Maybe because BioWare has been hyping them as a revolutionary and central aspect of the game? Ya think?

They weren't hyping the customization feature, they just recently put that in and it's obvious work in progress. The companion utility balance is also something that is obviously going to be undergoing constant updates, like any other MMO abilities, stats, etc, etc. This is something hopefully beta brings forth or they keep track of to improve the companions who aren't as good as the others.

I'm not even seeing the bitching. Seems fairly straightforward & I think most people get it. They put in the customization options for the first companions everyone gets, and didn't for the rest. You would have to assume that they will all get customization options, even ones that may never appear in the game testing phase since Bioware has a fairly large in house testing department.

No. It's completely obvious only one companion will EVER get customization for the end of time!

Some people...

And that's why I said the guy is an idiot. I am in the beta, which is why I can't say anymore, not because I don't know any more. ;)

Looks like same gender romances are coming to TOR after all.

Due to the design constraints of a fully voiced MMO of this scale and size, many choices had to be made as to the launch and post-launch feature set. Same gender romances with companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a post-launch feature. Because The Old Republic is an MMO, the game will live on through content expansions which allow us to include content and features that could not be included at launch, including the addition of more companion characters who will have additional romance options.

what really happened. some producer at bioware said some dumb shit at a trade show, then the main honchos all got together, yelled at said producer, and Reid gets to tell us the good news.

I honestly didn't see that coming.

Now we're going to hear "Bioware where's my gay Jedi lover you promised me!?!?!" for months/years on the forums. Reid made the mistake right here:

Same gender romances with companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a post-launch feature

which constitutes a promise and entitlement in internet terms. Perhaps folks who are looking for the feature deserve such a promise, but that's just about the biggest mistake you can make when talking to MMO players.

All that said, I would've loved for my female Jedi Consular to be able to have a relationship with Nadia. But it's cool, they can just be friends instead.

Too bad the romance stuff happens off-screen. It's a T-rated game. They just look slyly at each other and walk off screen.

Two members of the same gender looking at each other? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Well, this is a praiseworthy decision, but this is probably only going to please their core Bioware fanbase while pissing off a large portion of their general MMO and Star Wars fanbase.

I do think this is more positive news for those who would like it than it is negative news for those who wouldn't.

They better listen to fans or this will sink faster than the titanic. It's a good start.

It's a service, of course they're going to cater to their customers whims. Don't worry on that. I just hope they stick to their guns on a few things. let people get used to something instead of gutting when people speak out because it's not in their comfort zone.

Rather they do it that way after the lol fest that were the "sex" scenes in DA and ME

Well I think the feature bioware was hyping was that companions can fill rolls in groups not "look you can dress up your star wars dolls!"

I thought everybody said Lucas was a known homophobe? Or at least that he didn't want gay stuff in Star Wars at all......

So was it really all just a matter of not being able to fit in same gender romance during the dev cycle?

Pretty sure in the Star Wars universe there's just no name for it, or our name doesn't apply. That doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't exist. But yeah, pretty dodgy way of doing it.

It was a rep on a forum that made the comment of "gay" not existing in Star Wars. At least the concept or the use of such words.... at least that what it seemed like the guy was trying to convey...

That's a lot better than the awkwardly animated tripe in Dragon Age/Mass Effect.

Fox News reports that "New Star Wars online game promotes homosexual agenda, cross species copulation and terrorism". Players even get to murder story characters execution style as well as kill each other in something BioWare calls 'PvP'.

More probable edit. Light the torches!

Just got an email thanking me for the Labor Day weekend beta test, and telling me I will be invited back in the future after a new build gets pushed.

I'm excited. I liked what I got to play but went out of town for most of that weekend.

I got that too..
... Don't really feel like spending the bandwidth again this month to download a whole new build though =/

Well for me that's 30+GB on a 125GB cap, and I already expended that much at the beginning of the month <.<

Of course if this were to happen in October instead, there'd be no problem (my cap also goes up to 175GB).

I'm heading to Gamefest this weekend and the Old Republic will be there, hopefully the queue time won't be massive so I'll be able to have a hands on with the pvp. :D
