Do Banelings do the same amount of damage if you detonate them while burrowed? And can you avoid damage from a seeker missile if you burrow before impact?

If SC2 follows SC1's mechanics, then definitely yes.
In SC1, some Terran pros use a combination of a unit and a tank to eliminate dts without needing detection. They place the unit near the DT and tell the tank to friendly fire the unit. The splash damage will hurt the dts.
As Protoss, some people used a combination of reavers and zealots.

I don't get the point of identifiers...it says "The identifier is used to differentiate characters on Battle.net with the same name. Most players will only see your character's primary name." Yet when I type in a character name it is telling me it's "not available." Isn't the point of the identifier so that you can have a character name and make it unique with the identifier? I'd understand if it told me that I had to change my name after entering the character name AND identifier, if both are taken.

so I suck. probably because I haven't played StarCraft since 1999.
I'm spending my time playing with Protoss and Terran. I think I'm getting the hang of the speed...but I don't necessarially know how or when to prioritize the building of additional structures or certain units over building other units (or more units).
I also have yet to feel comfortable with deploying certain types of vehicles or how to keep them at a certain range (if they're range-sensitive). seems like when I select a group, they all charge in, whether they are better from a slight distance or not.
any advice would be appreciated.

Didn't do so hot in my placement matches, stupidly went banshees in a 2v2 vs a teching Zerg. Another tech fail for another loss.
Probably better players on who jumped on right after patch went live. On a Thursday.
After 2v2 placement played a 1v1 TvT which I thought was pretty interesting.
He proxied his rax, factory, starport, and another factory near my base.
Imagine my surprise after I kill his base to find to find no 'revealed' (He FE'd to high yield) and a Thor coming up my ramp. Luckily I had a hero tank (repair, fire 2 shots, pull back to repair, repeat) and marines gunning the Thor down.
Same thing went for the 2nd Thor. I guess I wasn't really in danger of losing since I had my expo at the top I forgot about but stupid 1st game for placement.
Cleaned up with my 3 tank 6 rine army.
