforms as they can, and that platform capabilities/features are very similar. The PS3 sold over a 100 million consoles too but their first-software sales overall weren't' that great. The weren't bad but their average sales per game is probably many times higher now than it was during the PS3 days of first-party games.
First-party always matters because it drives hype because they are usually inherently exclusive which creates positive buzz and a justification to buy but there's a lot of different reasons why people choose a console and it's not always a first-party (or exclusive) game like some people think. Not everybody is interested in a first-party game when buying a console. Some people just have consoles that use to play Minecraft, Fifa, Fornite or GTA all day.
Both companies should continue to invest in first-party for the direct and indirect benefits but I think people forget that not everybody cares about it.

Not at all. The Pandemic is having an affect but when folks are buying PS5s left and right this holiday and get online hammering the servers. Slowing download speeds to a crawl, many will be glad they bought the disk version.
I bet the disk version outsells the digital version ATLEAST 2 to 1 maybe even 3 to 1.

Just wanted to point out that, that's 750 million gross revenue per month in your hypothetical or 9 billion per year. I don't have issue with the other things you said just making sure the example is clear. 9 billion is a lot of revenue for a year but there's probably a lot of expenses as you implied (so less profits) and this is an ideal situation so it's probably not going to get that high even with PC.
that was made PS1 legend that it is till now and forever... nothing can come even close to it ...when all those 3d game started and when we beging to sink into those worlds... nothing can come even close to it , no matter what they make these days .... it was just ... something else. i rented PS1 console and one time i played it non stop no sleep no eat like 36 hrs . it was all PS1 exclusives games back then .

Sony has been profiting from PS4 hardware since 2014 so...
The value proposition for electronics in general has changed, esp in the US, since the end of subsidized smartphones. I believe this to be the reason that the PS4 has yet to permanently drop to a $199 price point.

Exclusives do truly matter. Even if you have 90% of the same games, it might be that diminutive 10% that pushes someone over to the competition.

Some moderate to big budget JRPG's.
A fighting game or two. A new 3D fighter would be a miracle. New IP's.
New Ninja Gaiden or DMC-style action games.
Another Bloodborne or games similar to it.
Japanese-style horror games that aren't hide and seek or walking simulators with actually combat. Third person preferably. First person is WAY overdone. Silent Hill?? Fatal Frame?
I do play all types of games, but Japanese games are my childhood and what got me into gaming and the PlayStation in the first place. I know Western games usually make more money for Sony, but that doesn't mean you should neglect Japanese games. They are still in demand and can still sell really well.
