I think they dodged the bullet with Shuichi tbh. If their interactions are any proof of it, their relationship doesn't seem to be as close as it was before, and they stay at a distance from each other at all times. As for the teacher... Probably won't happen either. I think. Last episode is gonna be the concert and how they either make it or not to the Nationals. If they do, it's be a perfect chance for a Season 2. If they don't they could still do it, with the band taking another shot at it.

I could be completely wrong here though, I haven't read the novels after all.

looks relevant to my squees.

As a leading idol anime connoisseur I can tell you it's due to a very simple reason.

They were much better with merchandising than the other shows. Even AKB0048, which has the benefit of being based of one of the biggest idol groups that have their own stores with oodles of tat (trust me, I've seen them), has bugger all in terms of merch.

You gotta get people to invest into the idols to keep them on a leash.

Also games. Love Live and obviously iDOLM@STER have these. It gets people more involved as they now feel they are part of the story (producer, fellow student etc). Where's the WUG Zoo visual novel we were promised?

AKB0048 was the good kind of terrible. It didnt have much marketing or hype though compared to the othber two you are correct. Not even figurines or anything (the character designs were honestly pretty terrible)

I'm not sure what that would even mean, given that at least K-On had a definite idea of what it was.

I mean, Kancolle copied Strike Witches with the whole moe-yuri-girl-slice of life crap with the action junk, and did it as well as they could given what they had. I'm assuming that there's absolutely no fiction involved, since the game itself is just replicating WW2 battles, so I don't know what people expect. Yeah, everything is below average in terms of its constituent parts, so I could see complaints in that direction, but you're not supposed to expect a Kancolle anime to be the next True Dick either. It's the very definition of something that is purely "functional" in the anime merchandising business. lol

Kancolle doesnt work as well as Strike Witches. Strike Witches dealt with airplanes and pilots, so it had a dynamic action vibe to it that slow plodding ships cannot match at all. The individual shipgirls are cuties and thats fine, but Strike witch characters stand out a lot more to me. I didnt really care much about any particular ship girl but I like for example, Eila and Sanya (of course), Perrine, Shirley,Miyafuji and Erica. They just present better. I dont really know why. I had to struggle through watching Kancolle and I didnt even finish it.

Trust me, I've done the maths, the science and the geography and can confirm they are just boats seen through an anime market exploitation lens. If we switched to the Pixar lens the show would just look like a Cars spinoff with boats that talk. They are mechanical. So raise up your anchor and stop considering docking with them.

Of course melting them down for parts would still be horrific as seen in that Brave Little Toaster car crushing song. They may be mechanical, but they are concious.

Oh god Brave Little Toaster is simultaneously one of my best childhood movie memories and gave me nightmares. I should watch it again!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary from when it started seralizing, Kadokawa is bundling the non-collected episodes selected by Keiichi in a special booklet in a special edition of manga volume 10 releasing in December. Said booklet will be bundled with the regular edition of v10 in a special sleeve case.

Responses to the ones I know of.

The following are more of comedy than romance:
-Seto no Hanayome - Hilarious. Though the "winner" is pretty much decided from the start, the hijinks of dealing with the mermaid yakuza are pretty great.

-School Rumble - I've only seen the first half, I think, and from what I recall its comedy is certainly romance-based. Solid as a comedy, you're likely to be disappointed if you expect the romance to go anywhere. Kind of like a Nozaki-kun without the shoujo manga shtick, I guess?

-Karin - An amusing take on vampires, but it's largely pretty average. I don't recall there being much competition if at all for the main pairing.

-Full Metal Panic Fumoffu - Also a comedy goldmine. You don't really need to watch the Full Metal Panic to get the gist of the relations, either, but romance is largely non-existant here.

For the ones leaning more towards romance:
-Kare Kano - Solid from what I've seen so far, highly regarded by some around here.

-Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - I liked this a lot, but I might be a bit biased here...

-True Tears - The salt this one generates is too real. I felt it was rather grounded and well done overall, and whether you are okay with or hate the show boils down to how you feel about the finale...

-Kimikiss Pure Rouge - It was okay, though it basically boils down to two dudes each deciding between two separate girls within their circle. If teenagers being unsure of their feelings makes you mad (and from what I've seen, it very much does), you probably won't like this.

-A Lull in the Sea - Beautiful show, but might not be for you for similar reasons listed above.

Other:
-Anohana - Not particularly a romance, but a rather polarizing tear-jerker. You'll probably like this one if you enjoyed Kanon and Clannad.

Full Moon Wo Sagashite ep. 13-18:
Some intense moments building up in this one at times. The whole Takuto/Mitsuki thing is kinda weird in a way, but there has to be a deeper link there as Meroko just hinted at. They are still playing the same song, but the music is still nice and the characters are engaging...

This is an arc with Madoka in it a lot I think. Their rivalry and all that.
I like her rendition of Eternal Snow which is more pop, although less heartfelt.

kekkai sensen letimiately has some of the most incoherent direction i've seen in a long time. not even talking about the stupid convoluted plot, but the way scenes blend into each other is embarrassingly halfhearted and unfocused.

add in lazy references for humor. bait character designs. another ugly show that know-nothings mislabel as "sakuga porn". a literal dumping ground of ideas that cohere into nothing that is again mislabeled as "creative".

guaranteed anncast's and kotaku's top three shows of the year and that should tell you everything.

Sometimes I think you need a big ol hug. But you would probably just rate my hugs poorly

Rumbling Hearts ep.1-6

Damn, this one runs through the first episode like a normal school time anime, then in the second it hits you hard. It is definately a crazy love triangle that pulls you into the character's depths of depression and pain, but also throws in spurts of comedy (not really needed, but watching the waitress get owned constantly is great) You can take any of their perspective and really put yourself in their shoes and trying to find a right or wrong answer for this one would prove very difficult. Also, I forgot to mention that this anime, by far, has the most realistic relationships (including sex) that I have seen in anime. The situation itself may be very anime, but the way they handle their day to day life is very realistic and believable..

I can't wait to watch more tomorrow, but I swear, between this one and Full Moon, the next couple days are going to be tough....

Rumbling Hearts is excessively melodramatic I think. One of my least favorite drama anime. Clannad and Kanon are much better shows.

It's strange that they have to destroy any copies that are out in the wild. I guess I've seen digital copies disappear when companies go bankrupt, but I don't think I've seen someone be forced to recall any unsold copies just to destroy them.

They did ok in Season 1 given the material. i'm more worried about S2 when more characters will eat that precious screen time.

. I especially loved the relationship between Kumiko and Reina (what's new?). Reina is pushing Kuimiko forward and it's lovely to see. Shuichi though... What is up with that scene between him and her? Does he really have that low of an EQ or does he not care for anyone other than himself at all?

Kumiko was taken off one of her parts. It took me a few looks before I noticed that he was in the back, slightly out of focus, during the shot of Asuka's reaction. It's the way I like Shuichi to be (in the back, not a focus), but his utter lack of care for how Kumiko might be feeling when they met in the evening was baffling. Hazuki and Midori tried to cheer her up and asked her out. Reina was worried and gave her numerous (missed) calls. But it seems it didn't occur to Shuichi that Kumiko might be feeling down after that, casually asking what the hell she was doing and eventually putting his concerns over his own performance over her friend who had just been benched due to her sub par performance. I'm sure Midori, Reina and even Hazuki have their fair share of problems with their instruments too but they fucking cared

. You're an ass, Shuichi, and no amount of >< faces will change that.

And of course, Natsuki was being awesomely cute with Yuuko again.

A lot of moments in todays episode confirmed why this show is my current AOTS. I liked everything. Shuuichi is still pointless though. I was expecting some sort of real interaction between him and Kumiko today, Shame.

The running scene was godlike.
