Haha. I like the cutscenes. With WoW, I tended to gloss over that wall of text in the mission box and just ran from point A to point B without understanding why.

What are the requirements for advanced training? Im level 10 and at the agent quartermaster and I'm being told I'm not eligible.

edit: Nevermind, found it.

You must not play many voiced RPGs or something.

That's the thing, I only really play RPGs and MMOs. I love that shit, I've never skipped a cutscene in my life. So when I heard TOR was Mass Effect/KOTOR+WoW I was stoked but after about 25+ hours on two characters I lost interest. The story didn't grab me enough for me to care about this NPC and why he wanted me to destroy another 5 turrets or turn off 4 satellites. I also think I made the wrong choice going with a sorcerer after playing a Warlock. They play so similarly that I was using my old WoW hotkeys to cast the same type spells in this game. Don't get me wrong though I still think it's going to be huge, just not for me.

What loading? Cutscenes don't have loading times.

The loading before the game switches to conversation mode, 4-6 second before it switches after right-clicking the npc.

Billychu said:
Seems like something really minor to complain about considering it usually lasts less than a second.

When it happens for every fucking npc you interact with for quests, yes it does add up and gets annoying quite quickly.

Please bear in mind that the beta currently has debug mode enabled, which more than likely doubles the strain on your PC's resources.

Exact same thing has been said of pretty much every mmo beta, rarely true. Rift for example ran like shit in beta, ran like shit in retail. Excuse in beta was debug mode/tools etc.

Yesterday I looked at a stream from a German Player for hours and the load times for the dialogue was only 0,5-2 seconds

I hit level 10 with my Sith Inquisitor -- the game seems to indicate that I can now choose an Advanced Class (preferably Assassin), but I don't have any idea how to do that. Can someone advise?

You have to continue completing class quests until the option shows up... it'll show up eventually if you just continue along with class quests

*shrug* I dunno then, my ping to the server is only 47 so that can't be it.

Anything above is unacceptable regardless version really. I suggest beta testers who have longer dialogue loading times go to the forums and complain about it.

And isn't this funny... every time i think maybe i'll keep my pre-order after all, i see something that makes me want to cancel it immediatly...

Maybe he has the game on a SSD? Load times are kinda crazy so far. It's beta though, these things are bound to happen. I'm hoping with optimization the load times and framerates will be more than acceptable.

i will ask him, but I thought the dialogues are loaded from the server?

All the dailogue is stored locally. There's no way in hell they'd be able to stream all that data and still make it a viable game for all but the top machines with the best internet.

My load times are basically instant. I might get one thats 2 seconds every once and a while, but its usually half a second or a second to get things going. 4-6 seconds would suck, thats for sure.

I dont have an SSD yet either just a 2tb 7500rpm HDD, PC is an older i7, 6gigs of ram, and a gtx280 or something, the mid tier 200 :p

There is maybe 2 seconds of a chat bubble you might see over your head if you walk into a cinematic area, but it is hardly an issue for me personally, but I do have 2x 7200rpm drivers in raid0, so my load times are usually a little faster than normal. I'm sure there will be optimization between now and release.

Also thanks for the AA fix that was posted earlier. Makes the game look a lot better, as expected.

Ah, yeah that bubble icon. I can see how that might annoy some people but it really hasn't been an issue for me so far. I just talked to a few people and it was at most 2 seconds for each one. No special setup on my HDD..

If those with low end computers are curious, I'm running it on default settings smoothly enough at an average 30 fps, except for some sound stuttering and very occasionally, texture pop-in on characters at the beginning of cutscenes. My cheap-ass rig: Core 2 Duo @ 1.86, 4 gb ram for Win7, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT. Hey, don't laugh, I built this from scraps for free and I never have an issue.

I already canceled my preorder for this very reason. The cut-scenes were cool at first but once I got to the third planet I just couldn't care less. I thought WoW in the Star Wars universe would be amazing but I'm just sick of the same gameplay after so many years.

I'm on the opposite spectrum.

I think this truly feels like the first MMO that could be a genuine single player game. Then again, regardless of how simple their games have gotten in the last decade, I've always been a fan of Bioware's dialogue and choice system and playing it in an MMO is fucking great to me.

I actually put in a preorder because of this beta.

(that said, it does get hard to level fast when you're spending so much time in cutscenes. I put in 20 minutes on my smuggler and was at lvl 2 when I logged out...4-5 hours with my Sith Warrior and I just hit 10)

Ask my german player with the stream last day and he has swtor on a HDD too, no idea why some people have 4-6sec load time.

It's like people don't want the RPG part of MMORPG.

Those people seem to have MMOADD. Haha. I have seen the same sort of people just go into click fits in WoW stacking up on quests without understanding the story behind, why they are doing what they are doing.

From what I played of the Old Republic so far has been really surprising. So far I have a lvl 10 jedi knight. It feels totally like an updated KOTOR with a bunch of actual players now included in the mix. I am loving it.

The only real valid complaint I have is the change to the old modding system. I really hope they rethink that. The old system was one of the greatest innovations in a MMO that I've seen. It was the best gear system I used. A better alternative to an Appearance tab.

Bioware has talked about it publicly before so I just hope it was just temporarily disabled this build or take the feedback seriously and go back on it.

Tedious fully-voiced cutscenes are what make the game an RPG?

I usually sit through most of the cutscenes, but I don't exactly find it thrilling to spend 2 minutes hearing about why I have to kill 8 reprogrammed droids or whatever. The important story quests should be voiced perhaps, but I don't see the need to waste people's time by voicing the filler quests.

I think this argument really depends on what you play. When I did sith I enjoyed 90% of the cutscenes. Now I rolled jedi and it is the exact opposite :-/

I will not be rolling jedi at retail. Imo they should scrap all lvl 1-10 jedi storytelling. Levels and art were great. Just omg the quests and interaction are so BORING.

I have a feeling the sith/jedi zones are going to be consistantly full while the other zones will be less so.

I played my smuggler and had maybe 5 or 6 people walk by me as I ran around, never getting in my way. But there were so many inquisitors and especially warriors in the Sith area that we were constantly competing for kills.

customization > voices

As for me, I'm not sure I want to buy the CE. I have the CE preordered but I'm on the fence about if I should cancel and wait six months for them to improve and see if it dies right off.

Though, honestly I kind of just want the statue.

Is anyone else having trouble logging in? I get to the first load screen after the initial CG scene and it sits and does nothing. One of the lines of info says "Waiting on character select info - 0.0%" while a timer infinitely counts upward

The Sith are fucking ridiculous. I don't follow Star Wars lore, but I fail to see how an organized society can exist when so much petty treachery and deceit is not only allowed but basically encouraged. I'd call them corrupt, but it's hard to do so when their whole system seems built on corruption. Everyone seems to have this attitude that it's okay to murder anyone for personal gain, or because that person made some minor mistake.

I'm not some hippie or care bear, but it seems as if everyone were just allowed to kill others like that, you'd eventually run out of people to fill all society's roles. Maybe things are less harsh outside the academy? :)

It's a cool figurine, i dont really give a turd about the other virtual stuff and the sound track is easily obtainable elsewhere.

If you are having long load times for dialogues, I would imagine it's hardware related. Only time have seen anything more than about 2 seconds wait for me has been in flashpoints and that is basically because you have to wait for others to load in as well.

Well yea they are ridiculous, and really the Sith are there worst enemy. The reason the rule of two was created was because of this reason. The Sith often failed merely because of in fighting and all their intrigue amongst each other. The Empire itself is what has kept the Sith going in many cases and even the story in TOR goes into that when you play as an IA.

Looking at the SWTOR forums, it seems that if a particular game server is down then you can't log in to the game AT ALL. So since my server is down, I am locked out. The game does not allow you to select an alternate server to start another character on. Your login is dependent on your main game server being up and running.

Brilliant software design at work.

Isn't this why MMOs usually have a log-in server?

It's the beta, you are not allowed to change servers.

Before this build, you couldn't switch between servers. There was no server selection. This build added the server selection so you can switch between servers. One would think It's still a work in progress.

Outside of flashpoints or when questing in a group it's incredibly rare for a cutscene load to be longer than a second for me.

Except this time its really true and you can see that it is base upon all the loading information they show you and how long it takes because each loading process is segregated.

Alterswtor has a new batch of screenshots. Lookit that Rancor.

Also, I thought they ripped the "Lady" titles out of the game recently? Or is that screen a little older?

That green gooey place in that first image looks really boring, Im all ready sick of it just by looking at it (though there's allways the small chance that it's just part of a bigger and more entertaining area), the other places looks nice though.

Edit: Also what's with all the random footage? I thought there was a NDA have I missed something?

That bit where the sorceress tried to down the Tropper made it look like healing is really really powerful. I hope that's not the case come retail.

The sorcerer had in combat heals too. If that fight stayed 1v1, I would love to see what would break down for that trooper (too much stuff on cooldown, no more stun break, no more resource refill etc.). TOR fights are long. TOR fights with healers going at it 1v1? Damn.

I signed up the day the site went up. Registered for the beta the day the form went up, and pre-ordered the game the day they announced pre-orders.

Still nothing.
