I start grad school in the fall so I realllllly hope this doesn't launch in September!

At this point you could just reskin WoW with Star Wars and I'd tell you to hook it to my veins!

Recently the media and the major fan sites were allowed to play the first 5 hours of the game as the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular, as far as I know this is the first time that Bioware have allowed this long of a play session to the media.

Anyways, it's well worth checking out, there's some good coverage of the event here:

Listened to the spoilerific Torocast not long ago. Hearing about the Consular and the story almost makes me want to play that class. I hope that all of the classes have good starting stories, especially the Inquisitor.

It was fantastic to hear about how awesome the Consular sounds, especially since there were some concerns after the 'multiplayer preview' a few months ago. The storyline is sure great, and I have no doubt each class will have something just as 'epic' :D

Friday Update is up, it focuses on the design of Coruscant mostly, but there is a Q&A at the bottom that has some great info. It's nice to hear that players can level up and earn XP by doing just PVP if they want to, and it gives some more nice insight into how they are designing the game.

As noted in the recent Q&A and with what they have said before, all classes will have a fully unique story line to play through that will have players wanting to play multiple classes to see it all. As they have noted, they don't want the game to boil down to some quests with players just spending long periods of times grinding to just get to max level and to end game. Each class is supposed to provide a full Bioware RPG like experience throughout with unique stories, quests, companions, npcs, and dialogue. With the amount of money and work going into this game I would hope this all turns out true.

Any insights why Lucas gave up co-publishing rights?

To make it easier for the game to be marketed and such. Instead of two different groups pushing the game or having to work together and approve of everything, they are letting EA handle the games marketing. Lucasarts still has to approve of what EA does, but they are giving them more freedom to do as they need to promote the game. This is really EA's game and not Lucasarts, so it's best they let EA handle it.

A TOR beta tester has leaked some nice impressions about the game, certainly worth a read!

just as interesting he details all the crew skills available at the moment:

Treasure Hunter, Biochemist, Cybertech, Synthweaver, Bioanalyst, Archeologist, Researcher, Diplomat, Scavenger, Slicer, Artificer, Armstech, Armormech, Underworld Trader.

Now that's a scoop you won't find on the TOR fan sites which seem wary to upset Bioware by reporting these sort of leaks!

Have they still not confirmed whether or not Miraluka can be Consulars? This could be a bit of a dealbreaker for me, hilariously enough. (How exactly is it that the pseudo-blind people can't be the more pacifistic, non-melee-focused Jedi class?)

I think it would be silly as well if the Miraluka couldn't be Consulars. I mean, it would be the most logical choice!

Don't know if you saw Darth Hater's brief writeup about Miraluka's the other day:

Yeah, but it hasn't been confirmed and last I checked Bioware was being strangely cagey about it. After the whole Jedi Wizard silliness, I think we're all on edge for Small But Silly Shit, so if there's been any confirmation of it I'd like to be pointed in that direction. :x

We'll see in a few months either way, natch. All my friends and I are ridiculously pumped for this game (it's one of the ways we'll stay on touch after I move out to Oregon).

ugh. Not good, not good at all
that I still have to wait months for this game :(

the leak is interesting reading. I figured Coruscant would be done in the way it is due to the sheer complexity a city planet would have as one giant zone.

Nice to see there is some time involved when you send your puppets err companions on errands. Says 60 seconds it took for his puppet to return from selling junk.

Good read but my first thought was "so many ellipses" :)

Can't wait for this to come out, or get into the beta.

Nice find. Everything sounds good. This game is testing my patience (i have none :D ).

I wonder if space combat (what space combat there is...) is unplayable since i didn't see him commenting on it at all. Maybe i missed it.

Gamespot just posted a trailer entitled 'for the republic' about the Trooper Class. No new information, but a good trailer nonetheless:

http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/starwarstheoldrepublic/video/6285803/

We also have another beta leak, this time in the form of a screenshot confirming what seems to be the first example of player mounts in the game:

1222.png

This must be the low level mount, and it is interesting that it only increases speed by 35%, which probably lends credence to what other beta players are saying about everyone getting an ability to run fast as well.

Jennifer Hale!

Game continues to look awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'd never really thought about "mounts" should be interesting to see what different kinds there are. I wonder if there will be freeflying ones like WoW has for zones like Coruscant and the like.

I noticed something in the trooper video and a few others thats starting to bother me now. There seems to be an awful lot of reuse of moves across the classes. It seems like every class has an AOE throwback that works the exact same and looks practically the same etc.

See the same thing with the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior too with their moveset being practically identical in trailers and gameplay. I know in this case they are similar classes just on different sides of the force but too much cookie cutterness removes the fun of a class

More and more I read about this the more unprecedented in size and scope it seems to be. Bioware better deliver on all of it, though. What's the latest speculation on release? Holiday 2011 seems most likely, IMO, depending on how much they've really got done, however i could also easily see it being pushed back to later in the summer.

Spring 2011 is still the period they are saying. I anticipate June release though as its being said to miss the march 31st deadline to be in Q1

I know!

I just finished cutting the bread for my sandwich with my laser knife thinking I wish Star wars was more advanced, I then jumped in my spaceship and flew to the moon, oh thats no moon.... etc

I'm starting to really dig the art style of the game. Seems like they've really hit the sweet spot in what they're trying to achieve visually.

Visually the art style has come along nicely. Its still cartoony but has more realism in its style overall than others going for the cartoony angle.

Korriban looks great

Sith Inquisitor Zabrak chick looks really impressive too

This is the only MMO where I want to cap a character in every class.

Definitely. I never did that in other MMO's but since the majority of the quests are class specific and the classes themselves seem interesting i am planning for rerolling. Sith Warrior, Jedi Consular, Smuggler, Bounty Hunter. If the game is not total crap that is :lol

I definitely want to max all classes in this game, and will do so basically because I know I will enjoy the amazing storylines. Whilst it is crucial to have solid endgame, the fact I will have for the first time a real incentive to grind my alts will be nothing short of phenomenal!

markatisu said:
Is that meant to be a positive or negative?

Probably negative, the detail on it all looks 100x better than STO, from what i've read the missions are engaging and thoroughly enjoyable (everything that STO wasn't from launch, I haven't logged in on it in months)

It's part of the universe, with having majority of the galaxy charted, and alien species coexisting and sharing technology, the universe has come to a point where not many advances happen. Generally technology improves over the years, becomes efficient, etc, but few major breakthroughs really happen.
