Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

OH YES! Finally, at freaking 8 PM (!?) the mailman arrived with my Splatoon copy. 8 PM!? What the hell :lol Still no sign of my Jiggly or Greninja amiibo though and they were dispatched Wednesday..

ANYWAY, so excited to try this game out. I missed all the Testfires!

This gets me thinking. I understand why red and, to some extent, brown aren't in the game, but why not black and white ink? What's bad about that?

Could red have something to do with trying to be friendly to colour blind gamers? I may be wrong but IIRC red is one of the colours some people have trouble with.

I tested the impact of abilites a bit with "bomb range up".
For those who are interested:
It seems like the effect of an ability doesn't stack when it's on the same piece of equipment. I have a hat with 2 "bomb range up" abilities and a hat with 1. same range!
If the ability is on different pieces it stacks! so with "bomb range" on my hat and and my shoes I can throw bombs even further.

I don't know if it's already known here. But I think it's nice to know ^^

Hmmm so abilities don't stack if their on the same piece? That is bullshit then. They shouldn't show up in the roulette. If you are gonna make the abilities be random then at least make it so you can't get the same ability. Imagine getting a 3* piece with the same ability on it 4 times!

I wasn't serious. I was just making fun of the "roller is OP!!" talk.

I know. I was just making a point about the weapons in general. I don't find that any one weapon is most powerful, just that people are grasping the strategies of individual weapons.

I was thinking they left red out because it looks like blood. But it could be a colorblind issue.

Just got the 3 pack amiibos. Can't wait to pick up the game after work at Best Buy, got it for $30 with the glitch they had last weekend :D

Has anyone tried unlocking the exclusive gear with the amiibos yet? How long does it take?

I wanna be the very best,
Like no one ever was.
To ink them is my real test,
To splat them is my cause.

I will paint across the land,
Searching far and wide.
Each enemy will understand
The ink that's inside

Splatooman, (gotta splat em all) its you and me
I know its not Destiny

I'm loving the game itself, but the controls are holding it back. The gyro isn't sensitive enough to use exclusively (unless you want to stand up and spin in circles), so you have to play it as if it were a dual analog game and just use the gyro for small adjustments.

Except you can't use the analog for vertical aim, so you have to break from the dual analog mindset and switch to exclusively using motion every time there's an altitude difference. You also have to make big, sweeping movements on the Y axis but not the X. Breaking the continuity of the controls like that is awkward and unintuitive.

Fuck gyro aiming. Come back to me, baby.

You know you can switch to full analog controls through the options on the Gamepad, right?

I'm considering picking this game up tomorrow. Looking through the OP, though, it seems a lot of features of the game aren't active yet. What's the compelling reason to pick it up now and not a couple months down the road in August, and save money?

To play it now. If you can wait that's fine. I don't think there are any kind of exclusive things for early adopters.

Hopeful Best Buy will still have the 3 pack when I get off work but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe there will be a reprint? LOL yeah, right.

I remember being somewhat confused about this pre-launch, and since I won't have the game until tomorrow I'll ask again now that some of you fine folks have it: is there any form of stat tracking in this game? Is that something that is maybe coming with the ranked battle update?

finished the singleplayer, all but one challenge for the Ink Girl and most Squid challenges. Not looking forward to beating the final boss with the charger. Time for some multiplayer

oh and I added my Nintendo ID to the spreadsheet

I have to correct myself. It seems like they do stack. but the secondaries have less impact.
example: with my hat and shoes with "bomb range up" as primaries I can throw further than only with my hat with "bomb range up" as primary and as a secondary

can anyone confirm that?

Wii U audience ain't big, not sure how long the competitive multiplayer will last. Especially if you live in a smaller region, here in Aus people avoided the Wii U like a plague for some reason so I'm not expecting MP to last for this game.

Just walked into a GameStop and got the triple Amiibo pack. I didn't even purchase the game yet but I knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity!

I was gonna wait to purchase the game, but these amiibos might just make me jump today. :)

How powerful are the abilities on the gear?

Cause currently it feels incredibly unfair to having to be matched up against the Japanese players who have been grinding the fuck away at the game and have gear with 4 abilities each while you only start with 1 or 2 on each item.

I've lost now 8 times in a row against teams with high level Japanese players.

Game has a MAJOR problem right now, which is rage-quitters. I've had a few matches where we lose with only 35%. Yeah, your team sucked and/or had inferior equipment, whatever. It's very a short match, and then you can get back in. Yet there have already, in under 20mins, been 3 matches where my team was doing very well and then "A connection error has occurred." Yeah, you mean someone fucking rage quit. And then we get nothing for it. Cool.

So I've been playing this for about 6 hours now... I beat the Single Player (will need to go back for the scrolls I missed) and thought it was fun, if not a bit short, and made great use of the ink with the layout of the stages and mechanics brought into play. The bosses were cool but on the whole very easy. Final Boss Spoilers:
I found this boss to be by far the best of the bunch. His attacks weren't hard to avoid but the way you damage him by sending the giant fists back at him was very satisfying to pull off.
The hardest thing in the single player was finding where the damn levels were lol.

I ranked from level 1 to 9 in about 3ish hours and played the Mall stage and the Skatepark stage for the first 2 and a half hours. The stages themselves were interesting (especially the 'openness' of the skatepark in comparison to the other stages I've played.) but I enjoyed the testfire stages and the underpass one more so. I tried out a bunch of primary and secondary weapon combos but always felt myself gravitate towards the Jr and Bubble shield. I also enjoyed the Roller but ended up killing a lot more than inking the field, which I dislike. I was completely destroyed when I used the Rifle but want to learn how to use it as it seems like, with practice, it could be one of the more enjoyable ways of playing.

Basically, the game's great and I look forward to the updates sometime in the future and hopefully it sells well enough for Nintendo to expand on the brand in the future.
Also, we need Inklings in Smash soooooo badly.

I'm pretty sure you can change the sensitivity of the controls in the options menu.

It's not even ranked, why rage quit. You get more points by sticking it out.

Yeah there's really no penalty for sucking and the matches are ultra fast so it doesn't make sense for someone to rage quit unless they're just assholes.

Soooo I was under the impression you couldn't use the wiimote at all in this game.

You can't use it in the main game modes. The dojo is the only place you can use a Wii-mote (and that's for local 1-v-1). Everything else requires you to have a Gamepad because there's information on the Gamepad's screen.
