Why are people hankering over a dinky little art book in the CE when this is coming:

Guild still groing at a slow but steady pace. We're now 7 strong.

Look us up if you're looking for a European Republic guild on swtor.com under the guildname NeoGAF.
Good idea with the thread on the private forum. Had to look twice at some of the names

Any word on reccomended specs? I'm running a 2.7ghz core 2 duo 4gb ram and 1gb nvidia 9800gt. Will this run it?
Without having played the game, I can quite confident say yes. They're aiming at a broader market and have therefore lowered the overall PC requirements. Apart from fixing bugs, they'll also spend a lot of time from now on out trying to optimize the game.

Alright. So I did some more research about various classes and their roles of being tanks. So now I'm torn between the Jedi Guardian and the Jedi Shadow. What I really want to know is if the Jedi Shadow qualifies as a full fledged tank or is it more like a damage dealing off tank. I can't imagine that the double-sided blade wielding Shadow would be even close to equals with the Guardian when it comes to tanking. However, if they are close, my choice will be easy because I reeeeeaalllly want the double blade, but being a viable tank comes first in my priority list. Any info would be appreciated and you can PM if you don't want certain info out in public. Thanks!

Do you really think any company would purposely assign a class a role just to make them non-viable?

"We're going to refer to you as tanks and give you tanking talents/gear/abilties... but just to be funny we're going to make you so terrible at role that noone will ever want to group with you as that role. That'll learn you...."

Well I think it's more of a matter of who will be the best tank. No doubt as with most RPG's, there is always the optimum build even though multiple builds can tank. RIFT for example let players have lots of build options for doing a tank, but really there was always a current best tank.

He simply is wanting to know which of his two choices will be better at the tanking role.

This is a very good point but I can swear this has actually happened in past MMOs. However, now that we're in the World of Warcraft age of MMOs, your point is quite valid. I can see a very inexperienced developer doing this but we're talking about BioWare here so I guess I shouldn't worry. I guess I'll plan on going Dark Side Jedi Shadow then.

Mmmm... double-bladed purple lightsaber... mmm...

Correct. And the only way to get definitive evidence of this is to either play the game or talk to people who want to break the NDA. So if it turns out that the Shadow really is a second rate tank, I'll simply switch. :)

I think it essentially comes down to your play style. Both ACs will have certain abilities that make them viable tanks in warzones, flashpoints and operations. With that in mind I think you should rather look at their supplementary abilities. What CCs, self heals and burst damage abilities are available. If you haven't already seen it, then here are some links to give you an idea of what they have to offer:

Jedi Guardian abilities
Jedi Shadow abilities

These are great! Thank you!

I actually found the Jedi Consular impressions on the Darth Hater site which broke it down exactly like the Jedi Guardian's page you linked there. Granted, both of these impressions of the classes were posted on December 15th, 2010 and some things might have changed since then. However, there is no mention of threat generation at all in the Jedi Shadow's abilities.

Check it out. Jedi Shadow abilities from Darth Hater's site.

So unless they've added some threat generation from then until now, it sounds like the Guardian is the definitive tank as far as force users go. The only thing that stands out as a real tank-ish type thing for the Shadow is a passive ability that boosts their endurance. What do ya think?

So is this wide range invite for beta happening at the end of this month or was that just all lost in translation flub? I can't seem to find a legit answer other than speculations.

Not sure how it will work out in the end, but it really sounds like lot of the characters are going to end up being multi role and not so much of a singular specific role. While a person might want to focus on just being a tank, the builds they have shown seem to make it look like players are going to be multi functional, or at least have secondary roles to supplement. Like you can make a tank with some while also being able to perform as a healer of sorts, or a dps. I'm sure there will be an optimum build for a specific task like tanking, but I imagine many are going to see the niceness of having flexibility and that will also play into their character selections.

The Consular got the tank build fairly recently (together with the heal spec for the Bounty Hunter), so that's why you can't find much information about the specific tank build. I'm sure they'll have some kind of threat generation. It just hasn't been revealed officially yet or spotted in the hands-on demos.

They're increasing the numbers by the end of the month.

Well the tough thing here is that these trees are over half a year old. Besides that they're probably very incomplete. I wouldn't trust these too much.

I just hope Bioware will release full talent trees before release. Because the Advanced Classes are such a definite choice, it would be really nice to get some time to figure out what choices you are going to be making. Rather than having to find all of that out while you're in the heat of the game. Most of us have a certain class or roll in mind and would like to be able to map that out before we start playing.

The wide(r) range invitations should start June/July. Thats the word on the grapevine at least.

Ah awesome, I've been invited to test! I actually have been invited before, but my net was down so I couldn't actually download and play the game. So it's odd that I've gotten another invite, but I'm not complaining!

Wish me luck!
I, uh, just got another invite even though I'm already in the beta.

Whoa beta invites flying around like crazy! Too bad they're not landing here :p

That screen looks really nice though. I can sort of imagine what it should look like with the nice smooth textures I'm used to from higher res screens.
Maybe a decent upload on swtor.com for those facebook photo's Speculator?

Thing I wanna know is if those speeders in the back are rideable vehicles :p\

*NeoGAF still recruiting, hit me up with a PM or look us up on swtor.com!*

Even if I got a beta invite right now, I couldn't do anything about it sadly, my gaming laptop gave out on me and now I have to replace its harddrive....

And the PC I'm using is so old and slow, I don't even think I'd be able to run the game on the lowest setting. =_=

Woe was me...

Yeh I'm highly dubious if i'll be able to restrain myself with alting. I've finally picked the class I'm going to play with launch but there are 4 more I really want to get a try at.
With the amount of playtime going into a capped char it looks like for the 2011/12 schoolyear i'll be a hermit, besides going to classes.

I doubt there is anyone who won't be playing multiple story lines across factions.

I sure as hell will be going through every class story.

Yep the individual story lines sound too good to pass up. Ill have my main and in downtime play the others. Main will be a Sith Sorceror but who wouldnt want to play a James Bond like Imperial Agent ;)

Yeah I fully intend on going through ever class story, stupid to pass all that up just to get to the end game and whine when you run out of stuff to do.

Maaan. I really hope this game comes out this fall, or that I get into the beta soon. Had a TOR forum account since September of 09 and I believe beta registered for that long as well. Does anyone know if they choose active forum posters over normal registrants, or is it purely random/computer specs alone?

Anyway, absolutely going Sith Sorcerer. Still torn between Merc or Powertech with Bounty Hunter - Merc's firepower sounds awesome, but Powertechs are gonna be few and far between, so that might be a better strategic move.

The description sounds like a prototypical tank. That's what it is right?

That would be right, though the twist being theyre ranged tanks. I think bounty hunter and trooper tank specs will be the least chosen tank specs looking at the forum polls.

A ranged tank?! Count me in! I never played tank in MMOs because I don't really like melee. This sounds ideal.

Of course I eventually want to pick subsets of classes (so role 4 major characters in total between the two factions), but thats a long way down the road. I want to see what the high end game has to offer first, and when that content has dried up and we wait for future content updates - then I'll start looking into alt's

It's linked to your site account so I couldn't give it to you even if I wanted to.
It's a good thing you mentioned that because I was about to start some serious begging, lol.

And thanks to all who chimed in on the tank discussion. I'm probably going to make the final decision when I can see the actual skill trees.

So imagine how much my stomach sank when I realized that the email address that I have linked is the one I don't check often. Luckily, I hadn't received any invites prior to today. None today either, but I would have been a bit pissed at myself if I had gotten one for an earlier test and didn't know because I rarely check that account.
