South of Midnight is one of the weakest Game Pass release on Steam ever with only 1500 players

Hey dumbass I was refuting what the other loser said about it factually being unappealing a comment you approved. Since you know he's factually wrong your psc ass trying to shift the convo to me letting game journos dictate my gaming🤣🤣. You guys are so weak no wonder you rejects stick together.
I guess it's better to blaze out than slowly fade away.

Hook, line and sinker.

Commandos (also on Game Pass) is doing just about as shittily by the way. About neck and neck with SoM.

Blue Prince (also on Game Pass) is out tomorrow. Maybe that can do a little better.
Hey the Commandos reboot came out? Nice.

Been checking the user reviews on Steam and apparently it's a buggy release, some peopoe are saying they've refunded or are waiting for patches. Would explain the low ccu (aside from being a niche game).

All first party Xbox, Sony, Nintendo? Yeah....every time.
Yep, higher expectations for games made and published by the big 3. Recore got a ton of attention because of that. Had it not been published by MS no one would've paid it any mind.

not as predictable as the persecution complex from your camp

Might have to start adding that any criticism is a result of being "grifted" too. I've been seeing that more and more. The only reason people don't unconditionally like or love MS games (and MS itself) is because they're stupid enough to be tricked by Youtube/X grifters. Just like the persecution complex, it's a simplistic way to dismiss anything a person doesn't want to hear so some will gravitate towards it.

What do you expect? Third person AA game from a small dev and a generic character. Just like that other game that had the Witcher actress. Just nobody gives a fuck about these types of games.

If this wasn't on gamepass it would have financially bombed hard and closed the studio.

As it happens it's perfect game pass slop. Seems gamepassers are happy with the constant stream of mediocre games . With these budgets and studio purchases they could develop bigger games, yet focus on shit like that that nobody buys and nobody is subbing for.

Genuine shame as it is one of the more interesting looking games in recent years imo.
It looks nice - but just around 2 hours in - and only thing I can call it so far is derivative.
Basically directly copying Kena in a lot of ways (which - really, was that even popular enough to copy?), but with none of the charm.
Unlike Kena - it's completely linear at this point though, and traversal is a lot more yanky/not all that fun.

Indy, Avowed, and Atomfall have all been fucking fantastic

This…I've downloaded it but have yet to make it past the opening cinematic… I'm sure I'll eventually give it a try…

Is it just me or does the stop go animation seem almost a bit jarring?

I think it feels extra cause the 30fps scenes also have improper frame-pacing per the DF video.

I think they've been fine so far, but I'm also glad they have the option to disable it during game-play, so at least the playing part feels fluid and 'proper'.

Is the core conflict/theme/etc that the magical protag doesn't realize how amazing she always was until the end of the game when she realizes how amazing she is and how society run by men were holding her back?

Cause if so...

THIS IS MY JAM!

I love magical-female-who-was-always-awesome slop. Fill the trough! Grab them funkco dolls. 10/10. Would get excited after consuming product.

I swear to god if protag is not snarky and insufferable to other characters within the first 2 hours, I am refunding this back to Steam.

Yeah, its busted on xbox. Have moved it to USB SSD for now.

Enemy view cones don't work, am not hearing any music or iconic dialogue, some weird UI problems. Also crashed and kinda locked the system. First time happened in 4+ yrs I have it.

But it does have some of the basics right. So waiting for patches.

It couldn't come as much of a surprise to them. It never looked like it would have broad appeal.

If you work with a consultancy group that helps you appeal to minorties, you'll get a minority market.

In games its even worse as the majority of the market are the opposite of what they're consulted towards.

The thing about SBI is they could do their work and it just suck, but no they go the extra mile to be racist pieces of shit and that's where they can all fuck off.
Well they already got paid ... they should tie this type of consultancy to SALES... and see the magic happening

Than again how MS exclusives are gona sell if they throw the thing for "free" ? ..welp..

Fubar all around

This. Well said.

Tie SBI's consultancy fee with game sales and performance and watch them disappear.

Valid complaints, I did enjoy kena, but I also thought it overstayed it's welcome.

From what I've seen in trailers the art style and settings looks fantastic for south of midnight, but a shame to hear traversal isn't fun.

I haven't got round too it yet myself. :)

I think that's part of their marketing, no one would pay any attention to their games unless one of their staff starts sperging out on X, or Blue Sky

Let's be charitable and say this sold 100K units across PC and Xbox and has another 2 million players on gamepass.

7 years of development by around 80-100 people in Montreal.

Unlikely that many, if any, people have subbed/will sub to gamepass for this game.

Could MS, or any company, be happy with this level of "success" ?

It is interesting how many similar games have failed over the last few years: Forspoken, Dustborn, Flintlock, Unknown 9, South of Midnight..

It's hilarious how they keep trying this "ugly diverse Strong Woman protagonist" shit. Do they even know their audience?

It's like if they kept writing romance novels where the male lead is some fat neckbeard gamer nerd, then got all upset when women didn't buy them.

This game is kinda in line with Compulsion's other games both in commercial performance and critical response.

Lots of imagination combined with very meh gameplay fundamentals.

Lol no.

No one pays consultants by sales performance because it turns a somewhat fixed cost (after the consultancy is over) into a variable cost that eats into your margins.

exactly, people coping with "but but muh gAmEPasS" is always funny to watch

being on gamepass is not an excuse for piss poor number on steam (1k player only!!!)

The Gamepass line becomes a convenient catch-all for people looking to excuse poor performance data elsewhere because it can't be proven or disproven.

77 on metacritic, 59 on user reviews and with Sweet Baby involved and some kind of girl boss variant as protag... It had flop all written over it.

Yeah but it's on gamepass so we are grading on a curve.

That means it made something like 200 million Uncle Phil bucks. Somebody can check my math, but I believe that's right.

Steam numbers actually matter here.

This game wont drive gamepass signups or renewals in any way. As far as that service goes, this is a money pit. The only way for it to prove it was worth the effort is through real sales. And so far that aint looking healthy at all.

How many years to make this (?) and it'll up and vanish like a fart in the wind. Compulsion will be quietly closed within a year.
