I have to wait for my wife to get home to watch it even though we both have read the manga.

Either way 10 continued to be a solid continuation of the series, at least there are 14 more episodes to this season. The manga chapters make it sound like the anime is doing well, but I haven't seen any numbers for it yet.

I do appreciate how manly this episode was though.
Must be nice to have someone to watch anime with!

I won't deny that :p
plus our tastes line up 98% of the time or so. I can tolerate shoujo/romance better than she can as well as some sports anime lol.

Danmachi-10

Bell is gonna have to solo the boss isn't he?

for some reason the sword princess will show up and save him again :p

nah, he will likely beat it to screw with rumors even more.

Yahari Season 2 Ep 10

This episode felt very rushed in comparison to the last few episodes but it had most of the important scenes animated so it was okay.

Danmachi Ep 10

This was an episode I enjoyed mainly because of how strong they made the middle floors seem like in comparison to the upper floors. Also Ryo hype :D

DanMachi 10

Thought the episode was alright until they decided to end it with a bang. Bell is becoming way too OP. He's on his way towards Onii-sama's power level!

it's not like the move didn't have a drawback. He had a powerful attack, but it left him in a state of being seemingly unable to fight anymore even though he was in ok shape before using the move aka it seems to be a double edged sword.

though it's a given by the end of the light novel series he will be more powerful than the gods. :p

Wouldn't be surprised if he himself became a god too. A god of the gods?

All dat glorious manservice. Best battle in the entire manga coming up1

So hyped for LWA2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6p_qU2rNZ0

Dont let me down Trigger.

is it bad to jump right into s2 of yahari? seems pretty funny from what I've seen but first season looks ugly.

The art isn't as good but I think its really charming nonetheless. Also, S1 is required otherwise you're going to be completely lost in S2.

Well I 'went in' worry free and got trap pandering and some annoying Butt Monkey before that sister even appeared. Towards the end it also appeared as if MC was a hero in disguise with some contrived story to make for extra drama.

I really don't hold the writing of this show in high regards and am pretty certain my impressions concerning the sister weren't entirely unjustified. Perhaps I'll one day go back and take another look at the show and point out the exact details, but I usually don't go back to a show I considered terrible.

The trap stuff is again more of a running joke than anything else. I guess you could say that it's representative of how some men can't get along with women and so fetishize some men in the manner in that they wish a guy was a woman instead, but that's generally true of most traps. I suppose for Hachiman who has had terrible relationships with most women, that he might feel more comfortable being around males than females. Still though, it's just comedic fodder. That said, season 2 pretty much eliminated almost all of that apart from a few scenes here and there.

I thought we weren't doing this anymore.

Rabbits, huh. Maybe he could actually try to mime being a rabbit and shoot for being the local version of the Centzon Totochtin. Being a divine party rabbit might help him score some. Drunken revels can easily lead to lewd.
This idea is too good to pass up on.

He's totally fucked though. No way is the show going to let him beat one of the teachers this soon.
But if he doesn't,
Megumi
will be expelled!

Yui is officially out of the running now. Yuki is the front runner with Iroha a distant second. I will have to watch the episode again, but yeah, that train scene says it all..
also the speed at which she runs to th e restaurant to see Hachiman, the touch on the train that he did run away from.. yeah, lovers Ben his sis and her sis trying to move things along..

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Trans? Crossdressing?

Calling them trans would be a bit of a stretch. It would imply they were legitimately queer gendered and they're clearly just played off as a kind of visual/psychological gag.

Shuichi Nitori would be trans. And, if you can get over the stereotyping, the Okama kingdom in One Piece. Saika is just a joke though, in the vein of Hideyoshi from BakaTest.

Trans? Crossdressing?

They're not though. Some like Hideyoshi literally don't have a sex. Others like Totsuka are by 'all accounts' male, but it's just some letters scribbled on a paper. They're purposefully drawn as females but they are still males. Many straight out aren't transexuals nor do they generally crossdress. That would be an inaccurate description.

It's not like Wandering Son or something.

In these cases, maybe something like agender or just non-binary would suffice? Not certain, just a suggestion.

In the other case... I can't really think of a generic term to give them, so it might be better to avoid labeling them all together.

I guess agender would suffice but honestly most of the time, things like this are flat out treated like a joke (in a few cases as actual traps). It's a bigger problem with Japanese culture, where they don't take things such as gender identity or sexuality seriously.

They exist as a certain type of 'female' or whatever in anime, so I don't see what's wrong with complaining about that particular type of female. I wouldn't say it's any different than complaining about a kuudere or yandere. It is a sort of fetish and writers/directors feed into it. I can't blame NaDannMaGoGo for complaining about it as I don't really find it enjoyable or entertaining to watch either.

Today, June 5th(still in the west anyway), is the birthday of member Hitokage.
Unfortunately he passed away rather suddenly last year. I realize he won't be able to respond to this message then but I'd still like to say Happy Birthday anyway.

For today at least, I thought it would be nice to reflect on the good memories he contributed to the thread rather than any possible bad memories or dwelling on the fact that he isn't here.

With that then, I'd like to give a big thank you to Hitokage for being one of the first to really encourage people to watch the show Ojamajo Doremi. I finally got around to it this year and have been watching it over the past few months. Currently I'm just starting into its third season/series called Mo~tto! Ojamajo Doremi. Asuka seems like she'll be a fun new addition to the cast.

I'm really enjoying the show and liked it right from the beginning. If it carries on like it has, then I think it will secure its place as being not only one of my favorite Magical Girl shows but one of my favorite in general.

I can see some of the similarities to Sailor Moon in Doremi that Hitokage pointed out, such as how Doremi and her younger sister, Pop, have echoes of the personalities and relationship that Usagi and Chibiusa had.

Sure, the shows not perfect and has some little quirks one can point out. As Hitokage himself mentioned some of the general premises of the show, such as in Sharp where you have fourth graders taking care of a baby, might seem a bit silly but they still execute on those ideas rather well overall. It's also nice that the show at least attempts to explore these more serious ideas such as the difficulty of raising a child, or one main characters family dealing with a divorce.

I see quite a few others in the thread have been watching and enjoying the show as well and I'm sure that would make him happy.

In PMs we talked about how I hadn't completed Super Mario Brothers 3 yet but I was so close and should give it another go. Just a few days ago I did complete the game and how I wanted, by going through every level of every world and not using any warps or items like the P-Wing. Unfortunately we can't talk about it more but I still wanted to give a quick "Hey, I did it" as I originally planned.

Anyway, thanks again Hitokage for telling me about some great shows I didn't know about and some fun conversations about great shows that I did. :)

Great post. It was down to the impression posts by Hito and others in AnimeGAF that got me into watching Ojamajo Doremi, which ended up being one of my all time favourites and is the one series I try to recommend to people as much as possible. I'm always happy to see people watching it for their first time and seeing them finding out how good that show really is.

Love these two pics.

If just taken out of context ( red face and al) that Iroha pic is really funny and misleading.

That Yuki pic though. You don't get many, if any, like that. That smile and those eyes....

Trap is hardly accurate either by the same measure.

I guess in that case "androgynous" would be more accurate, even if it didn't fully capture the trope for characters like Totsuka or Ruka or Hideyoshi.

I'm... kind of regretting bringing this up now because I wasn't really hoping for this semantic debate, but I'd rather avoid using the term in that way.

No bro. Yukino might have a thing for Hachiman but does Hikki see her like that? He admires and idolizes her but thats different from having romantic feelings towards her. I hold dual citizenship in TeamIroha and TeamYui so either of those two would be ideal, especially Yui.

Just anyone but Yukino please. Even that crazy fujoshi over her. Please based Watari please.

I will support Yui until the bitter end.

Yo this is dope

Japanese sounds great over hip hop instrumentals.

Snafu S2 10

3 min in and I have to stop it... am I the only one that gets flushed watching this? I don't know exactly why but it feels so intense at times. (maybe it´s just me).

Iroha has that effect on people.

It's juvenile Japanese shit that I wish Japanese animators/writers would get over and either seriously address or not bother at all. It is making light of certain people.

I do understand it's a crappy word for actual real life transgendered individuals but it's such a 'trope' in anime, in how it's portrayed and dealt with, that I can't see myself getting upset over the actual nomenclature (for the medium).

That's what I'm thinking. Hachiman just doesn't seem attracted to Yukino in the romantic sense. He admires her as a person and the character she's built up by herself. Maybe that'll change in the coming episodes.

Yes.

Sorry, I added the spoiler text a couple mins ago, but:
Hiki's acceptance of what his sister was trying to do by escorting her home, being touched on the train and accepting it, then the "Hachi" positive response to Yuki comments

Yeah, it looks like it's in the back of her mind now as well. Plus, he seams annoyed by Yui, like constantly now, even unconsciously.

I have been in camp Yui the whole time knowing she was not going to win, but I think the writing is on the wall now..

How far ahead is the LN for the show? Have they announced or mentioned an S3 at all?

Haru is so lucky to be waking up to a sleepy Ichijo. Loved it.

Also liked both of these adaptations, pool one was funny and this was sweet because Ichijo can be so caring.

Well, it is more people have been banned for such word usage in the past.

I sure hope not. Yukino is definitely relying more on Hachiman now though I dont feel he's starting to develop romantic feelings for her. That interaction in the amusement park reminded me of the one Yukino had with Yui in S1 ep. 10 where she reached out to her and told her that she cant rely on her yet but someday she will. Hachiman will always be there for Yukino when she needs his help but I think thats different from developing feelings.

Where do you see that he's getting annoyed with her? If anything, they're closer than ever. During that hand puppet scene last episode, Hachiman basically asked her out on a date to the newer, quieter amusement park and that they'd go together "someday". He remembered that Yui said that she wont wait and would be making the first move. He didnt forget about their honey toast "date".

My understanding was that idiots were using it to describe actual transgendered people.

I don't think there is a good replacement word for the trope in English. I don't know how Japanese individuals describe it.

The word isn't being used in an offensive matter at all here ^ They are saying it is a "trap" because he is not transgendered, he is a boy that looks like a girl and is very soft mannered, making him seem like he acts like a girl too. I'm pretty sure that this is why he called him that, and not to be offensive towards anyone. I don't think it is ban worthy at all

Not in this context, but elsewhere on the site.

Bit of a gray area no one feels like clarifying I guess.

Yeah, it's best to find another word. One less offensive and not likely to trigger a wave of bans.

I've heard the word otokonoko used for these kinds of characters in anime and manga, but I don't know if there are any others.
