Star Citizen Pre-Alpha: Hangar Module

I'm sure this pissed a lot of people off who bought it during the sale, too bad because I liked the pointy end better. Now it looks like a space fish

Whalesquid.

I like it, the reverse look made a merchant ship seem too much like some kind of death-combat-monstrosity.

This makes it look plenty alien and interesting. I still not sure if I want it or the Starfarer for my first dedicated merchant ship in game, but it's definitely in the running.

Space fish, Whalesquid, so sounds like appropriate names for an alien called call the BANU.

Where is the proof that it's the behind? The main trust certainly seems to come from the non-pointed side, evidenced by the blue light. Unless it has special backwards trusting alien tech.

it was answered by Ben in a customer service ticket. its on the offical forums. too lazy to post it up.

EDIT one sec, now its being said that the first response by Ben was a misunderstanding. I dont know if its a troll, lemme go check, now i'm not sure which end it is anymore.

that was the original info. Now there seems to be some contradicting info though, so who really knows LOL.

I like this though:

Feels much more like a merchant ship/flying sea whale kind of ship to me, which has much more style than the "battlecruiser no actually merchantship" look

Ah, well, it doesn't matter in space anyway. If you accelarate to a certain speed you can use side trusters to turn your ship and still fly in the same direction.

Then you can't see where you're going though :lol

Did anyone here interpret it correctly the first time around?

I thought the nose looked way too narrow and other details didn't really make sense, but I didn't think to look at it the other way around, lol.

As promised, I've spoken with Chris Olivia, who confirms that the elongated end (on the right of the picture) is intended as the front of the ship.

I have to admit, I'm a bit letdown. Space Whale > Generic Battlecruiser design. :(

(Mars Attacks)

Should be interesting to see how this one plays out. I think I like the spacefish approach better. Weird to have one of the most badass looking ships in the game be a merchant.

imagine how god tier Banu warships will be.

MrBig, are you going to do the thread for the dogfighting module as well? The OP for this one was great.

Yeah I'll probably do the OPs for all the major SC releases if possible. I'll be studying for exams/final papers/projects the next couple weeks so I won't have the time or will to make a new OP for the dogfighting releases, I'll just modify this one.

So, latest newsletter mentions that Organisations are live starting to be set up on the site: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13418-All-About-Organizations

Is anyone setting up GAF? Which option do we take?

Organization Types

On launch, you will be able to select a type for your organization. This defines the groups overall goal. We’ve divided organizations into five archtypes:

Corporation – a for-profit business entity. A corporation is a great choice for everything from shipping flo-pets to Goss II to organizing a hostile takeover of Origin Jumpworks.
PMC (Private Military Company) – For organizations with a taste for combat. Focuses for PMCs include escorting cargo runs, hunting for pirates or helping the UEE take on the Vanduul.
Faith – Organizations that have come together for a single cause or under a single banner. This could be rebels fighting for Terran independence… or the devout followers of the LAMP!
Syndicate – Common interest groups for those who operate on the edges (or outside) the law. There’s safety in numbers when you’re moving contraband through Spider or preying on hapless cargo ships.
Organization – Want to make your own way without any previous association? Feel free to leave your group’s archetype blank!

Archetypes are a roleplaying element and do not impact the actual functioning of the organization; you’ll still be free to organize your group as you wish regardless of which type you choose.

I'll set up a google docs form for sharing handles/nicks in SC outside of orgs for sure. If no one wants to make a guild I might grab the NeoGAF organization ID to keep any squatters off it and can give admin to anyone that wants to support it later, but I probably wouldn't lead an org myself.

So... Can we own planets? If the UEE is gonna model the collapse of the Roman Empire, humanity's territories are
probably going to degrade into Petty Kingdoms, ala Medieval Europe
and in the "east"
The Terran Empire will probably be a stand in for Byzantium

Good idea.

Most important thing in that newsletter update is that you can now apply upgrades to your packages so that you can see the upgraded versions in your hangar. Finally getting my hands on my Aurora LX =P

From what I understand, they are only using the Roman Republic/Empire as the basis for the setting, and will not be following its actual course in specifics.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
They made 34 million just now

Reminder for what we're getting:

MISC Hull C (Discreet) – Scaling from small “box trucks” to massive supertankers, the MISC range of cargo hulls (A-D) are the standard goods transporter in human space. Extremely configurable, MISC Hulls can be adapted for most any type of transport job: from standard bulk shipping on the patrolled spacelanes to armored cargo hauling on the frontier. While these pre-configured hulls are primarily used for legitimate purposes, the MISC Hull Cs have recently become the favorite for criminals who modify the ship with advanced sensor shadow technology, quick-decompress holds and a variety of hidden compartments without modifying the ship’s body so it will appear to onlookers as standard everyday transports.

Smuggler Cargo modifier!

Now........... what's next. :p

The black-hole system!

Tamsa System – Located near the fringe of Banu space, Tamsa System features a massive central star that has collapsed into a black hole. Evidence suggests that there were at least two more planets in the system when the star collapsed before the ensuing black hole engulfed them. Only two planets remain in the system, a chthonian world and a gas giant located far from the black hole’s event horizon. Initial surveys indicate that the two outer planets are slowly being pulled towards the black hole, leaving the two as a risky proposition at best for any sort of colonization.

haven't kept up in a few months but I was an original backer when it was still being kickstarted.

But i bought the freelancer ship package and was just wondering if they have announced a commercial/document for it yet? or new models or whatever. Any dates or anything for this guy yet?

Thanks.

Not yet, but check the OP for all the released ship commercials to see if you missed any others

There will be a couple variants of the Freelancer released, but they are still working on them, as far as I know there is no date announced.

I wonder how many people melted their Merchantman ship because of the whale thing only to find out that the long end is the front end? Double rage.

is if they hated the look and the back was the front all along, it would been smart to just resell on the grey market. once you melt it, you can use the money to buy any LTI ships anymore anyways.

Yeah, the Star Citizen ads were much more fetishistic and knowing, while the Titanfall ones felt like... well, a copy of an idea.

So if I spend the bare minimum (40$) for alpha, beta, game access... what are my chances of not spending another dime (real money) on other ships, weapons, etc.? What do we know of the in game economy and how much is going to be monetized and what not?

Ships and such wont be monetized at launch, ships now are a reward for donating early, you get them at the start but you wont necessarily always be able to keep them in your possession in game or want to continue using them.

You will be able to purchase (the primary) in-game currency with money, but it is artificially capped and intended to be used by people who want to achieve certain things with credits but don't have a lot of time to spend. Personally I'm fine with this set up, if the game is actually fun to play then you'll just play the game, but if you're "grinding" to get credits just to be able to play the game in a fun manner (or trap yourself in to thinking that gaining a lot of funbucks is really important) then it's probably not a good game...
