The Light of El Cantare
Just popping In to say while I loved Heartcatch I really hated the middle lull episodes. I will always point to Fresh as a great Precure,Splash Star as well. Smile Is turning out to be really good though :).

So our first lurker to come out of the woodwork after the move to Community is a brocure. This is a sign of excellent things to come.

Where do I even begin with what's so right about this design?

These are the most detailed prerequisites I've ever heard for waifu/leftoverpizza physical contact.

I feel it's important to properly state those conditions to assuage any misunderstandings about what I find attractive vs. who I'd actually make a move on. Thinking a fully-formed damn-near of age teenager is attractive does not make one a pedo; actually trying to do something to them does.

Space Bros 1

Ok I really like this a lot.

I enjoy coming-of-age stories and slice of life, and combining it with realistic space travel is just the icing on the cake.

Starting out when the two brothers were young,
they were exploring the back woods, recording sounds of the wildlife and area. The younger brother spots a UFO flying overhead and is fascinated as it heads towards the moon. They both vow to become astronauts and fly to the moon together.
Cut to the present, and
The younger boy has achieved his dream and is an astronaut. The older guy has become an automotive designer, who just got fired for Zidaning his superior after he made fun of his younger brother. A noble way to get fired.
After discovering that
he has been blacklisted across the entire industry, the older brother searches for any jobs, but is unhappy with all of them. Then he gets an email from his brother rmeinding him of that day back when they made the promise. This renews his spirit of adventure and he finds a suprise package waiting for him at their parents home...He opens it to find an acceptance letter to an astronaut application program

This is so far paced well enough to hold my interest and the music is excellent. Plus there is a space dog. This is gonna be rad. Looking forward to more.

Wow. That was rather insane.

Blow up the moon.
Pull moon debris towards earth.
Blow up debris by singing.

Fake out Hibiki death scene.

It was more of a tongue-in-cheek comment, but I see your meaning.

I get ya. It's just that being a member of AnimeGAF can easily get one labeled a pedo by association, which is admittedly still dumb 'cause as far as I know no one here is a pedo but whatever. :p

Saint Seiya Oh Meh Ga 1

This art style is really throwing me off. Such a far cry from the original and Lost Canvas.

Kouga is a whiny, spoiled douche that complains too much. He hasn't gone through even 1% of the bullshit the old bronze and gold saints had to go through. Saying he wishes Seiya hadn't saved him is ridiculous.

Shaina sounds so old now, but her hair is as green as ever. It also seemed like she's either been super gimped or Kouga just has a ridiculous cosmos capacity already. I mean she's supposed to be a silver saint, yet she
can't deal with Mars even though a bronze saint can.

On the plus side, the fights seem to carry more weight than the original and Hades chapters. Hopefully it gets even better down the line with good choreography and strategies, something completely absent from the original series.

So based on this first episode, I would rank the franchise something like this: Lost Canvas>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Omega>>>Hades OVAs>Original. I would be perfectly content if this was cancelled and we got more Lost Canvas, but for now I'll stick with it and see if it gets good.

I would pretty much label it as that.
However, in a way it IS a coming of age story, in which the actual age has little to do with it.
Coming of age implies growing up. The impression I get from Space Bros is that it is about rediscovering your inner innocence.

Well, this still doesn't mean coming of age necessarily has much to do with age. If anything the genre convention has more to do with personal growth and maturity than anything.

I guess maybe it could be described better that way. not really concerned with that. It's how I personally thought of it. But If there's some better term to use I'm not above using it.

Basically, this.
Something was holding the older brother back from achieving his dream. We haven't seen enough of the show to say what that is, or even if it will be explored, but him coming to this new realization does seem to suggest maturing in some way from what he was before. Its just way too soon to really say what kind of show this will end up being yet.

I consider the search for maturity and the exploration of the unknown world to be defining characteristics of a coming of age story. Age is always important in that equation, and the elements of earning independence for first time and coming to terms with sexuality are the kinds of things age factors into. If we were to start using some sort of metric, I would consider Richard Wright's The Long Dream to wear the coming of age label strongly.

Space Bros. also has yet to fall into any sort of "slice of life" style of storytelling. We aren't getting the day to day of the lead role, it's a story honed in on a specific set of events so far.

Personal growth is a very broad term. Mutta in Space Bros. has reached a physical and emotional maturity and has a full understanding of the world around him. As a person he is fully developed, there are just pieces of his past he's drifted away from that he needs to rediscover. The first episode was almost like the inverse of a coming of age story. We have a grown man needing to reconnect with the clearer wants of his younger self.
