I think BW/EA doesn't have to worry about not having enough testers. There's always bunch of rabid SW fans who are eager to have anything with SW logo on it.

And where are the EU invites! I want one >.<

The problem is they don't just need Star Wars fans. They need people experienced with MMORPG's to give them constructive feedback( that are also SW fans).

Yes, but even then, they can sort it out :p. How many SW fans would choose D3 over a SW game. ( Ok many *looks at SW: Kinect* but still enough for them to have seasoned testing crew)
Also there's the bunch of folks that just play MMOs and nothing else.

Maaan. I really hope this game comes out this fall, or that I get into the beta soon. Had a TOR forum account since September of 09 and I believe beta registered for that long as well. Does anyone know if they choose active forum posters over normal registrants, or is it purely random/computer specs alone?

Anyway, absolutely going Sith Sorcerer. Still torn between Merc or Powertech with Bounty Hunter - Merc's firepower sounds awesome, but Powertechs are gonna be few and far between, so that might be a better strategic move.
They seem to do random sampling. It's not like you have to have the best hardware or have an average of 5 post per day for an extended period.

That's why I didn't get into the survey testing. I "liked" Star Wars

I had not a single post on the SWTOR forums prior to my invite. I don't think I logged into that site but once to update my computer profile when I bought a new video card 6-9 months ago.

It sounds like it won't be moderated at all, which I'm quite surprised by given the extended time he have had with the beta. People on the official forum are asking how much BioWare paid him to make sure it's kept positive!

a slice of cake has just been served

Think Bioware is hyping it up tho. Reid has been retweeting those tweets and answered bunch of questions on the forums, so I think there might be a favorable post coming up.

You don't need money to say nice things about this game. You just need to play it.

I'm also curious to see how far he got and how much he will reveal.

I wouldn't know. Just thought it was a "funny" comment.

If I recall correctly Gabe was hyped for this game for ages. I'm not surprised he gets to write some semi official impressions down.
Penny Arcade and SWTOR are just one heck of a combo.

Makes me even more sure that PAX Prime will have something good in store for us :)

With the impending Diablo 3 beta details coming on July 1st, Bioware/EA needs to get everyone on their beta ASAP!

Doesn't really matter, even with larger scale betas, the amount of players who want in for both is going to be more than the amount who will get in to play unless they just do the glorified demo/beta nonsense.

Reid tweeted around 10 mins ago that they will be inviting loads of european testers in future compared to the amount of invited through market research. Well pretty much given, but nice to know that there are loads of euro-invites coming up.

Please let it be me this time! Please let it be me!

About those diablo 3 invites? Meh, seriously. That game is looking crappier by the year (which is about their content update cycle) Everytime they show me something new it makes me less and less excited.
I used to think Diablo 3 would drag me away from WoW. Besides the fact that Blizzard themselves have pretty much scared me away, I'm pretty damn sure it's TOR that will have a nice needle in my veins the coming years.

Sweet. I'm not expecting too much than what we already know. Keeping my hype checked at the door. Maybe I'll get surprised. Who knows.

They'll probably allow Mike to tell us about a few minor yet unseen features of the game to keep it believable.
But I don't really believe that they'll let 'm say whatever he wants to say. With the NDA that they have going on and all the articles and videos that are hunted and taken down seconds after they're put up, I just don't believe he has complete freedom.

I am super excited though. Really curious what he has to say about this game.

Whenever a site gets an exclusive (Gamespot, mmorpg.com etc.) they always launch the article/video the day before the Friday update. This could very well be something like that.

It's also becoming very likely fridays comic update will have something to do with the whole Reid/Gabe thing blowing up on twitter.

Well that's pretty good news. I'm disappointed that he didn't dive a little deeper for us, but at the same time I'm sure he wanted to respect the wishes of BW/EA and not go too crazy even though they didn't put any restrictions on him.

All I can really say at this point is that the wait really, really sucks!

He's a Bounty Hunter.

I'm going to have to see if I can track him down in game.

Looks like the only bit of new information he spilled was the holoprojector, which is indeed a really neat feature.

Been mentioned a bunch of times at E3 by the dev team + walkthough ;)

He's a casual PvE WoW player for about five years, so I think what he says has a lot of value. Interestingly enough, EA are looking for community representatives with quite a bit of WoW experience behind them - so clearly looking at cutting the WoW playerbase in the first year.

He really seemed to like it. No critical notes whatsoever.

If I had gotten special early access by knowing someone at Bioware, and then gotten permission to speak publicly about it, I wouldn't be critical either.

You don't, but it certainly helps for a lot of games.

I don't want to hear glowing praise in a review. I want to hear the negatives.

Why wouldn't I like it? Why would I? Having criticisms in a product being a bad thing offends me more than if whatever they were reviewing was bad or not.

I was saying that his special treatment probably colored the impressions he ended up writing, whether or not he would admit it - not that it was a good thing.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on the actual content of his impressions without breaking the NDA myself.

He did have criticisms, he said it was a little ridiculous the setting was almost identical to the one presented in the movies.

Kotor had a pretty original story that still felt like Star Wars to my recollection, I'm replaying it now and it really seems that way. But TOR needs to expand to a huge audience and part of that is basically having the same exact story and setting as the movies to appeal to everyone. It sucks, but I'm sure we'll manage, hopefully the individuals stories aren't as cliched and predictable as the prequels.

I'll wager the usual complaints for a MMO are there and are being glossed over because people don't even realize they're there anymore. It's probably still "go collect 10 gaffi sticks" "go collect 12 flowers" "go kill 5 dark acolytes" and stuff like that. Criticisms of WoW right now are mostly all of repetition and the fact the game is so old it's just re-hashing stuff. You can't really get complaints like that from a brand new game like this, and it's so varied if there's part of a game someone doesn't like they aren't going to play that particular part.

The original KOTOR still had the Hutts as crime lords, a bleeping droid companion, Boba Fett armor, a Yoda race Jedi, a wise talking street smart character with a Wookiee companion, and plenty other similarities to the movies. It doesn't seem like they're changing much for TOR that wasn't there in KOTOR, since that game was pretty Star Warsy to begin with. What KOTOR had was a compelling and deep story that explores the universe beyond what we get in the movies, and hopefully TOR will have that.

Shrennin

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
KOTOR to me was like its own different movie series using all the same ideas of the original movies but putting its own unique spin and twist on it. The twist in KOTOR, in my opinion, seems just as shocking as the twist in the OT. It was a very well done storyline that was able to give that feeling of the Star Wars films while still feeling unique all at the same time.

You're right, but that means that Kotor and Tor will be a little more opposite story wise. Characters in kotor were the same as the movies with the settings and plot being different, while plot and settings in tor will be similar with your character being your own.

It's weird but as someone else mentioned, I want an invite but don't really know why.

Maybe cause I've just entered the holidays and there are no games on the horizon.

For some reason the 100MB installer wasn't working, I restarted my computer, and now its working fine, games downloading now, I read its like 30 GB or something insane.

Haha those are the exact things I got preparing for the game. What's even worse is 2 of my real life friends got into the beta and I'm the one that told them to sign up. Excuse me while I go cry in a corner.

Well, in all fairness I didn't really get either specifically for TOR. I've been meaning to upgrade the video card for a while, and the mouse was on woot.com for $50 a few weeks back.
