So when do we get a report on a MMO addict hurting himself or doing something rash over his in game companion cheating on them? (Bioware said it can happen)
*Rerolls same class until he gets it right*

I wonder how the character creation will be for ToR, I usually spend hours in there alone. I hope we can customize many of the details of out character early on. I also hope that Feeorin is a playable species for Shadow Consulars.

There was a leaked video of it, but I can't find it. Seemed very good though.

It's not super detailed from the leaked footage, though it's a bit more in depth than some games.

Wookiees won't be a playable race, I'm betting. Bioware has been annoyingly tight-lipped on information regarding playable races, but for the most part it seems like they're aiming for near-human races. Probably for a variety of reasons, including the fact that it makes voice acting and armor modularization much more manageable.

They'll probably make up for it by going wild with companion races, though. We've already seen Houk and Wookiees.

You need space content with a significant amount of depth over the long haul. :] Don't forget that a mmorpg should go on for years. What's in there will do for launch, but they will definitively have to expand on the space part with an expansion or free update as I can honestly expect it to get old given the fact that it's rather limited.

you don't need space at all. If they want to make a space mmorpg then let them make Star Wars Xwing vs Tie fighter the mmo and keep it seperated from swtor.

I rather they focus all their resources on the main game then to divert resources to the space section of the game. That is what killed SWG

I'd say that JTL was probably one of the great successes of SWG.

Where SWG failed was in the NGE. Well, among other things; it had problems since the start. But I'm certain the space expansion wasn't one of them. That, I think, they got fairly right.

Uh Jump to Lightspeed was done by a completely separate team than SWG. SWG (at launch) was done by the UO2 team SOE hired in Austin. JTL was done by a team of ex-Origin guys, most of which worked on Privateer.

SWG failed for many many reasons.

The problem was that it diverted funds from fixing the core game. So everyone who bought SWG for non space related things were left with a broken game.

Yes I know who it was done by. Doesn't change the fact that the resources diverted to it could have gone to fixing the core portion of SWG instead of letting it linger with huge problems for almost a year and a half until the rise of the wookies came out fixing many of the issues.

Just think of how many issues could have been fixed with SWG if they had the same man power and budget that was pumped into Jump to light speed.

I doubt it would have mattered, they failed at fixing basic things for years. Game was great in concept, but it was a disaster on almost every level.

Galaxies was an MMO way ahead of its time in many ways and too ambitious in others versus developement feasibility as far as resources to devote to things etc

EA censored it via breaking copyright infringement laws.

I never got to see it though. :(

The leak was similar to WoW's character builder, with a few more customization options and stuff like body types were available to choose from instead of all having same body size. Also seemed to confirm that some classes/race combos will be restricted which should be expected as you would not have pureblood Sith Jedi or Republic troops.

SWG failed long before NGE. Players were leaving in droves (myself included) well before that because the game was a broken mess from day 1.

True. I, too, was unsubscribed long before the NGE hit. But it was the final nail in the coffin, methinks.

Players were dropping like crazy before JTL came out. There was tons of broken... well pretty much every aspect of the game has something broken in it.

Before the NGE finally hit the game had settled into a pretty hardcore rp or pvp game. NGE finally screwed things up enough that not even the RPers or PVPers could stand to stay.

World PVP for Galaxies was so amazing. I remember battles on Dantooine where like 200 Rebels would fly in on a base busting mission and theyd meet 200 Imperials who teamed up to defend the city and its bases.

PVP was as epic as could be. Then you got guys at Blizzard who say world pvp sucks and people who say otherwise have rose tinted glasses and overlook how it sucks.

Fact is good world pvp will beat battlegrounds etc anyday.

I was the nastiest combat medic on my server. Various Imperial guilds would farm mats etc so I could make insane poisons and diseases. I had Exceptional Rancor Bile, Spider venom etc. I could make things that could practically black bar a player in a single tick.

It was mostly the player base. PVP had little purpose and in todays market that kind of PVP just would not really fly anymore. Everything has to be carrot on stick.

Even then the pvp aspect of SWG was in constant flux because of all the giant nerfs and changes the devs kept making in attempting to fix things. God I remember the early weeks of the game when it was nothing but a glorified pokemon game and it was basically people unleashing hordes of giant beasts into the frays and nothing but chaos as everyone had 3 rancors or other giants beasties... or 3 AT-ST's for extra silliness.

Also pvp was complete destroyed when Jedi flood gates were opened.

World pvp dies when you add a gear incentive to pvp.

I loved arena in WoW but it killed world pvp more than remote instance queues or flying mounts ever did.

Lack of incentive means most players will not give a damn about world pvp. Which is exactly what happened to Warhammer online, a PVP focused game where everyone avoided world pvp because there was no incentive to it, and you got more rewards doing otherwise. World PVP in WoW was long dead before arenas came about.

What races are confirmed. So far I've only seen Human and Twi'lek.
As far as I can tell, they've never come out and said "yo, check out these playable races." Most of what we've seen so far is from gameplay trailers and the SWTOR codex thing.

As of now: Chiss, Human, Miraluka, Mirialan, Rattataki, Sith, Twi'lek, and Zabrak.

With glimpses of Chagrian, Kel'Dor, and Togruta in trailers.

Pretty meager, imo. Mostly just shades of human. And a lot of the races seem tied to specific classes (Chiss to Imperial Agent, Miraluka to Consular, Rattataki to Bounty Hunter, etc.), which I think I'm not going to like.

Like I said , if they devoted the budget and man power from JTL to SWG the game wouldn't have failed. They would have had the time and money to fix the basic things .

It be like if instead of adding the first expansion pack for wow they decided to mak ean orc scuba diving game and attach it.

Thats why if Bioware is dumb enough to invest a budget to make an entire second game they should make it a second game instead of another section of TOR. its much smarter that way in the long run.

This I really agree with, they will definitely need to give us some more options for races before launch. I want my Feeorin gosh darnit!!! >_<

I mean if they want to be all "iconic" to the SW franchise, they better have a huge amount of races available, I mean there a more than enough humanoid canon races in SW for a dozen MMORPG's....

Just saying...:p

Rattataki are Sith Inquisitors too. And ya, bioware is trying to keep to human-like for now. I think in the future, they will probably add Trandoshan, the lizard race etc. as playable, with their own dialogue, and companion interactions. Right now, it's focused on speaking basic, and having love interests.

Ugh, man, I never thought of that. No Rodians? There better be a billion Rodian companions to choose from or I'm gonna rage.

Honestly, I'm not massively bothered by the near-human race selection. It's understandable, practically speaking. And looking at all the other Bioware games, particularly KOTOR, you're always playing a plain jane human duder.

What has the potential to really tic me off, though, is race-class restrictions. Miraluka are without a doubt one of my favorite races in the Star Wars universe, but if I can't play a Miraluka smuggler (and there is no in-universe reason that prohibits me from doing so), I will not be a happy camper.

The only race restriction that makes sense is disallowing the Sith Purebloods to play Jedi characters.

Feeorin can have love interests too, it not there fault that people can't get past the tendrils.

Stupid...shallow....jerks....>=(

Speaking of Feeorin, I'm actually kinda surprised that there's no mention of Nautolans in SWTOR. They're just slightly fishier-looking Twi'leks, after all. If lekku are manageable, there's no reason tendrils shouldn't be. And they're pretty popular dudes.

Wookiepedia says that Twi'leks are locked into Smugglers. Why can't I be a Jed Knight when Aayla Secura is the most prominent Twi'lek in the series?

Bib Fortuna is more prominent - having actual lines and all - but that said, there was a Twi'lek Jedi Consular in the flashpoint video, so looks like they can be those too, at least.

There's also a Twi'lek Companion named Vette.

Well we've already seen a T'weilk Sage in the Taral V gameplay trailers I think.

Jedi Knight wouldn't be unlikely to be seen at launch. :/

I can settle for Consular, but I'm holding out for Knight.

EDIT: Consulars have a single saber + force class that sounds pretty cool. Guess I'm playing that.

Good to see the republic guild has 18 members already. I will be attempting to spearhead the more dedicated raid part of the guild. Man, I need some more announcements. At this point, I am even prepared to upgrade my computer that is only just about to be a year old if need be.

Yeah, don't know why I posted that when I knew they were Consulars as well. Are they also Imp Agents? Because there was a Twi'lek agent in the "Betrayed" trailer.

They might not, the Empire as presented in the Old Republic novel apparently is pretty xenophobic like the CT Empire, so I could see them just only having near humans and human species as Imp Agents. The Twi'lek in the Betrayed video I believe was supposed to be Vette who is a companion character : http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/biographies/vette

I'm assuming you mean 'Deceived'?

The Twi'lek in the cinematic was the Sith Warrior's companion, IIRC. The R2-ish droid was the Jedi Knight's companion, in the same trailer.

Ah, a companion. I wasn't sure if the Empire was xenophobic in this era like they were during the films.

The Empire supposedly is, though the Sith aren't really xenophobic. While the Sith are pretty much in control of the Empire, they are two separate entities in a way.
