Square Enix: FFXV shipments + digital sales top 5 million worldwide

Some of you guys are setting yourself up for disappointment regarding FF7r sales. I have seen multiple claims of that game breaking 10M sales. Square Enix's The Hobbitization of the original game's source material might hit 10M if you add the sales of all three(?) parts together.

It really depends on what FFVIIr actually is. It's to early to predict either way tbh, but I'm also leaning towards your opinion. Hopefully will get some more definitive information soon now that XV is out.

FF7 is one of the milestones of the video game industry and one of the most beloved games of all time. While I won't make any bets on how it will sell I still think it will be A LOT, split into multiple parts or not. I think Square will market it as three FULL games to the three discs of the original, not as an episodic experience, even though the games likely won't line up with the discs. That will make it a little easier to accept I think.

Of course they could easily fuck it up, but I am crossing my fingers that SE knows what they are doing with this.

Just wondering, cause I have no clue.

Says it's around 200m cost, would that include the, what I'm guessing is a very expensive movie to produce?

The retail sales aren't apples to apples either. Square-Enix never bothered releasing Final Fantasy XIII on PSN.

All of the estimates I have seen have put digital sales of big releases somewhere between 20-30% on PS4/XB1 (less in Japan).

Most big games seem to be getting 30+ % digital early on at least. EA was saying digital sales are even higher now than earlier this year, so honestly who knows anymore.

It's hard for good remakes to top their originals if the originals were blockbuster sellers. I'm not totally convinced this will be a good remake. They are adding new story content, and we've already seen how that went with pretty much everything related to Final Fantasy VII that wasn't the original game. Nomura is not going to magically become a good storyteller with this title.

Ocarina of Time 3D was an excellent remake, and that managed about 2/3rds of the original's sales.

Let's hope the shipment actually clears through and we won't see day one editions on shelves like I still do for DQH and other SE titles over a year later...

If they can sell through and somehow hit 6-7 WW this would be a huge success for them.

Great job Square!

Also, I think VII Remake is going to sell gangbusters. Minimum of 8 million copies for Remake. Mark that down.

Imo, more than the story they need to nail the gameplay to entice new audiences.

If they just tighten down the framework they built in FFXV they're good to go. It's already really great.
I agree, but with the way the Versus XIII/XV development went, I doubt the VIIr director agrees :p. I do hope we get more games using the general XV framewoek though.

For comparison sell-in LTD of previous Final Fantasy games provided by Square Enix to CESA (in million of units):

Figures marked as "updated as 2014" are rounded to nearest 100K, the other ones to 10K.

So FFXIII sell more than 7M counting PC? That's a good number no matter how you spin it.

How many to they need to sell in order to make their money back?

About 15 million at least?
This is what we know
Speaking of Final Fantasy XV‘s budget, Tabata refuted claims of the title being one of the most expensive games being made. He revealed that Square Enix has a tight control over its budgets, and that Final Fantasy XV‘s budget is nowhere close to the likes of Destiny or Grand Theft Auto V cost-wise.

Interesting but I don't believe that.

They also said they delayed the game to put as much on disc for launch. That was a compete lie
Why does he have to lie. And how did they lie about putting as much on the disc. Take a look at August build Nd than take a look at the build before the patch

There sure is an awful lot of claims of over shipping even though we don't have sales numbers from a single region yet.

Solid start. Legs will be interesting to watch on it for sure.

Put the disc in and find out for yourself. Wait an hour for it to install too. It was a lie to delay the game again.

Anyways interesting to see the legs on this. I am loving the game so far

Believe what you want lol, Square Enix is a publicly traded company, I'm sure their share holders will not be happy when theu find out that the game director has been lying about a game production cost.

Yeah. I'm confused here. There's clearly a big difference between the "master build" and the launch build.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
These are shipment figures, not sell-through numbers.

Please be advised that the series has always had healthy game shipments to stores when launched.

It's the same shipment figure that XIII achieved when launched in their respective territories (cumulative figure as they all had separate release dates - 3 million Europe & Americas, 2 million Japan).

Would be surprised if this game doesn't sell more than XIII world wide, it's way better, word of mouth would probably give it more legs in the long run. Even with the state of console gaming in Japan.

I have very serious doubts about FF7R being the game I want it to be (I expect it to be a huge tonal misappropriation, and am not entirely sold on the action combat), but I don't doubt for a minute that it will sell very well, because there's 10 million idiots like me out there who will buy it anyways.

In any case, I hope FFXV's sellthrough is good. The game is real neat.
