There's no particular reason they can't do yet another release a few years later, at a discounted, extract-the-final-pennies price. Maybe put all the episodes on a single DVD, just to hammer home that it's for dirty 99%ers.

Anyway, speaking of OreImo, I see that the Japanese BDs are sold out at several stores, and Amazon Japan is down to the last of its stock, so I need to jump on finishing that show in the next couple days and make up my mind before the BD version becomes harder to get hold of. I liked what I saw of it, but I put it on hold after episode four or so and just never got back to it.

Just buy now so you don't regret later.
Thats pretty much how this stuff works. I might be a bit crazy hoarding anime stuff that I havent yet watched, but it also means when I want to finally watch it, its there on the shelves. If you want something really badly, don;t wait, just buy it as soon as possible.

Accel World 1

This is a show with absolutely no potential to be anything other than it is. Stuff will happen in the real world according to the blueprint of this episode and the OP - we have identified who will take part in Brain Burst, what the endgame relationship of the series is, and all other necessary plot elements. Then there will be fight scenes. They may be competently animated (the show doesn't look like shit, at least).

Haruyuki being a fat SD character is almost entirely meaningless. In some ways it actually cheapens his already boilerplate character - while self-esteem issues over bullying etc. are nothing new to anime leads, it's almost as if the audience is supposed to find it vaguely comical. He can't sit properly on chairs! He identifies himself as a virtual pig that other people can carry around! Yet he can still run away from awkward situations in exactly the same manner that a normal dweeb male lead can. The only thing that sets him apart from other male leads of his ilk is cosmetic.

With that said, it's a pretty inoffensive My First Anime, and if it were twenty years ago this would be airing on TV Tokyo in a teatime slot and would eventually end up on Toonami or whatever. And there's some nice music in the early part of the episode.

Well, that's the thing, I'm not sure I want it yet, haha.
I've blind-bought shows at Japanese prices a couple of times under various circumstances, but I try to avoid it.
Wish I had the weekend off work.
I suppose getting my work done instead of hanging out on GAF might help...

So considering the fact that Crunchyroll doesn't announce simulcasts on the weekend and that they've announced everything before its first air date so far, does that mean the last two shows are probably Jormungand and E7 Ao? Not that Hyouka doesn't still have a chance, but considering how late into the season it's starting...

But is comical and kind of cool and when he was a pig in that virtual game. I liked it.

Medaka Box 1

Honestly, it might be a combination of watching it directly after bailing on Sengoku and the anti-hype it's been receiving but it didn't strike me as completely terrible. Sure, everything looks garishly colorful, the characters all seem like cardboard cut-outs reciting their lines and I can see Medaka getting on my nerves fast but at least it didn't cause me any major physical pain and I'm also sort of interested in this genre switch everyone keeps bringing up. I'll give it at least a couple more episodes for cosmicbro.

I don't want to get everyone's hopes up regarding when the genre shift starts. In the manga, it doesn't happen until chapter 16 (though the things that set it into motion start at 14), so depending on your definition of "a few" episodes, it might be more than tolerable. I saw in the preview they will be covering 2 chapters next episode, so if they remain at a 2:1 ratio, it would be 7 or 8.

There could also be a chance they skip around to get to the shift quicker like in the Katekyo Hitman Reborn anime, but that happened in chapter 80ish and the anime did it in 20, so they probably won't here since the shift is relatively early.

The Light of El Cantare
I may come to eat these words, but right now it feels like Medaka Box can't possibly get any worse than it is so I'm fully looking forward to the genre shift. Bring the power levels.

I mean... goddamn it's beautiful, and the voice acting is good, and the action sequences are cool... but the pacing is just so amazingly slow.

Also, following a male protagonist in a Ghibli movie feels weird.

Remember how [insert Jump or Jump-equivalent franchise] started as [insert genre here] and ended up as a fighting tournament?

Death Note and a few other (as in like 50) didn't end up that way.

In fact, the only genre-shifted to battle series I can think of are Negima, Reborn, Rosario to Vampire, and Medaka Box.

E7 Ao is a TBS show, though. I may be seeing a pattern that's not there, but only three TBS shows made it to CR in the past 12 months. They seem to wind up more commonly on TAN or Funimation/NicoNico.com, e.g. Sankarea this season already.

How do you shift from drawing a manga into a physical fight?

Fighting with drawings maybe? Think Paru from Negima where she can materialize anything in the air by drawing it. It would be like that. All manga tournaments would basically be a free-for-all with the last drawing standing winning or something.

Frankly I think Akamatsu should stick to battle manga. He's quite good at it, and fanservice manga is too crowded as is.

Yeah, I hope his next work is like that too. Maybe a bit more tactic-intensive as well. I forget if he's announced anything yet, but hopefully whatever he does next starts up relatively soon.
