Spring Anime 2015 |OT2| Euriphonium

I'm going to eat lunch and smoke a butt before it's bunker time.... It's getting close now and I'm getting excited to watch the fallout. Man, I can;t wait to watch this whole series myself, lol.

The first Euphonium novel was a good breath of fresh air (pun intended) for me. Takeda's depth in novel-writing really helped capture the real essence of playing in a concert band, especially for an instrument that doesn't get a lot of focus. I feel the anime adaptation has done a great job adapting the story to a longer, visual format. There are a lot of previous band members that work at the studio and they utilized a lot of resources to show the instruments and playing styles as best they could (and Takahashi loves his instrument porn).

The series has also reminded me of how important it is to watch a show for yourself and to tune out the noise elsewhere. As someone who read the novels and chose deliberately not to spoil anything, it was annoying to see people take fragments and create their own illusion of a story in contrast to what Takeda wrote. Similar to SAO, just watch it for itself and not what others have created.

I'm just fucking around. I couldn't not do it :p

Sound Euphonium 10

This was a really good episode. The tension was palpable. You could tell sensei was losing control during the scene when everyone was packing up.
His decision to hold second auditions was a great way to relieve suspicions.

Oh, also Reina finally came out.

Sound! Euphonium 10

That's the thing. Being tough for competitions may be one thing (I do wonder what the series might have been like in another timeline, had they decided to play for fun), but you have to actually listen to your students, too. And as expected with Asuka, those who put on the most fun-loving mask are usually hiding something underneath. This is why I like Hazuki and Sapphire the best - their newness to this whole band thing makes for some genuine joy. But with the competition coming up, it doesn't look like they're going to get a ton of focus.

Sapphire has played contrabass for a while. Her newness is more to a co-ed experience rather than a band. (There is a short in the 4th volume where the group mentions that her previous interactions with guys were from shojo manga instead of reality.) Hazuki is the only one of the group who is a true beginner.
Natsuki just started last year. More is addressed about her in the second novel.

Adding a bit more, Takuya Yamamura has really impressed me as of late as an episode director/storyboarder. His layouts/angles bring a lot of variety to shots where others would be more still/regular. He kinda reminds me a lot of Sakamoto's direction before he left. Another good Do episode, and it feels like they had more time in this episode rather than their prior two (ep 3 and 6 had about double the key animators this had). Utsumi is definitely the top director at Do, but Yamamura is really challenging her as of late.

And fuck Hanada. Is it that hard to keep how people address each other from the novel? It irrationally annoys me to keep hearing "Oumae-chan" when it's all "Kumiko" or "Kumiko-chan" in the novel. A giant fuck you to re-writing over that aspect.

Oh trust me, I like a lot of thing peeps here hate, so I have no problem judging for myself. My only concern with watching thsi series has been how deep it digs into band culture and how technical it gets. since I have never been in band, or had any interest in it. I mean, s series like Your Lie in April are very music heavy, however, there is a much bigger and better story behind it to keep you capitvated and not get lost in the technical term of playing a piano. Does Sound! Euphonium do the same thing?

LOL, this is really funny...

Just watched the first episode of Sound! Euphonium, dat K-On character-for-character design, can't handle it; literally mini-Ritsu and mini-Tsumugi

Euphonium definitely has a lot of depth in concert band and instruments, but it's very open to newcomers. It's got drama and story that anyone could appreciate, but musicians would enjoy a little aspect differently. For example, if you're an expert at a sport and you see a show execute a play perfectly natural, you'd appreciate that more than someone who doesn't know it, but knows how it fits in the story. It's a nice touch, but not essential to the enjoyment of the series.

The problem Euphonium has is that people focus on things it's not. It's not K-On!. It's not Sakura Trick. It's Euphonium. It's its own series.

I admire Asuka's stance on the band drama. It's basically how I feel about the whole "euriphonium". Don't say I didn't tell you so, go focus on something else now.

What did they do to the opening and closing in S2? Holy crap, they went chibli....

Also, the fanservice is gone, lol, WTF? Talk about changes...

Why would they change everythign so much, I mean now they eve use ink bl;otches to cover nipples...
Ink wouldn't be so problematic if the image filter wasn't so dark ... You really can't see sh*t half the time.

Hahaha! Just one step closer to Kumiko x Tiny Cactus!

Seriously though I've enjoyed Euphonium on its own merits without comparing it to K-on or anything else like that (also I've never seen that series either). I also don't know anything about band or playing an instrument, so I can't see all the details about that. All that said I love the characters, their dynamics and the funny moments.

It's...a intresting mix to be honest. Also with such a vague wording, pretty much anything could be blacklisted in the Future.

What do you think?

And some people said i'm a lie about Euphonium have romance, huh.

But you know, it's still pretty nice show, why don't just open your mind and enjoy it(if you already enjoying the show).

Sound! Euphonium Episode 10:

You really thought they would give up the game at a random episode? No, that saga doesn't conclude until the final episode and I will flay this show for that in its due course. No, today, I am going to express reservations over a sub-plot that has always been there but now has been thrown into sharp relief.
It turns out Reina actually carries a strong torch, a deep torch for Taki and if this goes down the serious route, well then, fuck this show 13 ways to Sunday for trying to pass me a romance between a high schooler and an adult.
Right, there is something else I want to talk about today, something that I have been meaning to bring up but have not gotten around to until now. I want to correct a mistake made about this program, this isn't just a show about a concert band. This is a show about High School and I mean more than usual this is a show about High Schoolers and all of the little concerns, joys, problems and cliques that come with that designation. It is actually quite the brilliant turn as it means the concern band doesn't exist in a vacuum and is actually affected by outside events. The down side is it reminds me of how petty, petulant and pointless a lot of High School actually was and I get bored by its inherent tedium at points. Anyway, not the final curtain call on anything by any means, so we have more time before the riots start.

What kind of riot? if it's about romance thing, and if kyoani keep the faith adaption in last few episodes, i guess there will be...1 little romance part make yuri fans riot again? just maybe, should be in last episode if that gonna happen.

As I read Shard's post I imagined dark clouds gathering, cooler wind blowing and how quiet the world gets right before a bad thunderstorm starts.

Euphonium 10

And just like that the yuri non-sense gets shot down. Good stuff. It came at a price though, now there's a ton of drama going on with the band. By the way, the girl with the ribbon annoys the heck out of me.

I don't get how anyone expected yuri in a KyoAni show.

Lucky Star is probably the closest they've gotten. That or K-On, where Asuza thinks Yui is going to molest her in their hotel room. :p

Sound! Euphonium 10

I think Asuka is secretly the final boss.

And did you all not think that Kousaka had feelings for sensei? I thought that was pretty obvious from the start. I never thought there was a chance for it to actually happen outside teasing because they never went full BL in Free and that had twice the episodes.

I'm struggling to think how Inferno Cop of all things is ban worthy

Skeletons are banned in China.

People thought there was going to be yuri because Koyto offered up a big slice of yuri bait in Episode 8 and people took the bait, this show does not get to walk away from that.

Just a reminder that high school actually sucks. I honestly don't understand why anime romanticizes it.

Another reason why Lucky Star OVA is p good.

Looks like the yuri dream is dead I guess. Maybe next time, right? At least Euphonium is still a great looking show about band, so I'll look forward to that aspect when I decide to watch, plus the totally cute girls!
