And they've stated many times up until this point that there would be one. Luckily I have release day delivery from Amazon, but a lot of people don't, especially overseas. They might get it on the 27th, ouch.

By the way there is no grace period. If you don't have you serial key on the 20th you won't be able to play until you get it.

Source? I thought it was confirmed awhile ago that there would be a grace period of like 5 days. Jesus.

Maybe you're new to the MMO space, but every second counts at launch. With these style of MMOs it's completely cut-throat and any time not in the game gives everyone else an advantage, particularly in PvP and the economy. Since this isn't a skill based game, time is everything. Also, you want to get as far away from the starting areas otherwise you're going to be bogged down by tons of people.

Yeah, except this isn't really true. Sure, perhaps for the first week it "matters", but in the long run, it's inconsequential. I haven't played any MMOs where it's as cutthroat as you suggest - which did you have in mind specifically? I agree that you want to get out of the starting areas asap (although really only WoW handled this poorly), but it won't matter because the launch is staggered.

LOL! Wow Bioware....not one single MMO has done this that I can even think of, EVERY damn MMO has a grace period of at least 5 days. Some people won't be getting the game till the 22nd. Clusterfuck.

Ah, I don't remember any MMO that let you play early either. Not being rhetorical if you do know one. WoW certainly doesn't.

Can't give grace periods when they don't give early release.

Not being able to play for a few hours or so when I have the game for a full week beforehand isn't that big of a deal on my end.

I preordered the DDE the first 10 minutes that preorders opened up before I changed my mind to a physical CE from a Gamestop the next morning. Origin support were real bros about it too when I explained it to them, giving me an easy refund. The SWTOR site even let me register the CE code after I had registered the DDE code, switching it over.

Well, this is not what I expected. They aren't e-mailing people until the day that they have Early Access apparently. And no grace period.

I hope that my delivery service doesn't fuck up on the 20th - I've had it happen before.

I thought it hasn't been confirmed one way or the other yet... there were posts about it on the TOR forums just today asking for confirmation either way. That would suck tho.

It's on their FAQ: http://www.swtor.com/preorder/faq#305186

The Game officially launches on December 20th, 2011 at 12:01AM EST (Pacific: December 19th, 9:01PM PST; European: December 20th, 05:01AM GMT, 06:01AM CET). There will be no ‘grace period’ post launch in which those who are in Early Game Access will be able to continue to play the Game without completing the following required steps for launch:
1. Fill out your contact information
2. Set up minimum 3 - maximum 5 security questions to protect your SWTOR account
3. Redeem a Product Registration Code (This is different from your Pre-Order Code. Your Product Registration Code is the code tied to the official Game.)
4. Sign up for a recurring subscription or enter a Pre-Paid Game Time Code

Bunch of MMOs allowed early access. Most recent that I played myself was Aion.

Headstart is pretty irrelevant in an MMO, there's nothing cut throat about it at all, I have no idea what the hell you're going on about. Unless you're in some sponsored guild going after raid world firsts or whatever TOR has, that is.

I swear, some of you new generations of MMO players creep me the fuck out. Slow it down a notch so we don't have a lot of GOGOGOGOGOGOGO people who make you feel bad for reading descriptions or listening to dialogue in a dungeon.

Ok say you play with 3 other friends. They get 7 days early access, you get 1. Don't you think that would mess up the plan when they are all already playing and have 6 days head start on you? That's the only problem I see with it. (I won't be getting much time ahead myself /shrug)

Holy shit, it's a video game. It'll be OK. Trust me, been MMOing since Ultima Online. It's really not that big a deal.

I'm posting a reply to this on almost every page now, lol

There is no official word on a grace period at this point. The last Bioware rep on the SWTOR forums to come out and say there would be no grace period was corrected and said that "at this time we cannot provide information on the grace period we're offering" or something along those lines.

We should hopefully have an update by Friday on this.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Wow, no grace period?

I love you Amazon... I really, really do. But I'm not going to wait around all day on the 20th so UPS can deliver my damn CE at 9pm at night. No way.

Guess I'll be picking up that Best Buy pre-order, instead. Meh tax.

Aion, Vanguard, Warhammer Online, Rift, LoTRO, Age of Conan, etc.

I can't relate, if my friend I plan on duoing with got early access and I dont hed probably just make a seperate character to goof around with until I'm in. It IS a stupid system though, I'm not gonna argue with that, early access in general is a total sham but I mostly just hate the notion that MMOs are these cutthroat, rush the top affairs because it's such a pointless way to play them.

God damn, Early Access ends at 9:01PM PST on the 19th, so that means I'm going to get kicked out for an evening >.<

Really Bioware? We couldn't even get 24 hours grace period? Jesus christ.

I did read that they are allowing retailers to ship the game as soon as they get them, so chances are you'll get it beforehand. Pretty retarded to boot folks who aren't doing a midnight launch, but I guess they want to sell digital copies?

Pretty much what I was thinking. At least now I know who not to play with, wow.

Been wondering the same thing. I know I have my fingers crossed.

Ohhhh! I'd love Amazon to ship my copy next week. You'd hear no complaints from me! ;)

I assure you I'm not new to MMOs, my first MMO wasn't baby's first MMO either. Anyways the point is I'm all for playing at my own pace, I don't rush through any dialogue or anything of the sort, but it's very important to understand that if you intend to get into a good guild for endgame content there's no time to waste. I've been around the genre long enough to know what you need to do to be competitive so time is very important.

So now it seems Amazon won't be getting the game till the 20th. I checked my estimated delivery date and it's the 22nd despite me having one day shipping. Fuck you Bioware and EA.

The CE preorder codes are no different than the SE ones. They all give the same early access and color crystal. The actual game key is what gives you the CE stuff.

Yep. They said if you upgraded your edition to just apply the game key once you receive it and it will work fine. The pre-order codes are all the same.

My Amazon pre-order still says ETA Dec 20. :(
