I forgot to ask---how do you guys feel about 3 minute time length?

I feel it goes by WAY too fast. I feel the matches should be 5-6 minutes to give the game more back and forth...

It's perfect. It's enough time to where everything you do matters from start to finish. Too much back and forth would be tedious. You can assert a dominant position by the 1min mark, but 1min is also enough time to come back and edge out the win if you're behind.

I think you would see a lot more rage quitting when people are losing if the matches were much longer.

Will this be fun offline with just me and my girlfriend? Don't have internet hooked up yet at our new place and looking for something to play together.

I can fit two rounds in 6 minutes.

Things change so quickly in a match, I've been well ahead and been torn apart in the last minute. Longer lengths wouldn't change the outcome. Plus, getting stuck on a bad team and getting destroyed really wouldn't be fun for 6 minutes. Yeah, I'm talking those matches where you are shooting enemies from your spawn points. It happens.

I think they nailed the sweetspot for the time.

It goes by fast but not too fast in my mind, rapidfire but not frustratingly brief.

I think I need to level more and get into games with more even matched opponents for teams to see this take place. 3 minutes feels too short if you are on the losing team because it goes by so fast and get shit stomped haha.

I'll need to grind this game entirely tomorrow with my free time.

Is it easy to get 4 GAFfers together in this?

Is there any way to cancel out when searching for opponents? Seems like my game is getting stuck there once in a while. After waiting 5-10 minutes with no change, I finally had to just power off the system. I've seen it error out once or twice, but I can't find a way to just leave if it hangs like that.

Guess I can always just play Squid Jump for eternity though. It IS pretty fun.

I feel like it's pretty much just right. It always feels like it ends a bit too early, but it's good to leave you wanting more. Someone mentioned it already, but I love the 'one more match' feeling it gives.

Local 1 vs 1 seems pretty fun thought it runs at 30 fps.

I think she'd like that just popping balloons and swimming around in the ink looking to take you out.

no way, the matches are the perfect length to keep things heated

Yay, my shops changed over. Got some new level 3 shoes. And Spike had my first order ready. Woo!
Logging off for the night to get some much needed sleep, 15 hours played in my daily log. God damn. And I really want to keep playing but ohhhhhh so little sleep.

And splatting walls is easily the best way to get % without the other team noticing. I've had a number of battles where the ground was obviously for the other team but we win by like 1% due to us splatting walls everywhere.
Do walls count? The turf war rules (in-game text) specifically says "ground". Also, I did some testing and walls barely increase your special meter. Like maybe 1/5 compared to floor.

Maybe walls could break exact ties (although such a thing seems unlikely).

Long story short: painting walls is fun/OCD-fulfilling, and it having zero value made me sad, but it makes design sense.

It is fun and I just like climbing up them, especially stalking some dude on the other team who just did.

The idea of walls as climbing material is interesting—obviously, some walls become paths to higher ground, but there are other walls (like the skate park walls) that don't have as clear a functionality.

But yeah, it's not useless. It just doesn't "count."

I do not play MP anymore. I really do not. I used to play it all the time growing up. It was my preferred game type.
However having less time for gaming these days means I focus on a good SP experience and that is more than enough. I am still making my way through Bloodborne and I have owned it since Day 1.
I can say Splatoon was not really on my radar. I knew it existed. It even intrigued me, but I did not really pay it much mind.
Then I decided to check out the review thread on Gaf and could not help but notice the glowing reviews. I really could not help but notice the mention of the fact that the SP was actually really well done. A SP I had no clue existed until I read the review thread.
I checked my Nintendo account, and saw I had $49 in it that I had not spend in months. I checked and all I needed to do was add $13 to pick up Splatoon. I decided to do just that.

Well I have about 2 hours logged with the game so far and 15 minutes of them were spent on the SP. The rest has been all MP. Even crazier, I actually WANT to play the MP asap. Even crazier than that, I think I have maybe had the top score on my team once. Sometimes I am 3rd, sometimes 2nd, a lot of times I am dead last. 4th place. And you know what? I do not care what place I am in. I am enjoying the hell out of myself.

I really thought my days of playing MP were behind me. It is not even that I dislike MP that much, just that I enjoy playing SP that much more. All the MP games I play these days, even with my years of MP experience, I feel underpowered. Overwhelmed. Outgunned. Outclassed. While I clearly have a long way to go until I am what I would consider good at playing Splatoon, it actually does not matter. I have fun every single match. Pure old fun.

The above is truly amazing to me. I do not even know what it is about the game specifically, but there is something special about it. Kudos to Nintendo for getting me back into not only playing MP, but WANTING to play MP. That is, whether they know it or not, a tremendous achievement, and I thank them for it. This 40 year old man is back playing one of the game modes that provided him with the most memorable moments in my gaming history. Here's to the new moments I experience soon thanks to Splatoon.

Same actually. I went to bed a little late last night even though I got up early to pick up the game and I don't think I got enough rest amid everything else I did today.

Might just call it a night... but even though I'm a bit strained I'm still having fun. I feel like tomorrow is when the real action begins.

Go outside and sprint for 5-10 seconds everytime you feel tired. Dump anything and everything on places where you would go to sleep to discourage you from layimg down.

To late, just woke up. Slept through two alarms and now it's officially 12:11 Saturday.

On the bright side while I did wake up two times I was so tired I went straight back to sleep so I got close to 6 hours.

Time to start Splatoon as it's already in my disc drive.

I'm having fun but I'm also getting a bit frustrated at how bad I'm struggling with the controls. Whenever stuff gets tense, I completely lose my shit. I always try to control both axes with one method. I'm going to end up doing a full 360 trying to turn my character around someday. I've caught myself trying to pan up with the right stick a ton of times. I'm a moron.

I think the reason people find the aiming hard is because there isnt any auto aim (or if there is its very low).

Anyways I was totally surpised at how difficult the final boss was. Thats got to be one of the hardest bosses Nintendo has done in the modern era. The amount of stuff going on plus the required mastery of all the skills you've been taught was very impressive.

Man this game really has that "just one more game" thing down pat. I think it's because of the fast paced 3 minute battles and very short breaks between matches. I mean you just finish a match, do something for like a minute and then you're already in the game.

Done with my Splatoon playthrough. Spent couple of hours on multi and SP. Got to level 7 and bought some fresh gear. My Inkling looks dope as fuck.

Would play more if my Gamepad didnt run out of battery. Well done, Nintendo. This game is going to be a classic.

After much consideration, I have determined that Crusty Sean is the best character. He's cool and chill. Perfect combo.

Agreed. I love the tempura batter and all his small feet. It's like...duh! Makes perfect sense this guy would be into shoes.

Changing topics though, I can already tell I'm going to be absolutely pissed when this game gets snubbed for soundtrack awards at the end of the year. Last year, Tropical Freeze was completely ignored. This year, it'll be Splatoon.

Man, this game is awesome. Played around 90 minutes and am now at Level 5. Everything about this game oozes Nintendo charm. I love it love it looooove it.

Can't wait to check out single player later.

Played a bunch of matches so far, haven't won once haha. Always come in first or second but have no idea what the other people are doing.

Most matches it's not even close either. The other people on the team just rush into the other area and just die over and over again instead of actually inking all the things.

I don't get it.
