Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Reviews Thread

Absolutely

I mean, do you have a 360 and a PS3? ...if so, try both versions for yourself

But yes, it IS that big of a difference

Hmmm, I only downloaded the demo on the 360 and I can't be arsed to download it again for the PS3. Besides, I'm at work right now and intend to pick it up on my way home today.

I guess, it's going to be the PS3 version for me.

Just to confirm, the graphical differences between the 360 and PS3 versions are relatively minor in comparison to the audio differences right?

Are there any performance issues?

Was looking forward to this, but after playing the demo and seeing the reviews (the consensus seems to be a giant MEH) I'll have to pass.

I prefer to see it as another victory for waggle.

I would like to agree with you, but this doesn't look like it's doing anything super creative with the Wiimote. This game could have potentially blown away the rest of the pack if Krome had taken it seriously and not waggle-fied the PS2 game.

It's odd that Andrew Reiner of Gameinformer, long-time video game critic, awarded the title a generous 8.75/10.

I have yet to read the actual review, but...

Please, don't get me wrong. I doubt that this game pushes waggle into new, creative territory. I am only commenting on the fact that the review scores suggest that waggle trumps HD/physics.

For this version did anyone really expect anything different? I thought this was pretty obvious the moment we found out that this was a port up of the PS2 version. Not saying the game is bad (my copy is on the way), but to even expect anything different is a little silly in my opinion.

- Performance wise, they're identical

- Visually, 360 gets the edge due to some better, more detailed textures

- Aurally, PS3 trumps the 360 due to DTS inclusion

Which is why I said earlier I didn't expect much. Doesn't mean I wouldn't have wanted to be surprised; I was really hoping this game would be something great and not another mediocre Star Wars cash-in.

Now to see if my sneaking suspicion that Clone Wars will be the overall better Star Wars game this year comes to fruition.

Cue some idiot saying "But Clone Wars is a fighting game" and being completely oblivious to what my last statement meant.

I think that much is guaranteed, since the game was built from the ground up on Wii there have been a lot of compliments about the graphic and speed of the game as well as the controls.

I planned on making this a rental a while back, due to the jam-packed Fall. From the impressions, seems like it's the right way to go anyway.

In other words, the ones to get is Wii & PSP.

Or just that different people reviewed the different version of the games and don't have the same standards. Although it is a better buy for Wii or PSP only people out there since those systems don't really have a lot of other action games of this sort. But yeah, '# = # > # < #'.

He's a Star Wars fan so I'm not surprised. I'm a SW fan to. But once I got glasses I wasn't blind anymore to the shittyness that can be Star Wars.

The cutscenes still should have been pre-rendered, having them use the in game engine just makes them look unpolished (the game moves very fast the cutscenes do not so you notice the disparity more)

Levels are completely different, and stuff like Kashyyyk being at night on Wii while on 360 its during the day, and the Wii version has completely new levels and characters you won't see elsewhere.

It would not make sense to make them pre-rendered.

I also noticed that a few PSP reviews have cited that you can't move the camera at all. Not true! You can press down on the D-Pad to re-center the camera at any time.

Most reports seem to give off the notion that there's really no challenge to speak of, as well as the game being short. Since if you die, you just respawn close to where you bit it, and everyone you already killed stays that way. Not to mention that you basically become a steamroller relatively early on and the AI is stupid.
The weird thing being that, in the demo, enemies do respawn when you die and restart from a checkpoint. The checkpoint is just an autosave, so you can't just die your way through the game. How did they screw this up?

I was kinda thinking about getting unleashed.. these reviews are discouraging, so I think I'll wait until its $20 or something.

Man, I was even interested in TFU. And I'm not a big Star Wars fan. I really liked the idea of using the Force, reminded me of things like Second Sight in terms of gameplay and power. Still getting it down the road on Wii when it's like € 10.

After Too Human, I have learned to stop listening to everyone else and try games for myself. Next to Oblivion on the 360, I haven't poured more time in a game than Too Human. I have logged 140 hours in Too Human (and it only has 4 levels). I say that to say this. I picked up Force Unleashed yesterday, and I having a great time with it. Every game will have flaws, and every game is repetitive in its own way.

On the flip side, I really enjoyed Too Human, but I find Force Unleashed to be the opposite of enjoyable. So that's not a surefire comparison.

And I found Too Human to be completely unenjoyable, whereas I am really enjoying The Force Unleashed. So its really determined where your priorities are and what you can and cant stand.

The Wii version actually got higher reviews? Who would've thought? Looks like it's a decent action game for Wii then. I'll grab it.

Is StarWars TFU for Wii the firt real prove that so called hardcore-games sell on Wii?

I even believe that this question deserves an own thread.

It's actually lower (a bit) on gamerankings than the 360/PS3 so that's a bit of an overstatement, but it seems like it wasn't the forgotten about leftovers many Wii ports are.

This happens in the full game too, if you clear an area get to a new checkpoint and traverse back through the level you will get repops of enemies even on the regular difficulty settings. However not EVERY enemy and area repopulates. Course I can't speak for the Wii or PS2 version, I'm only on the 360.

Funny thing about the checkpoint issue, on the fungus forest type level. Where it says you can kill 4 Rancors, I would usually end up killing one and then the next one would kill me. I died, restarted in that area with the Rancor alive again, I'd kill it as well but then it would count that as the second killed Rancor. Oh well worked in my favor! :D

the demo screamed rental at best and the reviews have fallen in line.

gamefly to the rescue!

wonder how many achievements you can get in just one playthrough?

Depends on how meticulous you are when playing through. I tried but not too hard to get the holo's and some of the move achievements and ended up with about 500 achievement points when I finished the game.

I'm assuming if you very aware of what the achievements are and how to get them you could get majority of them on a first play through.

Yeah, all Force Points are cumulative, as well, even on separate playthroughs of a level on the same save. So if you want that 600,000 Force Points achievement but only got 500,000 points, just jump back into that mission and get 100,000 more.

Yup does this for the achievement kills as well.

Just beat it on Sith Lord. Very challenging; I doubt I'll be going for Sith Master.

I decided to choose the Apprentice difficulty and play around a bit to
get the second ending
. I swear, the thing is so easy I ended up :lol @during the fights.

Unless that's something they added in the easier difficulties, didn't experience that at all. I mean, if I killed someone prior to the checkpoint they stay dead; but not if I killed someone after the checkpoint - died - and respawned. Still have to fight them. Man, I would have beaten the game days hours ago if it was like that. :lol
