I was talking about the the scene just explaining the railgun! The rest of that cutscene explaining the rest of Metal Gear Rex was probably 20 minutes though. :p

Oh, right
well another thing that makes no sense, is how the gundams are brightly coloured like Optimus Prime
doesnt exactly seem like the best cammo

Why would you need camo when you are a giant robot? It's pointless unless you can make yourself totally invisible.
Not all sensors work omnidirectionally.
Put some sensors on the front and some sensors on the back. Which is what you would be doing anyway with a head.

Well, at least in the original Gundam, that was the point. It was supposed to be the pride and joy of the Federation, and a morale booster of sorts for all units. Kinda like Captain America. It wasn't meant to be a stealth unit.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - 04

hair5wu6y.gif

It felt like the episode was 40 minutes long but great 40 minutes. The show gets better and better with each new episode. Amazing!

Nice hair animation there, too, for sure.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia 04

This was...unexpected. This episode was actually pretty incredible. Part of it might be me adjusting to its style, but everything about it is clicking now. It probably deserves a much more exhaustive post when I wake up tomorrow morning, but this show is wildly exceeding my expectations. I do not think this show is for everyone, but more people should really be watching it.

I was expecting it to be pretty good (as the manga is), so for me I'd more say that it's now actually meeting my expectations. Which is certainly a good thing.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia 04:

Add my voice to the consensus that the show is getting better with each episode. It's never not going to be junk food anime at its core, but it's hitting all of the right notes for me. Between the abandoned building porn, the fun characters, the light supernatural mysteries, and the SHAFT-y visual quirks and fanservice, this is the kind of thing that I feel okay shutting my brain off to watch.
It definitely has improved every episode, yeah.

Yuuko's mischief continues to generate comedy. Being my ghost girlfriend would probably be the only thing that would allow me to forgive her for
waking me up in the middle of the night and dragging me through the entirety of an abandoned school just to trick me into believing that I was going to die from a curse
. Of course, there always seems to be an underlying motive behind Yuuko's whims, and taking into consideration the things that she expressed to Teiichi in this episode, her actions seem to always be motivated by a fear of loneliness.
Yeah, even a lot of the fanservicey school antics parts in this show have some ties to the serous elements, at some point... the two sides are integrated pretty well.
As for the rest, just keep watching.

I could be seeing too much in her character, but her constant attempts to frighten, arouse, embarrass, and annoy Teiichi almost seem like a method of compensating for decades of invisibility. At last, she's found someone that can see her and interact with her, and so she's going to elicit as many reactions as she possibly can. Understandably, she fears a return to total invisibility, and she expresses this through clingy jealousy and a constant need for Teiichi's attention. In this episode Yuuko also seems to express a fear of
regaining her memories regarding her death
, presumably because this is the reason that her soul is in a state of unrest and her current situation is preferable to moving on. I can only wait and see whether or not this is correct.
I agree, I think your analysis of her motives is probably pretty accurate... she definitely is conflicted, and very bored when he's not around.

I should also note that I found that this episode had the best ratio yet of good to bad SHAFT Junior League shots. I liked all of the following:

However, the final image is unfortunately marred by Dusk Maiden's cheap and ugly use of flat layers for their sky shots, which in this scene resulted in a two-dimensional moon hovering parallel to the surface of the pool. Eeeugh, just look at that reflection. I hope that they fix this for the BDs, because the coloration in this (and other) scenes of the sky are really beautiful otherwise.
I doubt that the anime will ever look quite as great as the manga does, but they have done a good job of improving it and getting the visuals up to a pretty nice level.

Right, it is, what I meant was it's not required to be a pirate. Which is what Cajunator said.
But privateers are a variant of pirate, pretty much.

I wish they'd named things more accurately, but it's not ENTIRELY wrong.

Milky Holmes 12 - End

The first half was fun and exciting; they pulled out the stops for the action animation and storyboarding in the climatic fight. The second half was not as successful;
the comedic reversal of the breast revelation wasn't effective, the pacing dragged, and the reset button ending was terribly lame.
Overall, the series did not quite live up to my expectations from S2 E3, never achieving that same pitch of high-octane absurdity, but it was still silly enough often enough to be worth my time. Twenty stole the show whenever he was on screen; definitely its best asset.
The first season was definitely really good, maybe better than S2 is overall... still, definitely watch S2, there's a lot more good stuff and humor!

As for the reset button stuff, yeah, it's annoying. Expect that to continue in S2 too, unfortunately. I know it was going to happen, but I have to think it could have been handled a bit better than it was...

Still, Milky Holmes is a very fun series indeed.

Just returned from a small gathering between friends.

All of them are casual anime watches at best, but thankfully they're all very open and will happily check out anything I recommend.

Towards the end of the night we decided to watch something, so I took advantage of this situation and recommended we all watch Garzey's Wing. Luckily none of them had heard of it.

During the next 90mins the room was filled with tears of laughter, agony and shear disbelief. Drink was also spat out due to shear shock and surprise.

Finally, the ending sequence provided minutes worth of pure ecstasy and laughter, along with anger directed at me.

After it had finished one of my friends then messaged the shows title to 5 other people and asked them to also check it out.

Very successful evening.

~Wings of my Heart~
Showing people greatness? A truly heroic endeavor indeed!

Why does Upotte!! have an elf chick? I am so confused.
Why is anything in Upotte as it is? Nothing else makes sense, so why not an elf too...

Mmm, this almost tempts me to give the show a another chance.
And when did you drop it? Far too soon, I'm sure.

Carnival Phantasm OP:

I.... I was not prepared for this amount of AWESOME in 1:30!! o_O Now to watch the rest of the episode...
It's definitely a pretty good OP, yeah.

I'll stop with the image spam and just post impressions for now. (Takes too much time)

Carnival Phantasm 03

Arcueid is just so adorable in the school uniform! XD And Saber trying to curl up next to Shirou was all sorts of adorable! XD The Afterschool Alleyway Alliance bit is kind of funny, but is wearing thin.

Carnival Phantasm 04

Okay this skit with Rin, Archer and the BluRay Recorder was hilarious! XD Also, Shiki and Shirou trying to figure out how to date all of their girls at the same time was pretty damn funny! XD But yeah, the AAA skit is getting old.

Carnival Phantasm 05

Berserker's first errand... oh man! XD Fucking awesome how he defeated everyone just trying to buy some batteries! XD While the AAA skit is old, the PhantasMoon one works a little better if only due to the bit where they always throw in a "Ren, what is that ______ for?" that's always different.

Carnival Phantasm 06

This episode's a miss for me. I just don't think there's a way to make Shinji's actions toward Sakura amusing even in a parody show, so it just didn't work for me. Rider had a couple of funny moments trying to prevent it but I just don't find it funny tbh. :/
Carnival Phantasm definitely can be a pretty hilarious show. I only have sketchy knowledge of Tsukihime, but it doesn't even matter... the series is outstanding even so. Just great stuff, every episode.

Maya Academy 1-END

Ugh. First half was glorious, then it all went to shit around ep8.

Even with all the crazy stuff that happened, this was still the most ridiculous bit of the show.

http://s7.postimage.org/u0pg9s4u3/1092836.jpg
Ep. 8? No, that show fell apart long before that, sadly...

How friggin deep is their reference pool?
What's wrong with automatics? Nothing, I say!

Also, F-Zero doesn't even have manual gear options. :)

Also, constant reminder
it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy it's a guy
Mahiro's response to Hastur-kun's confession was pretty clever, really... of course it was even sillier that it worked, but still, he came up with a better idea than Nyaruko and her usual (and clearly failed) physical violence strategy towards their same-sex would-be lover.

Tripod designs would be good for tall sentry type unit designs, like seen in War of the Worlds. But it would be ill-suited for more compact units which have larger body mass, due to balance issues.

Crab designs work well for smaller scale tank like designs which are meant for heavy artillery or frontal assault, but would have lower mobility and a larger mass. It is heavier and would be slower to move because of the engineering behind moving 4 legs instead of 2. It is not practical for larger-scale designs because of cost.
What about a mech that rolls around on a ball? Like
except covered in guns.

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky

That prison was a deathtrap even before Ricky arrived. Amazing movie and I'm glad Craig Kilborn didn't steer me wrong all those years back.

Yu Yu Hakusho 9

Sensing martial arts rather than spirit detective work. Not sure I like where this is headed! That said, I adore how strong Yusuke's support cast is, especially Kuwabara and Botan. What did stand out to me was the variety of characters around Genkai's place. Even the less detailed folk in the crowd retained individual personality. As always, the bluray transfer is something else. Show still looks incredible and I wish more shows were given this sort of treatment.

Gundam 0080 1

Fantastic opening scene followed by some middling (yet character building) student hijinx. Ball was rolling by the end and I'm looking forward to the next ep after that ending.

Gundam 0080 2

Al is almost too naive and earnest. Strike that, he is.

MD Geist (Original Cut)

Pretty sure I saw this back in the day but decided to revisit it. Supposedy the Director's Cut cleared up various deficiencies that were present in the original cut but I'm torn as the the newer version changed the soundtrack and various sound effects which gave some scenes a weird sterility or were decisions that seemmed just outright strange as the Director's Cut using the orignal's credit music over the last fight scene. There were some added scenes but nothing really substantial or that added to the overall product as far as I cold tell. No glaring animation errors (aside from the armor gif I posted already or Crutes' hovering corpse) that stood out to me seem to have been fixed. Even the Director's Cut retains some questionable decisions.

The story is the same delightful nonsense and the impetus of the acutal show remains "Let's put Geist in a cool fight." Added ending scene to help frame the story better strikes me as needless as the original worked much better ending as it did with the reactivation of Death Force. There was little need to show the actual process or Geist smiling like an idiot with a sword. As much I do enjoy this, I think the adage about polishing a turd applies here.

Sailor Moon S 108

It occurs to me the S in Sailor Moon S obviously stands for studying.
Seriously though, I like how the school antics are in the background and just given a cursory nod with the reoccuring study groups.
:lol @ the engrish. So much engrish and a drunk Usagi to boot.

Sailor Moon S 109

Poor Minako. Fortunate for not being targeted for her heart but insecure enough to question why not.
Minako's so powerful she can interrupt a Haruka/Michiru psotcard scene. I'm in awe at both that and
her ability to reclaim her own pure heart.
I didn't think this was going to be as strong as Sato's last few eps but thankfully it delivered.

Sailor Moon S 110

Aw yeah, Ikuhara ep and a revised OP! I'm such a sucker for OPs that change subtly to reflect the state of the show. Again one of his episodes features a great bit of speed and force in the animation. It's a shame it isn't more prevalent in the series. Damn though, his episodes are some of the best and evoke such emotion especially with dat cliffhanger. Hito wasn't kidding about the Utena alarms in this either.

Lupin III A Woman Named Fujiko Mine 6

I was actually bored by this episode until the Oscar reveal. it just adds to the sense that Fujiko herself is pretty bland but enhances any character interacts with. Well outside of the flashback stuff which I find really compelling.

G Gundam 37

Rain all jealous and shit. That won't do. Sai Saici's slow journey from caricature to character has been pretty awesome too. Outstanding fight between Domon and Sai Saici to finish the ep.

Sai Saici evidently emanating GN particles.

AKB0048 2

Talk about a tale of two halves. This turned so awesome in the second half. Didn't expect that at all even with reading about the better second half.

Re: Gundam blinding himself reaction image: What is the strategic advantage for mechs having a head? I can see why they would need legs and arms to more carefully imitate human movement, but adding a head is nothing but telling your opponent where to strike. Hell, most mechs even have their cockpits on their chests. It just doesn't make any sense.

Uh, how else would it resemble a samurai?

A fine ending. Not exactly what I expected but it made sense and it barely avoided being painfully cheesy. It was nice and it was a fitting end to this show.

There was an interesting concept here somewhere and with a unique backstory and setting I'm still somewhat disappointed by the show. But just a bit. This wasn't a bad show by any means. It had a specific purpose in mind and it set out to do exactly what it intended. And honestly I believe it achieved that purpose. The show had a much smaller and reserved scale than what I was expecting and maybe that clouded my judgement a bit.

For what it was, this was an enjoyable show. Each character, while confined to their own individual (near stereotypical) character trait, had an affect on the story and on the main character, Kanata. Some of their back-stories I wish were more fleshed out and I wished the same for a lot of the back-story regarding the setting. Though, as I mentioned this doesn't necessarily fit what the show was going for. Not to say each main character didn't have their share of development, but I feel like the only characters that seemed profoundly changed through out the show were Rio and Noel. The other characters had a semblance of change since when Kanata was introduced but I think there was plenty more to be explored here. Things such as
Filicia's semi-PTSD
or
Noel's involvement with war engineering
were some things that I kinda wanted to see more of. Or maybe I just wanted something darker out of these concepts? I dunno.

I sort of feel that this would've served a little better as a standalone OVA or even a short OVA series. There were quite a few episodes and scenarios that really did nothing for the overall plot and honestly I didn't feel much tension except for the last few episodes. I felt like there was a lot of potential in the setting and back-story but that would honestly be more fitting as some sort of side-series or something. The show managed to touch on some pretty interesting themes regarding war, the after-affects of war, humanity, and civilization but I honestly just didn't feel like a lot of them were delved into as much as they could've been. They seemed to take a backseat to other mini-plots in several episodes.

On the aesthetic side, the show was gorgeous. The European-esque scenery within the post-apocalyptic backdrop was definitely really nice and detailed. The beautiful landscapes, the rolling clouds, the variety of weather changes over the course of the show were great. The character designs themselves were fine too. I didn't really have much of a problem with them honestly. The music was also very very fitting and complemented the setting perfectly.

So I dunno. Overall, yeah I liked it. I commend the show for attempting something a bit different and for taking an interesting stance on this type of concept. I just don't think it was for me. I liked it but it's not my favorite anime by any means. Many of my 'complaints' pretty much derive from my own personal tastes when it comes down to it.

I don't think it was quite "K-On in the military" (go ask someone who watched more than three episodes of that) and while I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, it was still a very thoughtful and slightly poignant show.

Yeah it definitely is not K-On at war. That is such a ridiculous label to give it.
Glad you liked it though.

You know, because Community brought it up once again, I thought it was kind of funny that SnW had their own "paintball" episode. :p
That and the phone one were particularly pointless/semi-service episodes. (The paintball one particularly). Although, to be fair, the phone plays a somewhat pivotal role in the series in a fairly subtle manner.

And really, if you want to create a fantasy world, just go to Europe, find some small town that remains relatively untouched by modernization and just copy the hell out of it. It immediately gives you a world that looks like human beings have lived there for centuries but allows you to have some sense of unfamiliarity.

I would say that the only one who really remains unchanged is Kanata, but that's because her forceful optimism (aka Anne-expy) is the catalyst that changes the other characters. Even tsundere girl goes through her own arc after all. And you can think of it this way - all of the characters, even the nun/miko are
orphans
. Kanata is the only one who is not, and she's the one that essentially helps them form a new
family on their own terms
.

As for being dark, I still think that the 13th episode implies that
the Earth is dead. I just think it takes the approach that YKK took and offers a peaceful alternative to facing extinction - as opposed to the ending that almost happened in episode 12
.

It's really too bad that people associate this show with moe. I mean, I know I'm joking when I say that this is the secret fourth season of Aria, but there's a lot here to digest if you're willing to look for it. Certainly it's why 4chan went insane and filled out a wikia full of speculation and references when the show aired.
(The craziest theory being that SnW might have been a sequel to the alternate universe posited in Occult Academy since they were both Anime no Chikara shows. Haha.)

I'd only meant to watch one episode, but ended up going through several. Liked 16 & 17 more than 14 & 15.

Laughed a few times during episode 17 in particular. Great stuff, 6/6 would watch again. Time to hit up episodes one & ten at last before moving on to 18.

Little by little the story is moving forward and episode 8 especially has been pretty good, though the preview for episode 9 totally ruins the mood, given the
death of Kazu
, plus makes me question why make a beach episode right after.

Code Geass R2, stuff, perhaps belated reply but whatever.
It was just too ambiguous to be the best and left things too open for a 50 episode series. Consider its recent counterpart that was condensed though at least brisker and more enriching, they managed to give that a solid conclusion which worked well. Anyway on Code Geass...I do not think that he died. CC looked too happy to have him as dead, and I think Suzaku, though emotionally torn at the scene and the fact that he had to stab his best friend, knew that Lelouch would live in the end, I dont think he could have brought himself to stab a truly vital part.
I prefer to entertain the notion that Lelouch ended up acquiring C.C. or Charle's Code and thus turning into an immortal himself living a peaceful eternity/time until C.C. finally died with her incognito. That theory kind of makes sense since that way C.C. also gets closure and her own wishes granted and ultimately the Zero Requiem is still successful, and Lelouch is still sacrificing a fair deal of things like what happens when you are meant to be dead and can never appear in public again. Another thing it explains is how nunuly was able to see Lelouch's memories when she touched him at the end of the episode, something which was thought to be a common trait that people with Code had.

Congrats. Glad you liked the show, I bet you're going to miss it when all things are said and done. Jumping on late perhaps robbed you off a few things like the hype episode to episode and the early 6 months+ of fan theories about the ending being how open-ended it really is and how the style of the show allows for a ton of fan interpretations and fanfiction about it. Reading your impressions throughout this adventure reminded me of all that, pretty amazing all that considered.
Edit: What did you think about the OST for both series?
