The PvP information you can get from the fan site summit. A lot of information came out of that event. They even had level 20 characters, which I doubt any of the new testers have yet.

If the PVP is anything like Warhammer's low level pvp then the pvp will be good.

If the PVP is like any other MMO, it's gonna blow chunks.

The PVP is going to be pretty party based. I think lone wolf types will be sorely disappointed.

Well, from what it looks like now anyway, with the way tanking is implemented, and the fact you can't destroy someone in 2 hits.

That's good. getting gangraped in pvp and not being able to do anything about it (why no group silencers for everyone that last long enough for a person to run away? just make it so you can only use it when 2 or more enemies are surrounded by you and put it on a 2.5 minute CD with a 15 second effect.

Hopefully not a bunch of empty space like in SWG

The developers said that there is a lot of empty space on Tatooine as well as Hoth because that is what you expect from a desert and ice planet, an empty, desolate space since the habitat is so harsh.

As of right now, I like the choice since it actually makes sense. Those two planets should be like that, with little pockets of life where an oasis or hot springs are at. I might change my mind when i get there and just get bored roaming around the desert with nothing in sight.

SWG had empty space for player-housing/etc reasons.. that would be cool if TOR had this.

I totally signed up on an old email from school that I can't check anymore XO. I changed my email. Hopefully they didn't send me an email about it already to the other one :(

It's the same development choice as in KOTR, where you go out of the conclave and you have a massive desert map infront of you that takes a long time to walk across, with NPC's and mobs having a huge distance between each other.

With it being story driven, you know at least you shouldnt have to grind mobs between locations to get exp.

Yeah, it's expansive, but it's not bad. And by the time you're doing Tatooine and Hoth you have mounts anyway.

I hope it does have a lot of empty space. Fucking deserts or tundras with some shit every five feet are awful. It doesn't need to be as expansive and empty as SWG, but enough to create a cool atmosphere and so you actually feel like you're in a desert.

The problem with SWG was that those areas were huge and they were REALLY empty. When you were there, you just thought, "OK, time to leave."

Although, it was cool to see a random krayt skeleton.

I hope they have krayt dragons in TOR. Susceptible to KD/stun, of course

release this game already, damnit

There are world bosses in-game according to Daniel Erickson. I'd like a Krayt Dragon to be one of those.

I dont care if they have to zone off an area to be instanced for player Housing its something they need to end up adding. Galaxies and its player housing was great. I know early on they are cheating with the personalized starship stuff but player housing should happen even if it means restricted to like Coruscant and Dromund Kaas

I would be satisfied with the personal starship stuff as a replacement for 'traditional' player-housing if they pull it off right.

I agree its just I think Player Housing has a place thats been greatly diminished. I was the first person on my server to have a Large Naboo House. I worked my ass off with an architect friend. It was a huge accomplishment. Managed to find a spot right below the Emperor's Retreat that looked down the mountain etc.

Player Housing has its drawbacks of course in a wide open map when suddenly half of Tatooine is houses.

I think having a starship as your house is much much better than just a regular freakin house. It would be cool if you could visit the planet's starport and see all of the ships that are docked there at the time, and then go around visiting them, knocking on doors to see who is home and pop in for a visit. (basically to check out how they customized their starship digs)

Portable player housing.. who needs housing that's locked to the ground?

Also when players would quit and most of the houses were abandoned.

Can't say I ever played SWG since it just looked horrible, but I just looked up the housing system there, and I still think my idea is better. Mostly because I cant reconcile having and maintaining a house with Star Wars. A ship acting as your house is just a whole lot cooler

I can't get past that either

What are you using? I had to install Firefox to get it to work since it isn't compatible with Chrome.

No, don't get me wrong, I like the idea.

Only problem I foresee is having a clusterfuck of starships parked on the outskirts of every city. That would look hilarious..

Use IE for the scanner, never worked for me in Firefox or Chrome.

ooo, sweet. It actually finally worked for me. Finally worked with Firefox. I tried Firefox first, but that never worked, then went with IE, but that was just so slow and horrid that that never worked. Went back and tried Firefox again for the hell of it and it worked.

Now ill wait for the inevitable beta invite. Right? Right?

Player housing only worked because of how shops were set up. Communities could be build around its merchants. At the end of the day it was more of a nuisance that kept you from getting where you want to go.

Ship > House

I was a fan of SWG's player housing right up until I played the game. I spent a good 10 minutes riding out to an objective only to find that some twat-bag built his house on top of it and there was jack shit I could do. Bullshit like that, the numerous ghost-towns and the amount of landscape that was uglied up by player houses turned me off of that system pretty quickly. It's a system that could work in the right game (TOR is not that game, it's not nearly open-ended enough) and with some restrictions but the SWG implementation was pretty flawed.

Thats why I think a system like having it only on places like Coruscant can work. Whole damn planet is buildings. So they can just design so many types of apartments that people can buy. Have varying prices from small lower levels slummy stuff upto Top of Skyscraper penthouses.

Honestly, what would be the point when you already have ships? The ship is housing that follows you from world to world. It's actually a stroke of brilliance in that using it is a necessity and that it's always relatively close at hand.

It's also home to your companions, which have the same amount of content and story as your NPC side kicks in other Bioware MMO games. So really its a natural evolution. I didnt get to see any space battles during my time playing the game, but I really hope that they will eventually patch in pvp and battle damage effecting your ship - making the bond between home and player stronger.

I might have been covered in this thread but I can't get the active x app to run a system scan on my computer. I have Win7 an i7 processor, SSD drive and a 460GTX videocard. I wondering what's wrong. I read that you need to update java but I'm running the current version.
Some of the problems are server-side. A couple days ago the scan didn't work at all on any browser, even after trying ten times or more on each. Then suddenly it started working yesterday.

Having houses and such while neat, was one of countless un-star wars like things in swg ( lol chef class in star wars) . Ship housing is so much more appropriate.

I've given up on the scanner. Tried IE 64 and firefox. Tried installing latest Java. Tried compat mode, running in ie7 mode, running as admin, uninstalling the scanner then letting browser re-installing it. Pretty frustrating.

Does anyone know if this game will have RVR or any sort of rated PVP? Rift's ultimate failure with PVP was that it had neither.

RvR has not been discussed yet, but I think there's a good chance given Mythic's influence. PvP is basically a more polished version of Warhammer Online.
