Except you don't even need Origins on your Machine to play TOR.

But everyone will get it if they generate enough incentive that everyone buys the downloadable version.

I'm not saying that it will be huge, but the time and resources they put into it indicate that they are cautiously setting up their download platform for the future.

Perhaps EA is trying to create a battle.net style platform. That would be enough of an incentive to play around with Origins.
The battle.net account revamp is one of only good things to have come out of Blizzard for a long time.

Then again, they don't really a gaming library that would require cross game chatting.

*shameless plug*

NeoGAF started recruiting european Republic players. Look us up on swtor.com or give me a PM!

I don't care about DD with this game. I expect a big expensive collectors set which I will splurge on.

Exactly. I'm hoping for super sexy Republic and Sith versions of this collectors edition.
Hope they add an ewok as a vanity pet.

What if the incentives are something like a 3 day head start? A unique Varactyl/Banthas/Tauntaunt/Dewback mount? An armor per AC? Beta access? "Vader: NOOO!" emotes? Given EA is the publisher I expect something like this
I will probably go for the collectors edition as well, but EA has a fantastic opportunity with Origin/The Old Republic. BioWare furthermore made it sound like the pre-order announcements would be a huge deal and eventually lead up to the release date announcement.

I hope it comes out this year. Are they gonna have any other announcements in the next few months?

They will probably have some more announcements at PAX (penny arcade's expo) Swtor had a pretty damn bit outing there last year.
If all goes well it should be released shortly after PAX, since I don't see swtor releasing before that. (PAX is late august)

Yeh that could make for some hard choices. Hopefully the CE will still be preferred over digital download and have the same/more incentives to go for it.

does anybody know if they have done the lightsaber on lightsaber duels justice? Is it a generic slash or is there an actual system where the sabers will clash and look legit, basically like the movies?

From the videos i've seen they seem to have done a good job of matching them up, like in KOTOR

Add that to, Pre-order ME3 origin ver, get a SW version of the N7 armour for your Trooper. Pre-order Mirrors Edge 2 origin ver, get Faith runners shoes on your Jedi Knight, Pre-order Crysis 3 origin ver, get Nanosuit helm for your Sith Warrior. Etc etc

Even if implemented, I'm hoping they'll be limited to vanity items. This is one thing blizzard does handle well. If you get cross game items they will never have stats on them and are always non-combat items.

There is some pretty decent footage showing the saber on saber combat at 1:30 in this trailer

They can't go crazy with incentives without pissing off retail, which in turn affects the sales of all their games regardless of platform. The Origins incentives have to at least be on par with what the stores get.

Origins is a lose-lose for everybody, and completely short sighted on EA's part. I have no problems with it existing, I don't even have problems with cross-game incentives, but to make any game exclusive to an unproven platform is just flat out dumb.

I will pick the awesome physical incentive over any online digital crap as a SW freak/collector.

And EA did an amazing job with the collectors edition of Warhammer Online, I hope for a similarly awesome set like that for Star Wars hopefully.

Luckily for us the game won't be exclusive to the digital platform. You can get the box and whatever pre-order incentive retailers will have in store for you.

I'll be waiting for the collectors edition a well... I want me a big 'ol box.

EA & Bioware are the ones who decide which stores get which incentives. My point is that if they really want to push Origins with big incentives, they have to give equally big incentives to the stores.

They probably stuff the retail version with a cloth map and a Darth Vader bobble head.

That'll make for a lot of cloth maps, good idea with the OP post. I'll whip up a community thread as well once i'm a bit less busy with my last exams for uni.

almost summer, so close :p

I get what you mean, but they will understandably have more minor incentives for origin pre-orders that are constant, with retail pre-orders having box art/books/collectables in the game.

This is of course if EA/Bioware want to peruse this line, they could simply not and SWTOR will be stand-alone.

A cloth map is kind of stupid IMO.

Cloth maps seem work with games with a medieval setting. Like AoC was....

I'd rather have an Atlas book with a map of each planet and their zones.

cloth map would be kind of hard with 17 planets :p

An Art book like the one that game with Galaxies would be nice. detailing the different planetary styles, creatures, buildings etc

The art book EA did for Warhammer Online was great, I hope we get a nice one like that for this game. Like I said before, if they can create a CE as good as the WAR one, I will be so happy. Heck make it even more crazy elaborate and I will toss money at them!

My collectors edition wishlist.

- Choice between Republic and Sith boxes, both boxes will contain same contents:

- Ingame Vanity pet
- Art Book
- Mousepad
- Both Webcomics in printed hardcover editions
- "The collector" ingame title
- Free download code for App for your smartphone (Android or Iphone) detailing all planets and places of interest on them.

As much as I am wanting to play this game, I'll just be getting the standard box retail version from the first place I can easily stop at to pick it up, although I might actually pre-order it from gamestop.

I got all the collectors editions of WoW and also the SC2 one, but I don't think I can justify the cost to myself anymore. Unless the game comes packaged with an REAL lightsaber.

Ah awesome, I've been invited to test! I actually have been invited before, but my net was down so I couldn't actually download and play the game. So it's odd that I've gotten another invite, but I'm not complaining!

Wish me luck!

Though I gotta admit, your responses are very funny! Given me a good ol' laugh! :) Not in a bad way of course!
when did you get the invite and country?

Did you have to fill out a survey prior?

I got my survey email on the 15th, and the actual invite yesterday (21st). I'm in the UK.

And yes SuperAwesome, I did. Though I was told it was purely for collecting data. I didn't know it'd be important or anything. :/

It's just the survey, so it's a temporary invite. The "real" European Game Test has not begun yet. Funny how they said last week, that they already had send all survey emails. Maybe I'll get a second chance to get those questions right!

Some are just luckier than some. We can just hope that they will let us into the next test instead of him :D

I would guess since more than just him have received more than one testing session invite that the 3rd party group is doing duplicate sessions on purpose to get updated opinions from people who played earlier versions

I'm 99% sure I'll buy the Collectors Edition. Wonder what will be in it. Maybe an exclusive companion, or a cool skin for your speeder bike, or a title, or whatever.

Guild still groing at a slow but steady pace. We're now 7 strong.

Look us up if you're looking for a European Republic guild on swtor.com under the guildname NeoGAF.

Just applied to the Euro guild as a Jedi Knight but that could very well change to any class come release.
