Not saying they won't. But mmo companies like posting amazing launch numbers. This strategy isn't the best in achieving that. Won't effect final sales, but launching it the week of Christmas is bad for consumers and employees.

With their digital pre-orders alone they're still have impressive launch day numbers. Anything else they'll just roll into being "launch window" numbers and will still be happy with.

I've worked retail the day after Christmas. It's INSANE. Now little Johnny will be spending his gift cards to get TOR. It's a brilliant strategy.

Well with Christmas, and the Steam holiday sale, I'll have enough of a backlog of games to get through, which would definitely interfere with that free month... So likely SWTOR at some point next year for me.

They've already made a fuss about limiting launch numbers. They might have been lying though to increase pre-orders.

I think the launch date is really weird. I'll probably be busy with other stuff and have a bunch of other games on my plate at that point, so I could see myself passing on TOR pretty easily.

Because the servers are world wide, and having everyone launch on one day without experiencing it before is absolutely the worst thing you can do on a launch day. Look at any MMO launch in the last 5 years, every single one has been greeted by full login servers, crashed servers etc etc. Better to stagger the launch so people can play.

Just before xmas is perfect, as long as EA have paid for tech support on the 25th. If they have, it allows them to make all the fixes they need to, while the added bonus of having the extra sales from students and such who can play.

People who are worried about christmas affecting sales or their time to play are silly. I spend christmas with my family, that gives me 4 days before christmas to play.

Even if you celebrate christmas 5 days is plenty of time ahead of time to release it. And if you dont celebrate it than its just a day. People are off work, school, whatever already so its a perfect time.

It's remarkable how they gave out their release date straight after Blizzards announcement that Diablo 3 is being pushed back.

No special setting, fan friday or nothing... Boom saturdaymorning mu'fuckas.. it's coming.

still no beta :( I just want to give it a try, mainly because I'm becoming super skeptical lately. I probably posted this here before but it's really getting to me. Anyone else feel this way? all the videos haven't been really impressing me lately and if it's too similar to wow I'm afraid I'll lose interest before the free month even ends.. having second thoughts here :(

Oh yeah. I just remembered I told people this would release right after SWGalaxies ends. Everyone said no way that it was going to be October, but I was right. :)

Actually, no. The last video was incredible. And I know enough about the game that i'm just psyched to play. Watched countless beta leaks already. I want this game!

I think the date is great. Far enough that it isn't in the clusterfck that is this fall, but not next year so win-win.

Haven't seen anything official at least and the Eurogamer expo is notorious for ejecting people from the centre if they are seen with camera's in areas where developers have stated no filming. Considering the enormity of the announcement you'd think someone would have bothered!

EU games are typically released on a Thursday, much like the magic restock on a Tuesday in the US.

This game is good and this game already has 1.2-1.7 Million pre orders and after the release date get announced the pre orders continue to rise :)
The pre orders do better in europa/usa then the last WoW Addon.

Preorders mean nothing, Age of Conan/WAR/Aion all had over 1 million box sales and look at them now. Player retention is everything, you could sell 2 million boxes in the first month but that doesn't mean anything if you lose half of those after the first month and another 25% in the next month or however you wish to cut it.

December 20th is an interesting date but after thinking I can manage. I am glad to see I will have time for Skyward Sword.

Fun times is the guild ramp up. Over 25 different guilds from old SWG server are already coordinating on both sides of the factions to get back on the same server. Gonna be some awesome pvp

Each class (8) have three unique Chapters, so we get 24 unique chapters. And the first Chapter for one Class alone is a little longer then Kotor1. And we still missing the normal World Story and Companion Storys.
So amazing i want this game so bad :-|

edit: and one little funyn thing. u get Evil Points if u flirt as a Jedi because of the Jedi Codex
