Ah man I know, I wasn't too mad on the idea of an MMO mainly because early showings of this just didn't really appeal. I'm a huge Kotor fan, and I joined the site literally as it went up in October 2008, but I slowly drifted away from it the forums and everything really.

But the more I see of the game, and it's art etc, the more I want to play it lol! Being a huge fan of Star Wars too, I just want something to fill the void that Galaxies left behind. :)

I don't know what kind of game Galaxies eventually became, but I was crushed and my soul was ripped out when I bought that game on launch day and quit 2 weeks later. It was awful. Barren wastelands on the planets, and boring ass gameplay.

I hope that this turns out to be the kind of Star Wars game I always dreamed of playing. A game where I felt completely immersed in the universe.

SWG was a sandbox MMO. The content was player generated, the reason to play was because of the other players. The crafting and social aspects were the main fun behind that game. Imagine a game where one could become the best crafter on their server and that crafter paid combat classes to protect them as they went and looked for resources in dangerous parts of the planet. That was Star Wars Galaxies. The actual mission and questing system was horrible and certainly not a reason to ever play the game. That is where TOR comes in. ;)

By unfinished, at least in this case, I meant an MMO that has server stability and relatively bug free content. An MMO constantly updates, but a released one is still much better than one that's still a work-in-progress for most of its original content.

Although you are right that the first couple of months could be like a testing period. I believe the only MMO that I have played upon release was City of Heroes. I joined SWG after it had mounts (but quite before NGE) and I am playing WoW off and on. I thought WoW had a pretty stable release but apparently I was wrong. :/

I say all this to say: Touché.

I think Rift is a good example of a great launching game. It started with the course of servers being very very populated to the point where more servers were brought up. Over the course of time, there were quick class balances, glitches that got fixed quickly. And other community feedback suggestions added (LFG system for example). I'm curious how a developer determines how many servers are needed before the launch of a game.

This describes my experience. i was also tricked back into the game months later because of the changes that had supposedly taken place. i rode around on my speeder for twenty minutes then uninstalled and unsubbed.

ive played and enjoyed sandbox MMOs before (Ultima Online is still one of my favorites) but Galaxies just wasnt fun for me. It seemed that the developers were more interested in making things that were cool to see (like Stormtroopers hitting you in the face if rude) instead of compelling content.

I dunno but a great majority of an MMO's success is determined at launch (now-a-days anyway). Rift seems like it is a successful game so, going by the experience you just mentioned, a great part of its success is probably attributed to the quick fixes by the devs. I think BioWare is determined to launch a stable game and within one month I think we'll know how successful TOR will be.

hopefully this is why they are taking their sweet time to release the game. They know a shitty release can just kill an MMO, even if it has a big name *cough FF14 cough*. If that's the case, I think its a pretty smart move considering that it will pay out in the long run if the buzz is overwhelmingly positive at launch

Hopefully EA gives them enough time to do it right. The results for failure will be disastrous.

And regarding Galaxies. Even though i didnt find it very fun i recognize that a lot of people did. im not trying to badmouth the game. i have a respect for it because it tried to do a lot of interesting things. It just didnt jive with me is all.

I don't have my doubts, but I certainly hope BioWare will listen to the player feedback months after launch to make any proper fixes or tweeks with the classes.

In any case, I have a lot of friends ready to jump on board and play the death out of this game.

I am just glad that there will be a ton of content beyond raiding and grinding and that playing alts will actually be a new and entertaining experience. I am completely burned out on the serious raider style. It just felt too much like a job. Really got sick of feeling obligated to sign on on specific times.

i figure there is a good year solid that Bioware will be on top of every concern for the playerbase. i also expect a ton of content to be updated with fair regularly as well. Bioware and EA need this more than anything. They cannot afford to let the playerbase feel that problems arent quickly addressed and the game world is stagnant at launch.

What was the number, 1600 hours of story content? I'm all there.

Try Google Chrome? :D

I prefer Firefox and I have gotten it to work on Firefox before (although it was before this newest version that I'm not too fond of).

200 hours of storyline per class. Should do a good job of spicing things up beyond just the usual dailies grind and raid dynamic

If that's just the class quests, then there is still the story available in the world quests, flashpoints, and even what story there is in operations (although these will be the least story intense most likely).

Weird - it just all of a sudden worked in IE. Nothing changed (didn't have to click on any pop-ups or installation windows). Woo I hope i get in. If, for nothing else, to make sure I don't waste $50 on this game if it is no good. :)

There's still trials that are probably going to be available in some form. I expect BioWare to adopt the Blizzard model of putting trials in all of their other games for their big MMO (Mass Effect 3 better have some TOR trials so I can try to convince some of my friends!).

Doesn't work on Chrome, at least not for me. I always have to switch to IE or Firefox.

Yup, fuck raiding. I really could care less about impressing a bunch of mmo players with my awesome, leet raiding gear. Alts all the way. Hell, by the time I finish all, or at least the stories that I am interested in, I am sure they will probably release new story content. That, or ill just stop my subscription until they do.

I am also thrilled that you can be an evil lightside or good darkside, since I think that creates shades of gray. I find pure good and pure evil characters really dull. I have a feeling though that the best characterization will be done with your companions since its just a lot easier to develop a character when you dont ahve to take into account player choice constantly.

Definitely doing a good guy imperial agent the first playthrough since that seems the most interesting and have heard really positive things about the story. First alt might be a dickish Stormtrooper since that just sounds like a lot of fun - though that is definitely up in the air

No. They just took a sample to match the different demographics. This is not to be confused with the "real" beta test.

Man, the things I would do for access to the beta...

Nope, I just completely misunderstood his post.

I thought he was suggesting we switch our Country in the beta application page to an European one.

Hey i dont blame you. Reading these reports of the game is driving me crazy and impairing my judgement. i need in the beta so bad lol My mind makes up scenarios where its a possibility to increase the chance to get accepted too.

I just wish that like in KOTOR, that when you become evil with lots of dark side points, that you would look more evil too. Like pale skin, flies flying around you, scars on your face, yellow/redish eyes and so on.

Yeah, it's really an improvement. They also released this Corellia concept art.

Some items are darkside/lightside only, so I'm fairly certain that your look will fit your story choices although I doubt the character itself changes appearance.

Argh, I'm having the hardest time ever deciding between trooper and jedi sentinel.

On the one hand I wanna swing badass lightsabers. On the other hand I wanna be a badass with a giant gun.

Oh the choices.

Having items that are tied into alignment is cool touch.

I am glad that they are not going to do physical changes to your character depending on what side you choose. I hated that in ME and will hate it even more in SWOTOR. Hey, Im a good, handsome imperial agent surrounded by pale, evil looking british people with bloodshot eyes and red veins popping out of their skin. I am sure they will never find me out!

Lightside/darkside gear is fine since its a choice if you want to wear it

The whole light/darkside thing also I don't think is meant to be actually about being a good or "evil" character, more about your attitude in a way. You are not going to become an "evil" jedi, you are pretty much just a douche bag. Same thing as your not going to have Sith characters being "good".

Are those Guild for the Beta or Official game? Is there a difference? I've gone ahead and applied just in case.
Official. Not sure if those in the beta have a gaf guild going, but I could tell you if Bioware would send me a damn invite. :p

I don't think the guild features are implemented yet. Right now we're still in phase 1 of 3, but maybe there's an unofficial guild ingame. I wonder if they'll invite the bigger guilds later in the beta to test the different features.

Oh ok, I just kept getting the survey on how I liked the guild interface, so I figured I'd try and check it out.

Finished Act I as a Light Side Sith Warrior.

Mind. Blown.

I've played long enough now to say that there are a few aspects that I would give WoW the edge on, though really that is due to the two being fundamentally different types of games. It's not a clone at all and if you expect one you might be disappointed in some respects. Really, it's exactly what you'd expect from a KOTOR MMO.

So enough WoW comparisons, here's a better one:

The story I am experiencing compares favorably with KOTOR. And I've only sampled one of eight.

I don't really want to answer this at least until I've seen the endgame. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it at all.

In one word: Sandboxing.

I must emphasize that this does not detract from the enjoyment of the game at all. Compromise is necessary in this area due to the narrative structure.
