Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

guys i just finished the final boss...and it's amazing

that boss is one of the best things I've played in a while

Yeah, I said earlier in the thread that people were raving about the final boss and I wasn't expecting much because the bosses leading up weren't anything special. It was pretty awesome. Glad it wasn't very hard because it was pretty long, game over-ing at the last stage would have been frustrating.

For top of the page: Everyone should add [GAF] or GAF to the front of their mii name so that we are easily distinguishable and become a reputable clan group thingie. You can change your mii's name in the mii editor on the top left of the gamepad's home screen.

Hope to see a bunch of gaffers in the A+ rank once it comes out.

Can you really do that? I thought it used your NNID.

Good idea! I should be able to fit GAF and my name already in there too.

Use the right stick to get in the general vicinity of where you want to shoot, then use the gyro to fine tune your aim. It takes a little getting used to but once you get it you'll never want the gyro off again.

Yeh I definitely do better with gyro. I think conventional shooter controls are just burned into my brain and it's taking me a while to adjust.

I would but, I don't really want GAF to be on my name every time I make a miiverse post and stuff. It'd be cool if the game actually supported clans.

haha i would be up for this

[gaf] takes on splat zones starting tomorrow
It would probably be hard to get in the same Splat Zones room though because Ranked Battle does not seem to have no stinking "Join Friends" option. All media we've seen with it unlocked have only shown a random option.

'Aye aye, Cap'n

I started playing the game blind and just recently saw the Polygon article with the Top 5 tips for playing. My first match after reading it my team won by a dominant margin I was the top player on my team with over 1000 points and I went 8-0. What a massive difference those few tips made. They may seem obvious to a lot of people but for someone who more often than not sticks to SP gaming they were invaluable. Here is the article I am referencing.

Done. Now I know who to grief!

Bring on the teaBagging!

Is it me or the the splatter shot jr. is one of the best guns of the game even so is the first weapon you get? Not only that, its special is incredible useful when you are in a tough positions. Plus the grenade is not bad at all. I feel the fire rate makes up for the weak dmg and range.

it's the starter weapon for a reason, because it's easy to use, esp in turf wars

Any advantages for the eshop version? Realized the Canadian shop has it at $70 and I could just pay 5 more bucks for the physical version.

I guess I'd be giving it a direct sale and that's cool but physical seems like a better deal.

I find it so weird when people that complain about the content say stuff like "It's not worth 60$ now but it'll be in August" as if somehow buying it now prevents them from playing until August and then continue playing. Are they maximizing the NPV or something?

Unrelated, I have been exploring the walls metagame and it's hilarious. Since people mostly aim for the ground, you can hide in a wall and most people won't notice you. The amount of kills I've gotten that way is incredible. Some times people have chased me, I go around a wall and hide on it and they don't notice, go past me and I kill them from behind.

Is Mario Kart 8 physical? And are you too lazy to swap discs?

If "yes" to both then there's your answer to why you'd want digital. I went physical because the disc looks cool though.

Is there any point to laying three different beacons in the same general area or are people just stupid with their ink?
Well, the beacons have limited use and maybe he thinks people will be jumping there a lot? But, a guy on my team put a beacon on our spawn point so....

Someone posted some pics of the Splatfests pages in the Prima guide, and it explains how Splatfests works. It's on Reddit, and I don't think it's allowed to be posted here, so yea, I'll just summarize what it says here.

It says during Splatfests, you can only do Splatfest matches, which are just Turf War battles where the two different teams based on options face each other. Ranked and Regular battles will not be available.

There is a Splatfests EXP system that determines what title you get and how many Super Sea Snails you earn. You get 1 EXP for covering 200-399BP worth of ground and 2 EXP for covering 400+BP worth of ground. You can get 3 EXP for winning the match, so the total you can get per match is 5 EXP.

Chart:

SSS stands for Super Sea Snails

Once the Splatfests are is over, it will show the results based on two criteria, most votes and most wins. If you are on the winning team, then you will get double the amount of Super Sea Snails that you would earn for the Splatfests. So if you happen to get enough EXP for 12 Super Sea Snails, you would get 24 instead for being on the winning team.

Is there any point to laying three different beacons in the same general area or are people just stupid with their ink?

Depends. I can picture people placing them all in a valuable area like the top part of Salt Spray RIg just so even if the enemy takes you out, you can super jump back there. More beacons just mean more chances to come back and more beacons for the other team to destroy.

If they are all in the exact same location, then I would say it kind of defeats the purpose though.

Oh, and here's what Prima says about Ink Resistance Up: Without it, in enemy ink you take 50% damage over three seconds and have 12.5% of your normal movement speed. But with it it's 25% over six seconds and you have 80% of your normal speed.

No idea if that's actually right though! But today I ordered a pair of one-star Ink Resistance Up shoes just in case Nintendo lost their minds and actually made that ability that good.

EDIT: WTF I was trying to make a second post now my original post is gone D:

I'm close to 20 hours in Splatoon and around rank 17. For reference I have around 30 hours in Mario Kart 8 and 40 in Smash Bros and I had those both since launch. This game is pure addiction.

Going on vacation tomorrow so chances are I won't be able to start doing ranked battles with y'all. :(

I've been lucky a few times where the person using the kraken doesn't realize that just running into me without jumping doesn't kill. Dude just nudged me until he turned back and got splattered by someone on my team.

Oh wow, that is a huge difference.

And yea, I just refreshed and boom, it was gone. So 1/3 votes and 2/3 wins. I don't remember the other part.

It seems like the bigger side will always win, unless I'm missing something.

I'm waiting to get into a room. Don't know if people can join while I'm waiting but you can try I guess.

It's percentages, not absolute points. So for the bigger side to win by default it would have to be a lot bigger and not just a bit bigger. EDIT: Like if Cats only have 45% of the votes but 55% of the wins they will win.

EDIT: I can make a spreadsheet of all the equips and their main abilities and brands if that's allowed and you guys want it.

The "Join a Battle" menu music gives me serious Max Headroom vibes and that's bad to think about at 11:00pm in pitch black darkness.

Damn guy always creeped me out. Yikes.

Explain that to me like I'm 5. Percentages of what exactly? So it takes into account the difference between the two teams?

And yes please, that would be great.

My sister is playing right now, join her! My NNID is GuilhermeGWX, as stated in the spreadsheet. I see Mr. Panic chose the Blaster, hopefully he'll feel avenged after all that Smashley-powered annoyance lol.

Suppose 55% of Splashfest participants vote for dogs. 45% vote for cats.
However, 55% of the wins during the Splashfest go to Team Cat. 45% go to Team Dog. Team Cat will win since wins are more important.

Or alternatively: 45 + 55 + 55 > 55 + 45 + 45.
