There's more to an OP/ED than the music. It's how the visuals and the music combine.

I don't see how six books going in a circle and clicking on one makes the world go white has much thematic relevancy. Then again, I haven't watched the show so I wouldn't know. I'm assuming each girl is represented by a book? I don't get the clicking part though.

The OP conveys much more. The montage of the girls posing around doesn't really tell much. However, the reflections from the crystal suggest regret and reflection upon their ideals, while the shattering of the crystals at 0:58 suggest conflict between them.

Again, I haven't watched the show and nor do I have much desire to from wonzo's reaction but I think the OP reveals much more than the ED does in terms of portrayal of characters and telling their own 'mini' story.

I'm actually kind of wanting to watch Fairy Tail at an accelerated pace now, but I suppose I can manage a few episodes a week. The fights and overall plot are still pretty dull, but I like a lot of the manic humor in a shut-your-brain-off sort of way. It seems like a series that would make for easy marathoning.

I liked Fairy Tail from what I've watched of it (~30 episodes). I'm sure I would appreciate it more if I was still in my shounen phase though. It's just very shounen through and through.

On a personal note
I had a possessive, abusive father who severely restricted my life in the name of "love" and didn't hesitate to destroy the things that made me happy if I questioned or disobeyed him
, so this episode really hit home.
Now you are just making me feel dirty about looking at Rea's cleavage in the first episode.

I should have worded my post better. I just meant that the author didn't handle it very deftly and it came off as not so serious.

Yeah, I can see that. I think it's less the fact that it wasn't handled seriously and more that the overall tone of the corresponding chapters is just wackier, so the rapid mood whiplash can actually make it hard to determine which scenes you're supposed to take seriously or not. I don't think it's a particularly bad approach though, just a different one.

I'm kind of torn here since the wackier tone is kind of important for the opening chapters before the actual somber scenes kick in. I know everyone is talking about how the anime is much better than the manga, but I really think people here are just more likely to appreciate a delicate handling of certain themes, which I wouldn't call better or worse than what the manga does.

I do like this interpretation though and am particularly excited to see how this scene (minor spoilers and maybe nsfw) is treated.

Fuck yes. Yes yes yes. Hype mode engaged.

Also Chiaki Omigawa next week. Prepare yourselves.

Did you like the music? The music during the sequence where the G-monster destroys stuff was amazing. Did anyone else like that they continued to use "Tsuzuku" at the end of the episode?

Yes and yes I noticed it! I was surprised by the direction and man does it just all feel so right.

Hopefully the OST doesn't take too long to come out; I want to buy it.

I like how this episode explains what's going on and yet by the end it manages to be just an nonsensical as it was in the beginning. This is incredible. *sucks on statue finger*

Kurumi is the "best" and Sawako is the best. Easy!

Ha!

Kimi ni Todoke S2 07

This shit is just getting ridiculous now.

Sawako is irritating the fuck out of me. So many misunderstandings it's ridiculous. What is so goddamn hard in being clear in what you're trying to say?!

Kurumi slapping the hell out of Kent when he suggested he'd take Sawako of her hands was a huge shock, considering it would give her a chance to strike when the iron is hot and everything.

And I absolutely love that small tidbit at the end from Sawako "I haven't been trying...." YOU DON'T SAY.

I hope this crap is cleared up in the next episode, because I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Per the usual I'd been warned to the quality of the second half of this show but assumed there was a lot of hyperbole and something salvageable would be found but, alas, so much terrible in this.
Ribbons keeping his pimp hand strong was nearly welcomed since it was Wang Liu Mei but it seemed so out of place. Not a fan of the 0-Raiser either as anyone piloting it would probably be scared shitless by whoever was piloting 00, and the combined power of the two is ridiculous.

Also there was this gem:
Kaji: People get hurt if you fight!
*punches Setsuna*
Kaji: I'm not like you!

I'm going to spend tomorrow wondering when the exact moment occurs that this all goes wrong. I'll probably end up looking like this:

Fuck yeah. That shit was awesome, Jigen was awesome, the setup was cool. Real good stuff.

Also that badass quaote from Jigen was great: "No matter how callous a man may seem, he always retains a shred of compassion."

So good.

"And no matter how desperate a woman may seem, she always retains a shred of hope."

Space Brothers 1: That was really enjoyable. The Zidane joke had me chuckling quite a bit. I had almost forgotten about that incident. Didn't think it'd show up here of all places. Mutta is a likeable character. Those expressions and his pitiable sides are endearing. The whole parents and son scene was hilarious. Meanwhile Hibito is a good bro, hooking Mutta up with an opportunity to fulfill their promise of space travel. I'm pretty impressed he was able to lift Mutta and run around full speed when they saw the ufo. He's got some energy. Well he does seem like the superman of the pair thus far. I'm guessing that Mutta will be heading off to some selection training next episode. Should be a fun romp.

The production seemed very solid. No complaints. I liked how the transition scenes were directed for the most part. The whole of the first half with Mutta getting fired, lounging around and then job hunting had a very fluid pace. I haven't read the manga so I don't know how 1:1 it is but props to the story boarders. The music felt very appropriate. Nothing surprising but it fit well.

I'm looking to watch more of this show.

I know that feel bro

Lupin the 3rd: A woman name Fujiko Mine: I don't have the right words to express it but it was an impressive watch! It really does look like a Koike work. All that classy shading and style. The music was also very ace. Basically the aural and visual stimulus was very high! On to the content, it felt like watching an old heist/spy flick. The crazy capers, sexual conduct (they certain made Fujiko very erotic which is the point), thieves trying to outdo each other in even more exaggerated ways... I really liked how the drugs was a statue that Lupin tried to steal by attaching rockets on it. My favourite scene I think was Fujiko and Lupin's shoot out in the dark. That was really cool. On a side note the VA was also really good I thought. I don't have any experience with the old cast but this one sounded good to me.

This is my first entry into the Lupin series, I really want to see what the rest of the series has to offer at some point.

This is the first time I read one of your posts about the show you were watching because I just assumed it was something I wouldn't understand with all of your (seemingly) referential pony pics.

Now that I've read it, I'm actually very, very confused.

Well my impressions are indeed for those who've seen the episode.

I'm not sure what was so confusing about this one though :(

I wish I could experience more Omigawa, but I have an amazingly low tolerance for SHAFT comedies. Though I've only seen the first episode of Soredemo, so maybe I should try more of that.

I'm not sure what was so confusing about this one though :(
Not so much the content, but just that it wasn't for an anime after all but the MLP show itself.

I'm half way through the Phantom Quest Corp OVA thingies. I'll hopefully finish it tomorrow or some time this weekend. My boss dropped a bit of work on me to do, so yeah... : (
Really enjoying it so far, though. It's silly, but just feels like it drags its heels in places.

Ah My Goddess TV 17
So, we have an episode about that glasses wearing girl that's in the same club as everyone else. She can't do this, can't do that. Everyone believes she can, cheers up her, etc. So, she is able to do such things! But, come actual race day, she gets scared again and goes back to I can't do this. So, with the power of Belldandy, she gains the confidence back to race.
A very by the books episode, but at least next week we have a hot springs episode.

Ginga e Kickoff!! 1

With all the hot shows airing this season, it's not surprising that a simple and straightforward piece of family entertainment like this gets ignored. But while it is very clearly aimed at a young audience and is not the most memorable show around, its solid craft achieves what it aims for and is pleasant to watch.

Our protagonist, Shou, is a sixth-grader who is extraordinarily passionate about soccer even though he's not that good at it. His fresh-faced enthusiasm is charming, and Kobayashi fits the role like a glove. His soccer team has just been disbanded, but he's determined to reform it and so approaches random strangers practicing in the park to ask for their assistance. This method not only nets him a skilled and experienced girl who recently moved to the area, but also leads to an motivational encounter with a member of the World-Cup-winning Japanese women's soccer team.

It's a good old inspirational sports yarn, made enjoyable by the earnestness that extends from Shou to the entire production. The visuals are not incredibly impressive, but the soft art style is easy on the eyes and some of the landscapes are quite lovely.

There is one impressive burst of animation in the pre-OP scene that gives hope the show will be able to handle future soccer matches well. I've pulled out one frame to highlight what this sequence does right:

Note the distorted shape of the ball, the blur effect on both it and the leg, the visible motion of the air about the ball, and the striking pose of the player with the leg reaching into the foreground. You can see the force and energy behind the kick, and the impact it makes on the surrounding space. Anyone who wants to visually convey the dynamic athleticism of playing soccer can take lessons from this.

You guys watch everything. I don't know how the fuck you do that. Anyways, I'll keep delaying Steins;Gate even further, while I check out Fate/Zero next.

except unlike the Super Gundam, it's exclusive to Saji, you can't strap every pilot to Kamille's back in the latest Super Robot Wars and let him carry them to level 50

Eureka Seven AO 01

Maybe I'm just too critical after watching a lot of great animu last night, but I didn't like it.
It felt like a disaster movie where they didn't even attempt to make the characters relatable, to the point where the obvious love interest is an asthmatic girl in a rather vicious attempt to make her as moé as possible. The episode is full of character introductions and it made it lose a lot of focus. I understand this is done to give the events a grander scale, but instead of getting engaged I end up confused because of the multitude of factions and terms introduced. The first episode of Eureka Seven accomplished the "grander than life" vibe without having to resort to such idiocy, and even the sentimental element (Renton and Eureka vs Ao and Eureka) was inserted into the plot more naturally.

There's also a lot of expository dialogue going on. There's a moment when the band of dealers or whatever explain to each other what the hell are they doing and with whom they are making business with no other motivation than to make the audience privy of the plot. Shouldn't they have discussed these shenanigan before setting off? Not to mention stupid dialogue like "there's a giant hole now where the explosion occured" while showing said giant hole. Redundancy of the worst kind.

Like I said, perhaps I'm just too discerning after last night. It looked very nice and it sounded gorgeously. I am just disappointed because this is the animé that has seemed the most "animé" out of everything I watched this season when they could have easily done without all the fluff. Imo Guilty Crown did the same type of pilot episode much better.
Ginga e Kickoff!! 1
Loved your write-up on this. Probably the first great surprise of the season for me. I'm too used to sports animu just being stiff and unengaging.

That was pretty fun!

It gives off a much nicer impression than The Knight in the Area, and I can actually sympathize with the protagonist this time around because despite loving soccer and having played it since I was just a little kid,
I freaking suck at it.

Looking forward to watching the next episodes.

Lupin the III: A Woman Called Fujiko Mine 2

That was impressive. The style this show oozes is mind blowing at times. This episode was much more character focused than the first episode and we got to delve in very deep into Jigen's past and his philosophies. I can't wait for next week's episode.

I thought it was okay. It had dull direction and conspiracy plots lose me pretty easily, but nothing stood out to me as particularly bad. Everyone in the show (and especially Koko) is a bit happy-go-lucky for their line of work, but I'll just have to accept that these guys really, really love
underground arms dealing
. If nothing else, the show will be good for a little cheap violence and military porn every week.

More euphemisms than a Star Wars film.

This show has some weird Freudian subtext with Kohga and Athena. Not something I really expected in a kids' show.

The action was decent enough, but I'm not sure starting a series with a training episode was the right decision. With all the strong shows this season, I don't see much reason to continue watching this unless the story and characters improve.

Chris is that you?

HOLY SHIT—

—The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon was so awesome, because I just watched it beginning-to-end and it's so well-executed (though I still have things to criticize). Plenty of off-model experimentation happening in the between frames, amazing musical score from the original Godzilla composer, and a real endearing mythological story with some of the best animation of the period. Like Disney on crack, which is much better.

But I have work to do tomorrow morning, so impressions for this and the most recent Lupin will have to wait.

It sounds like you expected something that isn't Saint Seiya.

I don't know how I could have expectations when I've never watched the series before, those are just my impressions as a Saint Seiya virgin.

That is a horrible font, it was a horrible font when I didn't make people not use it for Shin Mazinger, and it was a horrible font when I used it for about 4 lines of some shounenish show. Shameful.

Sounds like some repressed trauma.
