that's pretty much an issue with every longtime shounen series that isn't gintama

Gintama does that too and a lot of shounen actually doesn't. But other shounen usually has even worse pacing outside of Fairy Tail. 10-15 minutes of fast-paced action>20 minutes of slow paced filler integrated into the canon.

If you consider those three episodes I just watched and loved to death to be not that great then the rest of this series is gonna blow my fucking mind.

People have issue with the first 13 or so episodes as the pacing is relatively slow and some of the characters people come to hate. The first three are very solid. There's really only one what I would deem bad and that's the Moondoggie episode. Episode 9 in particular is amazing.

Ah you thought episode 9 was amazing as well.
my mind was blown when it was revealed that Eureka was a cold blooded killer and the kids came from people she had killed. and Renton's interaction with Eureka with that episode was also amazing

Moondooggie was redeemed in the episode when
he has sex with Gidget

Welcome to Toei, where they spoil shit out of you before the episode starts, they switch OP's too early and spoils even more shit, and then the after credits where they spoil you for the next episode, and repeat ad infinitum.

And that's not unique to Sailormoon either.

Seriously.

Sample Toei episode title:

Character X dies in battle! This happens after Event Y!

Pretty much all of Toei's adaptations are guilty of this, and even some of their original works, too.

The Light of El Cantare
Just on a random note, the latest episode of Fate/Zero finally inspired me to learn a little about the historical
Gilles de Rais
, and true to his F/Z persona he was a fucking monster in real life. Just read, or not if you value your sanity.

the power toei able to spoil shit thats like 10eps away

i still hate them for the ussop vs x crewmate

after seeing the opening like 10 times I was like why is ussop attacking x ?

Spoiling
Ms. Allsunday
becoming a crew member in the third OP was even worse. That was some serious bullshit.

It's incredible is what.

Do you find Urabe to be really amazingly [redacted]?
aside from the drooling thing

Especially because of the
drool
.

Yeah, that was bullshit. Thankfully, I had already read the manga at that point, but I know a lot of people who got pissed off at that. When I showed my friend those episodes, I violated my typical "never skip the opening" rule because that spoiler is just awful (and it's thirteen episodes early).

My favorite part of the episode was the visual imagery. The moonlight is striking in that episode. It also touched on some social themes such as racism and how wars leave orphans.

Just to let you guys know things only get more weird in Girlfriend X.

I don't want my expectations to get too high, but...

What are your thoughts on the episode where
Renton goes insane destroys a enemy mech using his board and then finally figures out he has been killing people with the mechs.

I watched a bunch of first episodes in a row trying to figure out what to watch next...

Legend of Galactic Heroes: My Conquest is a Sea of Stars

At times this felt strangely like the first episode of The Wire to me--jumping into the middle of things already in-progress, throwing this huge cast of characters at the audience at once with relatively minimal introduction, and the sense that I'm watching significant things but have no idea why they'd be important. This came up as the recommended starting point on a couple of Google results for suggested viewing order, but I kind of get the feeling this is more fanservice for people familiar with the novels than anything else. I liked it okay, but I'm not dying to see more right this second, and I probably couldn't tell you who half the characters were anymore. Still I'll go back and give "Overture to New War" a shot at some point in the future.

Yurumates 3Dei

It's three minutes long, and it made me actually laugh once ("Mom said to open this whenever I'm in trouble."), so I guess I liked it.

Upotte! 1

What does the constant quivering at the thought of being manhandled and fired mean in context of their morning target practice? Are they personifications of all guns of that model?

If this series were to pull a School Days, it would make me so happy I'd import at least the final volume on BluRay.

Heartcatch Precure 1-2

This is cute. I watched mostly because of the smugface image, but it's actually pretty entertaining. It will be good to watch an episode or two of whenever in a bad mood.

Fate/Zero 1

This was funny to watch after the LoGH movie, since it was somewhat similar (dropping you in the middle of Events In Progress) but with a ton of explanation covering who everyone was, what they wanted out of everything, etc etc etc. Exposition Circle-Walk was no less silly in the show than in the gif--the information was relatively interesting, but who does that? Then it cuts off right as things start getting seriously interesting. This was good enough to move me to watch the next episode, which introduced probably my favorite pair (team
Serial Killer & Bluebeard BFFs
all the way), so it's filled my "nothing to watch" void for at least the next few days. Pity about the BluRay pricing. I could probably justify shelling out $200 for it, but $400 is just insane. I could import Dennou Coil for that much!

raito-kun had some interesting comments about Fate/Zero ep14 on twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/raito_kun/

Storyboarding and animation (except the CG stuff) on Fate/Zero were still kinda lame in the new episode. And not much improvement in sight.

Really, the secret star of F/Z is Yuichi Terao, the director of photography. F/Z is no 'sakuga anime', but a 'satsuei anime'.

The visuals of F/Z are all about photography and digital polish. Ei Aoki started out in photography, no surprise he puts emphasis on it.

At least ufotable has a somewhat unique style regarding photography. Different from the dominant style which is based on Hirokata Takahashi.

Or rather based on the philosophy of Takahashi Production/T2 Studio, which Takahashi founded to work on Osamu Dezaki's anime back in the 70s

I think it's definitely true that Fate/Zero is very much about the photography and digital aspects, but I don't think he gives enough credit to the animation and storyboarding. While the end product is elevated and executed by the digital photography and effects, the storyboarding and in many cases the animation is still is base of concept.

It's true that Fate/Zero isn't really a "sakuga" anime, because what is truly impressive is not the sole talent of an animator working on a sequence, but being able to keep the show interesting and exciting definitely owes some credit at least to the storyboarding and animation process.

Now I've got to know, just how weird does it get?

Every time Tsubaki drinks her drool or Urabe drinks his they experience a the sensation the the other has. For example if Tusbaki is aroused and Urabe drinks his drool she feels aroused. Or if Urabe gropes her own boobs and Tusbaki drinks her drool he feels that sensation of actually feeling her boobs. But it even goes deeper then that if Urabe is wearing a skimpy outfit under a coat or something Tusbaki will somehow fell the sensation of actually seeing that skimpy outfit. Oh Urabe is like a wizard with scissors and is able to cut things into any shape quickly and usually does this when she gets flustered and keeps the scissors in her underwear at all times

Not many - going through Wikipedia we have Hatsukoi Limited and Level E as the only examples that stand out to me, but they're both very recent adaptations. I mean, I see your point to an extent (as in "why not 26 episodes"?) but most Shounen Jump adaptations air in prime time slots rather than the middle of the night and late night shows these days are tending more and more to run for only one season at a time.

Only Naruto and Bleach air primetime and that's on a shitty channel. One Piece, Toriko and Hunter x Hunter all air on Sunday Mornings.

Also note that Urabe gets even cuter as the series progresses as long as they adapt faithfully. and she also has a pretty big
rack

This entire ending setup feels so tacky and odd. Sure the action and intensity is there but its hard to feel any sort of awe or cool from it.
Yuki's moments were great until the table was turned and Ninth's, though her powers of going through stuff and fending off Murmur, failed to impress at the end. Im still waiting for this world's Akise and if this world's Yuno will do anything.

I don't even.

I'm planning to try it for a few more episodes. I wonder if I'll laugh or vomit...or laughably vomit.

E7
Well I thought it was great as it undermined both the character and audience. Renton because he thought he was so cool being able to wipe out all these mechs until he realizes that he's killing a person's husband or a father. It's pretty Gundam-ish in that it showed how both sides of a war are human beings even if a person can't see them. It also gave a weight to his actions in that he now had an understanding of why people viewed Gekko State as a terrorist group and himself as well. This also played on the audience as well in that the audience is impressed with Renton's capabilities and skill until they realize he is killing other human beings. It gives a shade of grey to the character and a sense of tragedy to the series as a whole

Hahaha oh man I'm going to hate AO as I doubt it's even going to be a quarter as good as the original series.

Nyarlathotep 1

I dunno, if they were gonna desecrate the Cthulu mythos by moefying it they could've at least come up with some crazier shit than this. All in all it was pretty underwhelming but I'll keep watching until it finishes or until I get sick of it. Whatever happens first.

What is 'photography' in anime? He keeps mentioning Takayuki Hirao and Tetsuya Takeuchi so I think he just wants good action sequence (Takeuchi's part in Kara no Kyoukai 5). Episode 4 was good in that aspect but every other fights was pretty much CG only.

Here are more Girlfriend X spoilers if anyone is interested.

at the end of one day Urabe gives Tsubaki her drool and he has a nosebleed. She then throws him a pair of her panties and reveals that she did not wear any panties for the entire day and he then puts her panties in his pocket. Urabe sleeps naked. The drool bond also extends to another girl (who has a boyfriend) so there are three kids sharing droll among each other.

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san 1

Damn, I was just joking when I said this would be better than Apollon, but this sure is something. Quite a far cry from the flash episodes. "Anime: The Anime" seems like an apt description. It's pretty self-aware and quite funny.

Nyaruko is awesome and it's nice to finally see a harem protagonist willing to physically abuse his haremmates with a fork. Totally something that's been missing from the genre until now.

I am a bit disappointed that it seems the glasses girl won't show up based on the OP and ED, but still, good stuff. Surprise of the season so far, especially going by the flash episodes which were amusing time-wasters at best and 2 minutes of nothing at worst.

Photography in anime is like photography in any other sense of the term. It is the cinematography of the visual medium via the manipulation of cameras. Do you need a more detailed explanation?

To be clear, although in the pre-digital days animation was filmed with real cameras on animation stands, virtually all animation these days is done with virtual cameras in composition software.
