Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Reviews Thread

Its good to hear that LucasArts still has a dev team. I visited the San Rafael office a few years ago when they put me in KOTOR II. They seemed like a great bunch of people. I may still check out The Force Unleashed, especially since Toys R Us is offering a $20 gift card with purchase tomorrow...

Does that gift card come with the Wii version?

EDIT: Nm, it's only for the PS3/360 versions. :(

Thanks for the heads up. I was actually going to buy some Star Wars LEGO at TRU this week, so this effectively lowers the price of the game to $40 for me.

Why in the world I preorder anything, let alone at GameStop, is beyond me. This will be the second time I cancel a preorder from them in as many months.

Yeah, seriously. I always pre-order my games and then end up cancelling the pre-order at the last minute because someone has a WAAAAAAY better offer on release date. Retailers are going to have to work much harder at convincing us to give them an interest free loan (pre-ordering) when this stuff happens all the time.

Wipeout HD on the 25th was the nail in the coffin for this game for me. The reviews are too low, and now I'll have something better for a third of the cost to occupy my time. Maybe when it hits the bargain bin, it's a shame, because it looked like it had so much potential.

The review scores are just what I was expecting. Mid 7s. And I didn't really find the demo that great. But with the $20 giftcard at Toys r us, I think I'll pick it up. That $20 GC will go nicely with Hells Highway next week. :D

the demo screamed rental at best and the reviews have fallen in line.

gamefly to the rescue!

wonder how many achievements you can get in just one playthrough?

PSP 7.5
PS2 7.2

Thats interesting, wonder what the .3 difference is.

I mean having seen the Wii and PS2 versions up close (and the PS2 and PSP are all ports of the Wii build) I would imagine that being able to take the game portable and having the screen be smaller would be enough to give it a boost over the PS2.

KROME did a great job in building the game for the less capable systems, the Wii and PS2 versions move fast and fluid. Of course the graphics are nowhere near the league of the 360/PS3 but I personally think they did a great job.

Given the release schedules for most big games this fall being so close together, I may be in the same situation. There are six to eight games shipping from October to December that I have an interest in, but realistically, I'll only be playing one or two of them, and burning money on the rest only to see them sit on the shelf until January, something I did a lot last year, is not something I want to repeat.

I hate you and everyone like you. :P

Aw, what a racist.

Ooh, I got a free action figure with my pre-order! Packaging has a little SWFTU logo on the side, but it looks like a normal figure. Hopefully, I'll sell it on eBay to some rabid collector in a few months.

Theres a PC version confirmed, also, i don't know why are people so surprised about the score, this looked like Assassin's Creed since the beginning: All of the tech, none of the game.

I thought I had read the PC version was confirmed, just could not remember where.

Thats a good comparison to Assassins Creed, except I like this game a lot more than AC. AC bored me and got repetetive real fast (besides having a really trippy story), this one with the different ways to use the force does not get as bogged down in repetetive-ness.

Care to offer up some linkage proof of a "confirmed PC" version?

This is absolutely 100% incorrect. There are no plans to release a PC version of The Force Unleashed.

My bad, I just looked at that site and they edited the news with a confirmation that it isnt happening.

1UP just posted their review, Giancarlo gave it a C-.
If I like it as much as the last game I saw Giancarlo give a C- to, that'll be great.

edit: still can't believe there isn't an official thread, lol. Would've thought there'd be a few big Star Wars fan coming up to bat for that. I'm about ready to copy and paste the wikipedia article, throw in an MS Paint banner, and go. :P

Gonna go out on a limb and say Batman: Arkham Asylum and Ghostbusters: The Video game will get similar reviews.

Not sure if it's because people are still wowed by the graphics, have an attachment to these licensed franchises, or because previews are 80% PR pieces, 20% criticism, but they seem to fall for it all the time.

The reviews seem dead on. The game felt very linear with paint by numbers level design. The graphics aren't anything special.

Basically it seems like if you're not a Star Wars fan. Then there's absolutely no reason to buy it.

It's too bad the game doesn't seem that great. This thread reveals the many yearnings for a truly awesome Star Wars game...

Though it's gonna sell like Yaddle milk hotcakes regardless.

Can someone tell me why IGN scored the PSP version higher than any of the other versions?

PSP 7.5
PS360 7.3
PS2 7.2

http://psp.ign.com/articles/910/910029p1.html

When I went to read the review. I found that it was just the PS2 review, copy and pasted.

The PSP Versions contains additional content - Order 66 (Waves of Enemies), A mode where you go through several bosses like Luke Skywalker or Darth, Historic Missions which are extra levels through classic modes, and a 4 player Deathmatch mode different to that of the Wii game.

Man, i would love Order 66 mode on 360

Ugh, I will probably end up buying this just for the story. I thought I would be getting the 360 version, but I re-downloaded both demos and the PS3 version just runs smoother for me. Is that everyone else's experience or is my 360 acting up?

I'd give it in the range of 5-7 from what I played in the demo. Might rent, and further down the line when I don't have anything to play and this is sitting there used for under 20 I might buy.

I honestly thought the PS3 version did SEEM smoother....but as I said, texture wise, the 360 gets the edge

If I was going simply by the 360 demo I played, these would be about the reviews I'd expect. The whole thing just felt like Ninja Gaiden 2 Lite with Force powers. It was fun in bits, but I can see it getting about as tiring as quickly as an old-school beat-em-up game.

Certainly pretty, though.

You know... they should really do some games based on the novels after RotJ... as long as they don't fuck it up...
