This season has been pretty weak, to be honest. Most of the series didn't catch my attention.
Fate UBW has been baaad. My motivation for finishing it it has been to be able to point and laugh at their fans, and be able to laugh with others and all their flaws.
Jojo 3rd season is imo a bit ehh, too much mediocre eps in the middle and super BS final fight, and I never really connected with Jotaro, I liked the second season more. Ore Monogatari I started it because I heard good thing as a comedy romance but after a few eps is blaaand as fuck and repetitive, dropped.
Arslan is the only half decent thing, a medieval adventure with what seems fantasy middle east setting, but as I say, it's more in the "decent" range than "good", just watchable.
I started other series like Plastic Memories but I dropped it like a hot potato. Too obvious laughable melodrama. Like, they don't even bother to hide it! Mmm in a way it's good they are honest, I suppose?
My anime of the season is definitely Souma. Just 20 minutes of pure entertainment and fun every week. If the ecchi is a problem, then that gets turned waaaaay down after a few episodes. It sucks to always have to say this, but the first few episodes are really not a good representation of the show at all >.<

DanMachi was also pretty damn good. I went in expecting another shitty generic action-fantasy-harem light novel adaption, but it's surprisingly fun!

Punchline 12 END

I dunno, this show was pretty mediocre for me, with some great animation, which was the only reason I finished it. The second to last episode in particular was quite amazing. Hopefully 999 is more enthralling then this.

New character promos for Monster Musume. NSFW!!!

Miia serious. She ties up her shirt.

Where's Rachnee

Sup AnimeGAF, what are the chances of Monster Musume having uncensored localized versions at launch? I don't wanna wait for the blu-rays :CCC

Also, y'all ready for some nyanpasu? :D

It's airing on ATX, so a good chance? I dunno. If CR/Funi picks it up they might censor it. I dunno what they do for those kind of shows.

Yep, Soma is surprisingly decent. I'm reading the manga now. I was about to drop it in some moments, but I had a pair of totally idle days with a desire of something "fast food" for the brain, and Soma was chosen so I retook it. Obviously it's just another shounen where the "competition" and the "advancement" is done in cooking instead of any other thing (boxing, baseball, martial arts, bread making, driving) but it's well done, the dishes are interesting, the "fights" and cliffhangers are thrilling, the humor is good and there is even a touch of self-awareness in it, and you even learn lots of stuff about food.

I ship Soma with Alice and Meat. Yeah, a trio. I mean, if I'm going to do "shipping", I may go well all the way and go big. The tsundere princess which eventually will melt to the MC can fuck off, too typical.

After some positive comments I watched Expelled from Paradise, which I knew but the trailers and images made me think it would have too much fanservice so I had avoided it until now. And hey, it's actually a decent story, and scifi as hell (let's see, there are: digital societies in post-human setting, AIs, dystopia, space stations and robots and mechs, space exploration). That said it has some solid ideas but the execution isn't so good. An example:
I liked the concept shown when they reveal how the digital society works, there are limited computing power so it's society pressured into competition over them and peer-pressured in how you act, so in its own way it's far from being an utopia. But isn't never shown, instead it just given to the viewer in a cold dish of exposition.

What else. Oh yeah, a pair of weeks ago I saw Omoide no Marnie. That was, definitively, a weird Ghibli film. I say weird because it was so clunky in parts that the last thing I would think it was done by Ghibli. The writing was just all over the place, and with that I mean mostly in the mediocre parts, and the directing was nothing special.

Surprised you're that fond of Arslan. Been trying hard to like it as the premise seemed promising but the execution is terrible and even source material was really poor. Have you seen Blood Blockade Battlefront ?

Okay:
GitS Arise: Alternative Architecture
Blood Blockade Battlefront - Jury still out depending on quality of the finale but doubt it will drop out of this category.
Jojo's BA: Stardust Crusaders

Meh:
SNAFU,
FSN: UBW - Poor story saved by the production values and satisfying finish.

Poor:
Shokugeki no Soma - Pretty well executed but the subject, predictability and fanservicey/haremy aspects of source material made me unable to stomach it. Inoffensive but really dull.
Arslan Senki - aka My Little Prince Can't Possibly Be This Socialist + a bunch of cliche Mary Sues battle CG monstrosities, 2d stills and generic story beats.
Ore Monogatari - Can't say the 3 episodes I've seen give me enough grasp on it to give an informed verdict but what I've seen was really bad.

Haven't seen enough of Euphonium or Danmachi but I'm fairly sure the latter sucks.

Outside of that I might give Punchline a chance, waited for the ending impressions to see if it would be worth it.

Best shows of the season? For me not counting shorts like RGZ or I can't understand my Husband -

1. Euphonium
2. JoJo
3. Soma
4. Show By Rock
5. Ore Monogatari
6. Punchline
7. Blood Blockade Battlefront

Dropped -
DanMachi
Re-Kan
Plastic Memories
Arslan Senki
Yamada-kun

How far have you watched/read of soma? Because while early conflicts are pretty predictable, some of the later stuff is actually much less so.

Ehhh, I called watchable, not good. Actually I'm behind in this series, still in episode 7 (as I'm waiting for subs in other language as I'm seeing it with a friend which isn't good in English), I don't know if it's better or worse in the last eps.

Punchline - 12

okay, let's wait for this last major twist

...

Well and nothing special actually happens. So uh...if you watch this show then do it for the wackiness and relatively high animation quality. All the time traveling and soul-swapping business is poorly thought out and amounted to just about nothing.

Also why was there so much focus on seeing panties again? I know some episode gave a rough justification, but it must have been so bad I've already forgotten. That last shot (excluding the post-credits scene), really? "Look at everyone's panties...just because!"

I think a 4/10 would be slightly too harsh as I got some enjoyment out of it and it benefits from being only 12 episode long. 5/10 from me, wouldn't really recommend unless you want decent mindless 'fun' with quite good animation.

When Marnie Was There is the best Ghibli film since 2001, with the possible exception of Princess Kaguya.

I dropped it after the showdown with Meat. The praise it has received since kinda wants me to pick it up again but ehhh maybe if it continues getting favourable opinions.

I dropped it after the showdown with Meat.

So you dropped it right before the point where the fanservice is toned way down, and the predictability becomes a less so. The first few things followed the typical shonen jump formula of establishing a setting and characters, so Soma handled pretty much everything up to that point pretty easily. Things start to change during the training camp and especially the first year tournament.

I still get a kick out of an anime with a Louisiana town in its name.

Out of you're plan to watch list all I can say is:
Watamote: Good, but hard for me to watch since I can't deal with second hand embarrassment.
Rahxephon: I thought this was a waste of time personally.

I think Watamote doesnt bother me because I have problems empathizing with other people. I can sympathize and want to help out, but I dont cringe when people do embarrassing things or even get very embarrassed myself.

Wow, Papi the Harpy... the "ice cream"... wow

Papi is adorable af. That scene doesnt look any worse than the Momo scene. Maybe Im just desensitized to this stuff.

I might consider to watch this show actually as like the design look (even though no clue of the show). What stopping me from watching it as the sequel which I own from the Sale but is on Blu-ray. Still, might watch the show and wait till I got a Blu-ray player and watch the sequel later. Will keep a note on it.

I can understand that it might be a little difficult without a bluray player but they are really affordable now. You should be able to find one for 99$. Not many features but functional.

Well for me if I had to rank Spring it would be.

Great
Gintama
Blood Blockade Battlefront
JoJo
Arslan Senki

Good
Yamada and the Seven Witches
Soma
Yahari

Meh
DanMachi

Dropped
Seraph
Euphonium (Honestly I just can't get into KyoAni shows these days except for a few or if it's FMP but that series is a lost cause)

Gintama 228 and 229

Wasn't really digging the Love Plus stuff until the second episode. Second episode knocked it out of the park.

Caught up to the current SNAFU TOO and man am I dreading the next episode. It looks like everything can end for the club since I don't think it'll end well for anyone. Iroha has been a great comedic edition but I'm sad that she wasn't included earlier in the series since her backstory hasn't been explored. Solid rom com stuff but with that drama out of my system I'll try watching something different next.

I wouldn't say it got any less predictable really...then again, there were a bunch of unforeseen events with this last shokugeki I suppose. Fanservice definitely hasn't been as severe, i.e. no more tentacle rape if I recall correctly.

I'd say it has gotten slightly better but I already enjoyed the Meat shokugeki quite a lot. Dunno if I'd recommend phaze to continue if he disliked it there already.

edit:

My own list this season:

Hibike! Euphonium - great
Soma - good
Punchline - meh but watchable
Ore Monogatari & Kekkai Sensen - kinda bad, despite fairly strong direction

Soma is a very predictable show as the formula of a cooking/shounen style thing has to be. It's done well because of the backstory and interaction between characters helps go past many of the tropes. It's a dumb show that is way better than it has any right to be thanks to the direction and liveliness of the characters. Plus Megumi is the girl of the season so it's fine.

Soma is predictable in the way that everytime Soma gets threatened to be EXPELLED (so every 20 chapters) you know he won't lose in any real meaningful way.

Other then that it is pretty hard to predict who will win and lose, especially during the upcoming arc.

Umm, guys.....OK, this one is just weird and not even in a fettish way, it's just weird..... There has been slight character developement, but nothing that progresses into any kind of romance or anything, just a boyfriend and girlfriend swapping spit by their finger..... I can see it already, she's an alien, right? Thsi is just weird a with no plot or storyline to follow...

Haha, if you want the good ending, you have to buy the upcoming videogame since it's going to have a different ending!

Ugh...

The twists are nice and the characters are fun, but the ending and fanservice hold it back from being as great as the creators other works like Ever17 and Zero Escape.

7/10

Everything going on was somewhat done by Yakitate Japan already so I know what to expect and seeing how shounen shows go, its always gonna be somewhat predictable to begin with.

This is Kurumi. She is a super strong android capable of battle, being a maid, and being super cute and squee. The basic idea is that these androids only serve one master at a time, and that happens to be the first person they kiss. If its a guy, you know how that goes. But sometimes its a girl..

Final boss, a black hole. Nothing else it could be. Subaru/Minato is even more official now. Teamwork vs space. Teamwork wins. Minato is officially reunited with his first friend. And so the president must go. Sucks for Nanako, but she knew it was coming. He was cool. To the past. Everyone going back to their own timelines should be happy, but it feels melancholic. Subaru makes up with her own Aoi and gets a new rival. She's got plenty of friends now. A solid ending.

This show had to grow on me, but I've become really fond of it after awhile. It took time for it to find its feet, but once it did it became mystifying. The Nanako episode alone justified the series, but once you wrap your head around multiple timelines and whatnot everything clicks. I even got used to the car brooms faster than I thought. Characters were simple, but solid and well defined. Subaru wasn't the most compelling, but she managed to be alright by the end. The show certainly captured the essence of space, both the science and beauty. It was certainly nice to get a magical girl show that wasn't magical warrior or cute witch focused. I could get used to more of them. Overall, a solid show and one I would recommend others to see.

Mysterious Girlfriend X is well-directed, with some nice atmosphere, and has a good dynamic between its two leads. It's the only anime I've ever seen that I consider to be genuinely erotic, as opposed to the cheap titillation so many anime resort to that's just disgusting or dull or both.

Kawai Complex, from what I've seen, is flat and mediocre.
It's incredibly charming and all-around well produced, features a likeable cast, and the main girl has a great voice (and I don't usually notice seiyuus). It was a big surprise for me.
The show was relatively forgettable for me since I don't remember much, but what I found frustrating about the show is that even though the characters literally
swap spit
, they are also somehow afraid to touch each other and act like typical anime characters in highschool when it actually comes to sexual contact.

Yeah, there you go. It's supposed to be weird because of the spit thing, but they still act like boring anime high school characters so the premise is basically wasted.

Lol, you'd think it was some kind of twisted ecchi romcom by that, but literally, there has been little to no story outside of swapping spit/droll to convey thoughts/feelings/emotions. I'm not sure if it changes gears in the second half, but, there is little to no fanservice, not a single kiss and the girlfriend is truly a mystery because of the lack of character developement or a plot..

My rankings of the season:

Great
Hibike! Euphonium

Very Good
Kekkai Sensen
Show by Rock

Good
Unlimited Blade Works
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders -Egypt Arc-
Hello! Kiniro Mosaic
Ore Monogatari

Mediocre
Nagato Yuki
Nanoha Vivid

Bad
Ninja Slayer
Etotama

This isn't counting stuff like Sailor Moon Crystal, which I'm thankful is almost done, and Pripara, which I find so cute that I can't really rank it fairly. Also not counting shorts like Teekyuu. Overall, this season wasn't as good as the last one. Kekkai Sensen disappointed me somewhat, while Euphonium and Show by Rock really surprised me with how good they were. Next season I'm pretty excited for thanks to Gatchaman Crowds. I absolutely adored the first season, and I can't wait to see what direction the story will go in.

Punchline - 12 [End]

Besides the first and the recent two episodes this has been fairly.. meh. The supposedly "twist" midway and this conclusion did little for me. I didn't get invested in any character and I cared little for what was going on in general.
If this wasn't a weekly thing I most likely would have dropped it around episode 4 or somewhere around there. It did have some occasional funny moments, nice animation and uhm, stylish cards?

Since we are doing these:

Great
SNAFU2
Hibike! Euphonium
UBW

Very Good
Arslan
Soma
Grisaia

Good
Plastic Memories
DanMachi
Kekkai Sensen

Bad, Boring and Dropped
Seraph
Denpa Kyoushi
Punch Line

AOTS will be decided before the new OT drops. Wanna watch all last episodes for the season first.
