Ok. Let me rephrase this better. Is there any MOE anime that has hair that isn't...
nevermind. fuck it.
I like shiny hair.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Animating hair is infinitely more complex than cars. Imagine a car driving along a road, and there's a bunch of cars in front of it and in the back of it, and there are many roads, and all the roads are twisting and overlapping, and there's an earthquake causing the roads to undulate, or gravity breaks down and the roads start floating into the air, and so on and so forth.

Pretty much yes. It honestly baffles me as to why there aren't more people who can animate a car. I mean we're not talking about elaborately crafted classic cars like the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing in Fate Zero. I'm talking about simpler vehicles like a Toyota Crown or Mercedes E class like you see in the typical anime series. Those cannot be that difficult to accurately draw or animate. In fact, I know they arent.

A Desertrian with two faces? This is going full on TTGL.

And this is why the villains will never win

Grandma kicking ass, nonstandard attacks, and a nice heartwarming story. And more awesome music.

Dune's swag is off the charts

After my experience with Sailor Moon yesterday, I'm not going to watch the previews anymore. :(

Just 5 more episodes to go!

Bjergsen is the greatest midlane in the world
Sometimes you don't even need to watch a full episode to know that a show's going to be bad.
Sure, absolutely. I don't think I made it through more than 20 seconds of Kuromajo-san ga Touru. Or even like 1/3 of Polar Bear Cafe. There's lots of other stuff that seems interesting that still needs to prove itself though.

Previews for shows are ridiculously spoilery. Dunno why shows allow them. I guess to drum up interest for the next episode but do they have to give away plot points and important scenes?

hairs, cars, non-static backgrounds...

fluid animations are expensive

Yeah, but Toei's is a hell of a lot worse, I'm still mad over Sailor Moon. ;_;

hair and backgrounds are more organic things. Cars are big boxy solid metal objects in which the entire thing pretty much just goes one direction. Its not difficult and shouldnt be very expensive to animate them. Especially since anime doesnt seem to utilize the excessively styled cars.

If only we could go back to the days of beautiful animated car chases like Polyphonica :(

Everything is tsundere to me
Looks to me like the same group of people posting all the time!

Hey, people have questions, I must answer.

Anyway...

Acchi Kocchi 01
Tsumiki is HNNNG, Mayoi is Troll, Hime is LOL, Sakaki is Bro, and I have the strangest desire to perform a flying curbstomp on Io. Pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Honestly, I don't get it. Is it because he's boring and doesn't emote much? Is it because he acts so cocksure and "perfect"? I'll be damned if I can figure it out though, because I still wanna punch him out. The rest of the cast is classy enough for me to overlook him, but damn if I don't get the strangest urge to injure him...

Regarding cars:
The problem is not specific to cars, but to rotation of complex objects in general. When you add in all the little doodads that make up a car you get something difficult to turn around. This "problem" is more obvious with giant space craft. This is why humongous space ships are usually static, with lots of twinkling and activity going on in and around the ship, but no real movement of the ship itself. You get some left to right motions or near to far, but that's mostly it.

Haiyoru! Nyaruko-san: 1

Shit, this is just a better Sengoku Collection. And I can't back out of Shitgoku Collection (can't give up that bet for ramen!). Now, it looks like I'm watching both. I've penetrated myself good this time.

Buying a fiddle stash gives this Nyaruko girl points

The short fights were just silly, but an opening episode can give you such things. Music was eh, transitions were bleh (as with many of these things). Character designs (sans mythical character, Nyaruko) are very boring.

But it's the first " stupid fun" show of the season, I've kinda liked due to some of the humor, so it'll stay for now.

Also, Nyaruko herself is pretty hip.

This is why in all those far away shots of humongous space ships in space opera, the ships are usually always static and simple left-to-right motions, or near-to-far ones.

Or CG. We were getting CG space colonies as far back as Char's Counterattack.

I don't see how it is any more difficult to get right than animating a character. to me animating a character would be more difficult because you have to make the character move in a smooth organic way. with a car it can be jerky, bumpy, and rough.

I just chalk this all up to laziness on the animators' part.

In general the problem has to do with there being an increasing shortage of specialized mechanical animators who are trained and experienced in drawing, detailing, and animating motion for vehicles.

The main demand for these animators are to work on robot shows where you get maximum returns because having good robot fights could actually increase sales. The impact of good 2D car, plane, or ship animation on sales in a normal series which doesn't really have anything to do with those things (they're just either background or props which come up when the situation calls for it) is basically negligible.

Animation skill comes from experience. If you do not have the experience in instinctively knowing how something moves and hence being able to animate it well, you will not be able to do it in the expected amount of time. Because the majority of animation has to do with characters, there are far more decently experienced character animators than mechanical animators.

Cars are rigid bodies, your brain will naturally focus on deformations more than they will for a character.

Have you ever watched an animu character turn their head in slow motion? There are lots of frames which would make you think "is her face actually attached to her head?" or "human skulls don't work like that", but it doesn't matter because your brain fills in the missing bits by itself.

Unless we're talking about a show like Ex Driver or F where the car animation was very important. Then there's stuff like gunsmith Cats, riding Bean and Y.U.A. where it was highly important to get the vehicles right.

In most shows though, yeah a properly depicted car isnt so important unless the director or animation director says it is.

Another interesting point is that even with character animation, you'll notice that there is a small pool of elite character animators who are able to animate full body motion in detail. More often than not, what we see in the majority of character scenes are either just the head, or close-ups which only show parts of characters. In full body scenes, there is either very little animation, or sometimes none at all.

On the other hand, when you're showing a scene on the road or highway, and a car needs to just move by, you basically need to draw the entire thing.... moving.

Even if they skimp on the animation, I still have a hard time bleieving that SOMEBODY cant quickly draw out a proper looking car. I mean I used to draw realistic cars on the back of my notebooks and stuff. If you gave me some paper and a sketch pencil right now I could draw a pretty convincing Lamborghini in about ten minutes. Animating it would obviously take time, but at least get the initial rendering of the automobile correct in the first place. It can even be generic. It just has to look like a proper car and not some joke kids toy.
