I can't remember exactly, but I think each act is supposed to be at least as long as KOTOR, if not longer.

200 hours in total (rough number) with the first act being the biggest. Someone from the beta can probably confirm this, but if they do, I'll report them

I actually believe that it is a good thing I'm not beta testing this game. You know what I'm talking about, discovering places, new powers, items for the first time. In such games it kind of spoil it. Sure you can roll another classes on the other side when the game release, but you know how the game plays already. Some see it as an edge over other players but to me, nothing feels like discovering stuff for the first time.

Heck, I remember my first run through Ironforge or Azshara. Or my first missions run on Dathomir and their force sensitives sisters.

So I hope you guys in the beta enjoy it but also that you find all the nasty bugs so that we can have a smooth release! Now get to work!

Given the established context, they will. Trust me.

Very curious if this is positive or negative.

Now that you put it that way, I'm feeling a lot less bad about not being in the beta.

I keep telling myself that. It numbs the pain if only for a short while. It was a "competitive" advantage in WoW to know the zones and quests before launch. With SWTOR not catering exclusively towards the endgame, I don't see it as such a big problem now. Now I want to experience the journey as well and presumably multiple times. I don't want to spoil anything before launch. Well, I read a few hands-on and what not, but I always skip the story segments.

Trust me, this is one MMO that you do not want to play the beta for if you have any interest in lore/story/aethetics .

In all the WoW beta's, during my first few weeks of play I'd enjoy quests, items and lore that were cut because they couldn't get them to work, or they decided to axe a story arc. So basically your enjoying something that will never get resolved, like watching the start of a great TV series only for it to get axed at the half way point.

TOR is the opposite where even though VO were placeholders, or item text missing - your still getting a full story. Making it so when the game goes live and you decided to stick with the classes you played, you've basically ruined the first 50% of some great story telling.

Also when they wipe the beta characters and your romance comes to an abrupt end, you will really want to go to the dark side hehe.

This is why I would play the class in beta that I would least want to play at games launch. Right now Imperial Agent is probably the last of the 8 classes I would want to play through the game, so I would use that in Beta to leave the game fresh at launch for me.

I was playing Aion until late last night, and realised that most of the groups I'm in are all guys who play as loligirls.

This is probably the revolutionary element of TOR - Most guys will roll male characters because of the companion romance subplots.

Man i hope this game is gonna be so awesome....i was so dissapointed with WAR (even all the stuff they showed before the release was cool). Im kinda afraid to hype myself again, only to be let down :(

I personally always had a hard time role playing outside my gender.

I don't see why people do it.

Nor would I make a character of the opposite gender my main character...

Hopefully I'm not a minority. I'm hoping its normal to be uncomfortable role playing outside one's gender. -shrug-

I am not trying to be a jerk here, but don't they have methods specifically setup for people to contact them with matters such as these?

I roll female character often, more pleasant to look at lol, or fits class better. And majority of people aren't in it for role playing, got special servers for that in most of mmos

I'm not talking about dedicated "role-playing", just rolling a female character is odd and unnatural to me.

At least on all the MMO's I've played, I've never roll a female toon as my main. -shrug-

Have they elaborated on how they are dealing with moral decisions in groups?

Yeah in one of the videos from E3 one of the devs mentioned it. If you make a light side choice but a guy who made a dark side choice win the group chat roll then you will get light side points and he will get dark.

If I understand your question correctly:

Whoever gets the highest roll decides. So if someone chooses to kill someone, you're going to have to live with it. The one that made the choice gets the light/dark side points for it however, you get whatever you picked.

Please correct me if I'm wrong beta testers :p

I've never played as female in a MMO as I tend to think I'd be bombarded/pestered with attention from dudes I'm not really into receiving; However in Mass Effect, for whatever reason, I couldn't get into the game as much when my character was male. I have no explanation for it, but to me it seemed natural for my Shepard to be female.

But the actual decision is the "dark side" one? I mean, I'm all for more personnal stories but that kind of design would just push me to group with "light" groups.

Isn't that going to be an issue once the game is live?

Many times here, many times on the site. Read back on the thread history to find out more.

As for gender - I think its quite normal for a good deal of men to roll female characters. Most say its more attractive to look at, and quite a few state because it suits the role they are filling better. Single player games don't allow me normally to pick the protagonist, so it's not like we don't do this all the time anyway.

I usually do it on art style. Korean artists make the armour/comesmetic items and collectables look great of a female, but terrible on a male. Or a game that demands I play a guy with shoulders the size of a 4x4 and grunts like a barbarian. WoW, I had a male character but frankly it makes no difference in that game.

I just think that TOR is going to be the only MMO where (and only if this is advertised on the box/feature trailers) you will find male toon's out number female on every class/race type in the game, because dudes don't want to be romancing dude's ingame.

Yes, you won't get light side or dark side points because of another persons decision in a conversation. So you're light/dark side progression won't get sabotaged.

I doubt it's going to be a huge thing outside of some who are anal about personal story flow, but lot of the group content like flashpoints are things a person is likely going to play through several times with different people, and I imagine a big part of it to keep things fresh is to experience different conversations and choices people make about what you do.

Also light/dark choice are not so clear cut. Your not going to be a group of Jedi who can choose "dark" choices and go on some slaughter of innocent rampage, it's more of a hostile/douchebag choice you make. The choices you make don't go greatly against the type of character you play, your Sith making light side choices is still not a "good guy", just less of a jerk and maybe not as evil as the other Sith.

The story will though right? If some dick in your group decides to kill someone in a conversation that's pretty much it right?

On another note... Some more cake to be eaten at a certain blog.

You can chose to do the conversation by yourself if you want.

I'll be rolling females only. I always do in games.

Been doing the same with MMOs lately. Guys just look odd or they're too "pretty". So I just stick with the female role. A Sith tank female will be awesome!

Single player I have no problem rolling a female. In MMO's however, no way.

Aside from MMO's I do roll either gender, whichever I'm feeling.

Like in KOTOR, my first roll was a chick Revan and I unlocked that romance scene with Carth on that unknown planet before heading to the Star Forge which was surprising at the time.

But I liken MMO's to my online identity as geeky as that sounds, so I like to keep my gender affiliation honest and I just never understood how people would roll a gender they weren't affiliated with as their main....

p.s. Gender =//= Sex btw.... just clearing that up right now....

Oh, and not to knock the OP here cause it's damn good, just thought this would be another great outside source for info, etc. on the game.

http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/874061-SWTOR-information-gathered-thus-far-from-various-sources

MMO usually has a decent community. Better than SWTOR community.
Community wise perhaps, but I still have to give credit to TDK, who constantly updates the "Information gathered on The Old Republic so far!" thread. I always refer to this thread or the individual class threads before the swtor wiki.

That is a great place for info also. I was limited with how much space I had in my OP. I can't have tons of text, because it exceeds the length a post is allowed to be. So I couldn't go into detailed information about everything. So when I updated it, I instead just put a bunch of links to places people could get proper information about each subject.

Q&A #8 is up on our favorite pastry site!

Some really tasty cake there this time around.

GafGuild

As it seems now, there arent too many people around interested in a European guild for Gaf just yet. As a release date will be announced I guess people will become more interested.
I'll have another shout out around that time again. The 4 we have up till now just seems a bit low to start a guild with on swtor.com

You took down the GAF'ER? I tried joining, but now it's not there anymore.

That it quite some cake there. He even predicted a release date based on the low-level content he has played

Like I said before, I'll join - but its way too early to talk about guilds and servers etc since we dont have a release date ~

Also - NeoGAF -

as a guild name, sounds perfectly acceptable for what it is
