Where did she acquire the knife from? Why am I nitpicking about it?

There's no explanation, but aren't they on their way home from school at that point? Could she not have had one in her bag? It's not implausible; although we don't know a lot about Ritsuko at this stage there's nothing to say she's not a practical girl.

I really don't see what is so unusual about someone having a pen knife. There could be a ton of reasons, the most obvious one being that you would have one handy if you attend any sort of art class.

So I was eating lunch this afternoon and for no apparent reason this trivia useless scene from Kids on the Slope ep 2 popped into my mind and makes me wonder about it.

When I think ladies with knives. The first one I think of is the fat lady from Tenjou Tenge ;)

Illegal in the UK. Pens and knives must be kept separated at all times.

I dont either. I carry a small knife on my keychain and use it in various ways.

This being Australia, I have a large machete duct-taped to my back at all times.

My roommate carries a machete in her car. when cops stop her sometimes and she shows it to them she just says "a girl can never be too careful". This seems to work alright.

There's no need to say since GAF have say it so many times, damn if you ever gonna see such good high budget animation on TV, it's Kyoani. The distinctive music is definitely Kouhei Tanaka which is pleasant to listen to.

Who would have thought your sweet pleasant talking Chitanda is actually voice by K-on! Ritsu?

What was up with that!? As much as I'm starting to gain an inkling of tolerance to cg done bad, the whole everyone was in chibi mode plus it being badly done cg nearly burned my god damn retinas.

I'll say it again, "Terrible."

I liked the part where the guns took a bath and rubbed each other. I felt like I was lured in and tricked into learning about gun history for the remaining 20 minutes.

This indeed was the case.

Infinite Stratos 1-12 (FINAL) + OVA

Let me preface this by saying I’m not a fan of the mecha genre. That being said, I have no idea why I wanted to watch Infinite Stratos in the first place. I suppose it was because I saw some side banners on The Anime Network’s website and I found the character designs to be appealing. So I take a spin with the first two episodes (since non-registered users of the The Anime Network’s site were able to stream them). My initial reactions are nonexistent. I didn’t hate nor did I want to see more. I really liked the character designs especially the designs on of the academy’s uniforms. I liked the general look of it all but the premise wasn’t drawing me in. Fast forward about a month or so later, the dub comes out and I decide to give it a spin once more. After diving into a few more episodes I figure out very quickly that Infinite Stratos is no mecha show, it’s a harem. I knew it was trying to be some type of mecha-harem when I watched the first two episodes but after those episodes I quickly found out that the show’s strengths lie in its harem tendencies.

infinite-stratos-01-large-16.jpg

(Not the best screenshot but seriously, I really like those uniforms.)

When it tries to tackle any story beyond, “A dude in a school full of chicks,” then the show takes nose dive. You’ve got all these silly story points like Ichika’s discovery of an IS.
Ichika walks into a room that clearly says, “No authorized personnel.” He goes on to even touch the IS when he was supposed to be talking exams.
What? Whhaaaat? I know this guy is supposed to be dense as shit but really? They should have just kept Ichika’s discovery of his IS compatibility a mystery. The backstories in this show really try their best to break your suspension of disbelief. Such as
Ichika getting kidnapped but his sister abandoning her spot at a tournament to save him?
I’ve heard of some crazy backstories but isn’t this one just stretching it a bit? Especially since there’s no follow-up to it. Wouldn’t that be a traumatizing experience for him? Why is there no mention of it later in his drive to become stronger?

I can put aside all the harem specific contrivances. It’s hard but doable. The stupidity of putting Ichika and Houki in the same room, especially when it
seemed Cecilia was given a room all to herself,
I can ignore. When you have kids dealing with these dangerous machines, that’s when Infinite Stratos tests my patience. Everything seems lax at this school. Here we have the Chinese, British and German representatives in Episode 7
about to murder each other and there are no teachers in sight to break-up this fight.
Speaking of which, where are the authorities on this show? Shouldn’t this school be under some of the tightest security imaginable due to the firepower these teens wield?

qPlqQ.jpg

(It was obvious from the get-go that Charles was a girl. It was cute though trying to see my waifu (for this show) trying to BS her way to acquire Ichika's secrets.
)

The cast, as stupid as they become in the suits, are the reason why I stuck around with this show. The second half (specifically after episode 8) is better than first because of the girls, particularly Laura and Charles. They were much better than Houki, Cecilia and Lingyin. Maybe it’s because I find France and Germany duking it out more entertaining. In fact, if this were any other haremshit I would probably be bored by now but I think the international cast was what piqued my interest. It becomes a better show when it stops trying to be mecha and just goes full throttle on harem antics. For that reason, I found the OVA to be one of the better episodes. The OVA is hardcore-harem and one of the few OVAs I've seen that actually surpass the show itself in overall quality.

But when it stops being a pure harem, Infinite Stratos tries really hard to get me to hate it. Illogical nonsense everywhere and just as I thought they were going to tone it down, they turn it up to 11 in episode 10 with the
emergence of an IS that only the students can defeat? Or better yet, it’s an IS that the girls have to lure to Ichika because conveniently enough, it can only be defeated with his single strike ability. What? Whaaaaaaatt? What bothered me about this was that this episode was on course to being a lighthearted continuation of the beach episodes. Episode 10 just goes from full-harem to, “We’ve got a rogue IS (built and ordered to do so by Shinonono’s sister) that you all have to destroy.”
Just a switch from funny to serious business within seconds. I still very clearly remembered that
this was what the opening minutes of the first episode referenced but it still didn’t prevent the sudden change of events from feeling contrived.
Again, I’m not a watcher of mecha but it doesn’t take an expert to know that this show isn’t doing mecha very well. It’s hard to do anything right when you’re not even doing logic right in the first place.

abNEi.png

(This is the OVA. It is superior to the broadcasted show, due in part to how cute/awesome/sexy Charles' outfit was.)
This show is a mixed bag for me that I just can’t write off. On the one hand, Infinite Stratos is not even remotely close to being average in intelligence. On the other hand, me being the sucker for mindless harems, my interest was piqued by the IS academy and I loved watching the international cast of girls. Honestly, I think these girls might take the spot for my favorite harem group. I really wouldn’t mind a second season of Infinite Stratos that threw aside all the mecha and just became a mindless harem of national representatives dissing each other’s cultures in a quest to get to acquire the love of the main character. Even better, just remove the dude and make this about the women only. So basically if IS was in my control, I’d just make it a slice of life show about girls in a mecha academy. Eh, whatever, this show was almost like Haganai for me, a guilty pleasure that I can just turn my brain off to. But then it pulled out some mechanical suits and told me to give a crap about the characters finding “strength.” Yeah, just give me the harem episodes, more of the girls and then this show will have the potential to reach Haganai levels. Infinite Stratos gets a 2 out of 5.

And then… my rankings:
1. Charles (waifu-tier)
1. Ms. Yamada
3. Laura
4. Houki
5. Cecilia
6. Lingyin

Do people actually play VN's completely or do they fast forward through the 95% of it that's boring shit?

If this statement is aimed at the Fate/Stay Night visual novel, I object. Of course if you're doing a second playthrough then it's fine to use the "skip already read" option, but unless you're just playing it for the porn I don't see why you'd skip text (and if you are playing it for the porn, just go and download the CG set or something, it's more efficient).

Well that saves me 39.99, the ads made it seem like it was pretty cool as well as the blu ray box art, but thats just not worth it. Thanks for that write up.

Hello folks. Are you hap-py?

I've started to watch Ashita no Joe quite recently, and I'm simply enthralled by the experience it's been providing me. Even the filler feels fine when you Osamu Dezaki directing! So I'll start talking about that, and I'll eventually got to reviewing the ill-fated Hols: Prince of the Sun as well.

Welcome back, Dragoon.

I did not mean for my statement to end with a your ban, M'Srry. :(

I completely forgot about Upotte!! How did the 3rd ep compare to the rather "amazing" 1st ep?

Bathing fanservice beginning with British gun history towards a good chunk of the latter half. And some stuff in between.

Fans of episode 1 shall not be pleased.

True, on the one hand I'm happy Shirou didn't get Saber technically. He kinda did though as he got her heart. :/ Well, despite not liking Shirou I like Saber and I wanted her to get a super happy ending which didn't happen. Ah well. ^^;

Technically, her super happy ending is (F/SN Visual Novel Spoiler)
Last Episode. This is an extra ending for the VN that first came about in the Realta Nua PS2 version. Prior, every route got at least two endings except for the Fate Route. In Realta Nua, Last Episode becomes unlocked after completing all the other endings. It begins as a reprise of the Fate Route, going throught what had happened (albeit more quickly than the actual route) before going into the 'after'. It is a bit vague in certain parts, but it is Saber's best ending. And you really have no idea how much Shirou has her heart.

Mutta is such a great protagonist for this series. His internal monologue is playful, self-deprecating, yet determined in that underdog way that most people are practically conditioned to root for.

I want to see him succeed.

Very nicely written. I pretty much agree with all of it; the major things the show has going for it are good art design and Char. :D

Interesting info, thanks! Is there a PC version with this extra ending? And is it translated?

There's a patch for the PC that adds most of the stuff from the PS2 version. IIRC the translation for Last Episode is crap though, I think it's machine translated.

Carnival Phantasm beats the fucking SHIT out of anything else typemoon.
But all the gags are dependent on knowing and liking a ton of Typemoon stuff to begin with.

Now there's a girl with short hair which I considered hot,it would be Kirie plus voiced by Eri Kitamura? Fuck yeah!

So this spring season is actually a monster girl season. We got Ghost girl, Zombie girl, Lovecraftian monster girls, Necromancer girl and Vampire Ninja girl.

From what I have heard, an 'official' PC version of Realta Nua will be released sometime in the future. Realta Nua was released for the PS2 around 2006 and is the 'all ages' version of F/SN. Pretty much the questionable scenes have been replaced (and you know what I'm talking about).

The F/SN VN itself has been fan translated. There are also versions that have the Realta Nua patch added, with the voices (Realta Nua was voiced by the same people who voiced the anime) and the added Last Episode ending.

I believe they are splitting Realta Nua PC into three parts and releasing each route by itself, but that's only useful if you can read Japanese. Otherwise use the mirrormoon voice patch and the other Realta Nua patch on the original game.

Also, I didn't think the transformations could get any more girly but I was so, so wrong:
http://i.imgur.com/5UI8yl.jpg

What girly accessories could they sell to young girls give the Precures next? Seems like they've run the gauntlet... unless... unless they all get wands?!

Which Precures have you watched? You'd be surprised at the amount of plastic shit they can add over the course of a series.

They really should have used the tiaras as weapons to keep up the Sailor Moon parallels. As it is, we don't even get a cool attack animation, just an ad followed by rainbow spam.

Yes, it's being directed by Shin Oonuma, who did the two ef series, Natsu no Arashi, and Pani Poni Dash at Shaft.

!!!!!

My precious Natsu no Arashi is reborn, down to the ghost moe! Sorry guys, but I'm going to be biased for the rest of the series.

I also noticed the huge uptick in QUALITY faces. The animation budget certainly didn't go toward that lame Rainbow Healing attack, so I have no idea what happened.
