I don't know. Opinions are going to be questioned but I considered that to be a positive trait. I enjoy how this thread has such a breadth of tastes too. It's introduced me to some great stuff.

Like I said, it's more the venomous responses like a certain person's gifs that imply "are you fuckin kidding" or other posts like that. A lot of people are joking around, but a noob to the thread wouldn't catch that.

I came in here with my minuscule knowledge of anime asking a few questions, and the responses I got were very helpful. I don't see how it is a trouble to post.

There are really only a few threads where the whole "no newbies" mentality is present. Most of GAF I find is very open and helpful, including this thread.
Most of the people in this thread genuinely enjoy sharing their experiences wih anime, myself included. Sure, it's not always a matter of sharing the most exemplary shows, but if there is joy to be spread we're all about spreading it.

On the other hand, we've also seen a ton, so the ninth halfassed retread of a given show doesn't impress us much.

I really think people have become spoiled by the cheapness of anime sets these days. no wonder the companies are going bankrupt. Anime is a lot of fun but its a hobby,, and its going to cost you a lot of money to enjoy it fully. That's just a fact of life.

Most people fully enjoy their hobby while not purchasing that many shows, if any, unfortunately.

Unless it's School Days.

I still dont pay attention to staff lists.
Except when Shinbo is involved, or when...Satoshi Kon was involved ;_;

I only pay attention when I'm worried about the quality of a show like AO. It's like watching a trainwreck coming straight for me but I just can't get out of the way.

No, it really is. It's amusing to see how closely tied together the industry is!

Sure but remembering the assistant animation director isn't my definition of a good time.

The incestuous family tree of studios or director, I'll look out for.

I'm not sure if your post was sarcastic was not. It's hard to tell sometimes

I'm not being sarcastic! I'm serious. You should at least try it.

Ah okay. That confused me 'cause it seemed like it happened right then and there.
There were a couple of edits in the episode where it wasn't clear if time has passed/how much time had passed. I hope that's not a warning sign for future episodes because an inability to properly convey the passage of time could be quite an issue.

Because its accurate :)

Also, your avatar really gives me heart spasms.
It hurts so good.

haha... was thinking about switching over to a Acchi Kocchi avatar

just stick to learning directors, screen/scriptwriters and animation directors. the rest dont matter too much.

I only pay attention to director names, as the rest aren't important. VAs I keep track of because spotting a voice is a fun side hobby.

I mean... goddamn it's beautiful, and the voice acting is good, and the action sequences are cool... but the pacing is just so amazingly slow.

Also, following a male protagonist in a Ghibli movie feels weird.

Princess Mononoke?

As I said, I'm fine with knowing about studios and directors. I don't see the merit of going as far as memorizing someone like (borrowing from Jexhius' post) Rie MATSUBARA who's apparently in charge of editing in many SHAFT shows.

easily up there with the school days family tree

Let's not go that far.

Editing is important. Just ask Tomino. Better yet, ask anyone else.

This is how you do a comedy, yes sir. Sharp pacing and editing, constantly moving from one gag to another, fun characters with great chemistry: it's really appealing. Shaft-isms work so well when they're executed with the confidence and comparatively lavish animation of this episode. (As a side note, one quirk which I haven't noticed in other Shaft shows but which showed up several times here is a camera view from underneath a character's feet, as if it were seeing through a transparent floor.) Arashiyama charms by her straightforwardness, Tatsuno provides a more crafty foil, and the unorthodox nature of the maid cafe they work in provides a setting ripe with humorous contrasts between expectations and reality. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this.

I'll let you in a secret: we don't memorize the names of everyone who ever worked on a show; Anime News Network has a handy database that allows us to look people up if we want to find out who directed that really cool episode or what the director of a show we're thinking about watching has done previously.

The answer is very simple. It looks like this:

www.animenewsnetwork.com

Just look up staff lists and see what else it links to. No need to memorize anything!

Says the guy who thinks writers don't matter.
They kinda don't in anime, though, hyperbolic posts aside. It seems to be an industry thing.

You don't think editing is important? =\

It's also worthwhile to memorize key animators too.

Indeed. I remember directors like Akiyuki Shinbo, screen/scriptwriters like Okada Mari and sometimes people like Takeshi Koike. I recognize the contribution of others since it's a team effort but I'm not going to memorise who they are.

Again, I recognize the contribution of others since it's a team effort but I'm not going to memorise who they are. I'll try harder.

All right, I guess with the help of ANN I'll reference some of the other staff sometimes as well.

But...IT HAS PANTY SHOTS AND CANT POSSIBLY BE GOOD.
