Wow what a cruel thing to do... That actually happens? =(
Brb watching
not really, but that does sound super compelling. Dog cage...
Look man, it's to protect her. It's romantic.
Well that's just bullshit then! *shakes head*
lol
It's probably the closest thing you'll get to 50 shades of grey in shoujo anime.

Although I never did watch that vampire shoujo where all the guys literally treat the girl like a piece of trash.

That sounds horrible D: I just don't really like waifu culture, so seeing characters get built up only to get destroyed in front of the fanbase slowly is kind of hilarious to me, but I doubt anybody cares about the characters in that amnesia thing so her being a a cage is pointless! Now if it was somebody people cared about...*licks lips*

"Now tell me that I am the best." Holy shit I'm dying, it's like some version of Mahouka where Onii-sama is a narcissist.

It reminds me of the flipped version of that one show where the dude is a masochist. MM! or something like that.

It's why I like watching shoujo though, because desire is replicated in a completely different manner. There are still the types, as evidenced by UtaPri with its harem of 10 guys who each have a specific type, but it's completely different from your standard tsundere, childhood friend, oujosama, etc set up that you see in harem anime geared toward men.

Sucks to watch a show make you lose interest yet you keep watching it to just finish the story yet all you do I'd just look at your phone and hope it ends quick.

I'll be honest, I don't think that I've ever seen a shoujo or harem or whatever. I guess the only harem I watched was the OG Tenchi when I was younger but that was over a decade and a half ago! Those girls were crazy and I liked it.

Man, the above sounds like Diabolic Lovers, where 7 vampire brothers are all pretty much trying to rape the same girl at the same time in the first episode. ... dropped and ram from it immediately.

What continually surprises me about Shougeki no Soma is the show's ability to take such a stupid concept and not only make it entertaining but also moving in a dramatic sense. It's very much like Gundam Build Fighters in that it takes a silly thing like cooking showdowns and plays it deathly straight for great emotional impact.
A striking element in this and some of the recent prior episodes is how the 'Foodgasms' that was originally a sexual element more than anything else, have been twisted into something more complex and fun than what they originally were. Now we get stuff like characters turning into magical girls or a women being seduced by a duck-merman singing opera. They've become so outlandish that it's fun to see not how the show tops itself but rather what insane thing they'll think of next. However they serve a really poignant narrative element in the show by functioning as a built-in flashback machine of sorts. In this episode's case, it allows one of the characters to reminiscence on their experiences leading up to that moment and their childhood. The flashback doesn't feel out of place due to how personal these 'Foodgasms' can be. The audience/readers can't taste what the characters are eating so the Foodgasms freshen up something that could have turned out really flat. Someone describing how tender a duck is, is pretty boring compared to seeing them caressed by a duck while operatic music plays.
However it's not just the Foodgasms that have made the show as good as it has been, but the characters. Soma has been a great lead in that while he's very hot blooded and shounen-esque, he's also just as smart and capable. He contemplates the skill levels of his opponents and is really adaptable in not only his cooking but his environments. That makes him unpredictable in a lot of scenarios and thus intriguing to watch. In addition, I thought this episode did a great job at fleshing out one of his personality traits, his drive to win. While it's always been there, this episode it almost leaks out of him and then does so explosively at the end. He puts on this mask of not being overly concerned about winning but it's clear he wants to be the best. Not to mention the show does an excellent job of not making Soma invincible, such as in episode 12 and prior episodes by having capable rivals. In a shounen, a character is only as good as their rivals. You then have some of the side characters like Megumi, in which the show has spent a lot of time showing her failures and dependence on Soma, only for her to fly on her own this episode (well sorta). The show has done a notable job establishing why she has her insecurities, in that she's in a super competitive school and is barely keeping her head above water, but also by breaking her dependence on Soma helps to strengthen their relationship. Unlike say Danmachi, there's a clear reason as to why she's attracted to Soma. Then there's Erina who is still a stuckup bitch, but she's fine for being the 'pain-in-the-ass villain who is not really a villain'. Her continually getting flustered when dealing with Soma is kinda funny to watch. Shinomiya's development this episode actually helped to make him somewhat sympathetic despite how much of an ass he is. Seeing how
his restaurant failed because the side-chefs ignored him and how he was discriminated against
, makes his earlier reactions understandable. The side characters in the Polar dormitory don't feel flat or annoying but work as a support group.

I didn't even realize they modified the actual ED every episode until now.
All of this has been aided by great direction not only visually but audibly as well. I thought the soundtrack this episode was especially good such as the song at 09:05, the piano solo really nails the atmosphere and emotions. The episode also likes to cut in and out of the ED and has done so in the past. I would say that helps to prevent the episode structure from becoming stale and things such as Soma and Erina humming the ED works not only as great comedic fodder but also helps to soften Erina's character and make her more likable.
There are shots like this which while they portray Shinomiya as being serious, he's also animated in a softer fashion thus losing his cocky element. He looks more human than earlier in the episode, so as to show him starting to feel again. The sound direction has also generally been on point like the clacking sound of the coins dropping or Soma's voice being slightly raspy when
he was saying that Megumi can still stand tall after losing
. There was also Soma's hand slap in episode 11 and it works not only for Megumi but due to how sharp it is and the lack of music afterwards, it snaps the audience out as well. There's changes in volume such as in episode 11 to highlight climatic scenes, an example being around the 12:50 mark. There are smaller things like the shift in art to SD at times, that help to keep the comedic feel going. The show's energy makes it much more fun than I expected going in.

God damn it I want to eat this but I'm not capable enough to cook it.
The food porn is also nice.

No doubt lol. City Hunter almost seems like a reverse harem where all of the girls are hot as hell, and there's loads of them, but they just want to beat the shit out of him lol. Mokkori!

Now that Jojo is done (for now) I guess catching up on some other shows like Soma might be a good idea. BBB comes back tomorrow right?

Well my writing about Soma this week would pale compared to Jarmel's so I'll keep it short. Of all the shows I am watching and wishing they were two-cours, I'm glad that we get another season of Soma. This show is so much fun, and educational at the same time.

I'm not too big a fan of reverse-harem anime (or harem anime in general), but I've always noticed that it was very different when compared to the kind of harem anime geared towards men.

It honestly makes me wonder if a kind of reverse-harem like that existed.

Like, you know all those harem LN adaptations where the only male character amongst a group of girls is the strongest because of reasons and always saves the girls? Does an anime exist like that but with all the genders swapped?

Part of me just wants to see something like that just for how surreal it would all be. Like, can you imagine Sword Art Online if all the characters were gender-swapped?

...I apologize for any disturbing images that sentence may have put in your heads.

I'm all for genderbends, that scene with Asuna and tear licking guy would be way different then

Plus in SAO II there would be constant shots of man ass like its MGS4

They dont treat her bad and Pancake's pretty epic
especially Cordelia
, you still have time to watch before s2 this fall!

Toma and Shin were the best in Amnesia, she also made some idiotic moves when she was warned in each of those paths.

Male-oriented harems have girls that all go towards servitude while female-oriented harem routes end up with the girl going towards servitude.

They come off as the same to me.

Disclaimer: the only dating sim I've played involved pigeons.

No, because that kind of thing is considered a male power fantasy. The opposite of that isn't flipping the genders, but flipping the viewpoints.

Not sure if I follow you here, but flipping the genders is kind of what I was getting at.

Like, a story told in the style of your average LN male power fantasy but instead of the boy being the chosen one and saving the girls, it's the girl being the chosen one and saving the boys.

That's what I'm saying though, it's called a male power fantasy for a reason. The exact opposite of that doesn't really exist because it doesn't appeal to women.

There are some things sort of like what you're talking about, like Witchcraft Works, but they're marketed towards men.

Assasination classroom - 22

Assassination%20Classroom%20-%2022.jpg

That's being asked so nicely ..why ...wait NOT !!!

And thus end this first season of assasination classroom , this episode like many other had a excellent use of the black and white theme in order to enhance the dramatic moments and the result was well done.

In fact there is nothing that i trully disliked in those 22 episodes except the cheap 2nd opening animation.

The characters were excellent , the voice work suberb, the various plots were nicely done and the adaptation of the manga was 100% on point.
Season 2 , if done by the same staff will surely deliver... can't wait.

I prefer Tanukis

Snafu Season 2 ep 12

We into LN 11 territory now. Time for some more delicious drama but i dont expect it will be resolved in the last episode.

Dungeon ep 12

Obligatory bath scene nice that they didn't automatically destroy the mc and got mad at Hermes. Time to fight the giant spooky skeleton :D

It's different because of the point of view. Like you take the difference between the tsundere types, where the female tsundere still makes it clear that she likes the guy while the male tsundere is brusque and purposefully aloof and abusive. There are also types that simply don't exist, since there really isn't a version of the mature (and perhaps sexually experienced) woman in a male-centered harem/romcom. Certainly there is typically no attempt at seduction in harems when in reverse-harems, flirting is the norm.

More brothers for us!
It's the next BroCom!

I prefer Tanukis
Lewd.

The VN it's based on is coming over, too.
We can all experience the pleasure of being locked up at our own pace?

Nisekoi S2 - 11
It's actually sad that after 33 episodes , we only are now using the "impending confession being interrupted by a phone call"..

It's trully god work preventing those 2 from being together.... well more chances for chitoge i guess.

That's true. I think that female-oriented harems also have a much greater focus on the men as characters over just their attraction to the main character. It still exists, but its not focused on as much as it would be in a male-oriented harem.

Also, I had a friend who seemed like she was super into BroCom, so when I went to Japan I figured I would pick up something for her from Akiba. Unfortunately, when I got there I realized she'd never actually talked about any of the guys in particular, and there wasn't any merchandise that just had everyone on it, so I spent 10 of the most awkward minutes staring at it trying to figure out what I should buy for her before just deciding to look up the most popular character and buying something with him on it.

Then when I gave it to her, she blankly stared at it and only figured out what it was after 30 seconds. God damnit. I felt less awkward on the floor with the dakimakura.

He already has chosen a girl, but, he cannot act on it for another 2 years and Onodera knows it, lol.

winter , then nisekoi , then one piece , then the basement.

that is the most realistic answer.

At least with one piece oda has an idea of what it is.
At least with nisekoi there are already girls to choose from.
At least game of throne can end ( there is already and ending planned and already written )

But the basement ? the guy hasn't even thought about what is inside it.
