Starfield has 'Mixed' reviews on Steam (Up: 'Recent' reviews are Mostly Negative)

1. He quoted me first.
2. He was the one to throw an insult, not me.

Check your facts before you start shilling for other users.

And speaking of gaslighting, I know you're just trying to raise some stink with this because of that conversation that we had the other day, and now you have an axe to grind. Cut it out.

What is wrong with you my guy?

No one insulted you that I could see, but if that was the case I'm sure the mods will pick it up.

Honestly sounds like you have some kind of persecution complex, assuming I'm still thinking about some innocent exchange that ended up nowhere in a different thread :D

What's wrong about him quoting you first? You said something he disagreed, so he argued that. Unless there's some new forum rule where it's in poor for to respond to another user in a thread :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Just bring it down a bit ok? We are all allowed to disagree with each other without that being some big offense.

They didn't, lol.

Telling someone that their opinion is bad isn't really an insult. My friends have bad takes all the time, doesn't mean that I think less of them.

But telling someone that they have low standards actually kinda is, and that's what he responded with when I challenged his opinion.

So again, maybe go over that chain of responses twice before you start throwing shades on people. Or don't. I don't really care. It's a bullshit argument anyway so maybe let's just drop it instead.

If I tell you that you have low standards it's an attack on your character, not just your opinion.

And again, you're misjudging me. He actually reported my post to mods, when I was happy to just forget about the whole thing 5 minutes after that exchange happened. Just because I want to defend my character now, when you're throwing shade at me when no one even asked you, doesn't mean that I can't handle adversity. It just means that I have principles.

lol again, I think you're taking it way way too personally. The discussion was in context of a video game and what consists as quality or not. You're definitely reading way too much into it man.
If you don't agree and think I'm wrong in the assessment, that's fine. I'm offering an opinion from a neutral point of view.
There's no reason to get this animated because someone thinks a game is trash and you think it's great. I'm sure you think a lot of games are trash that others think are great. That's fine, i'd rather understand why people disagree than to feel insulted that someone thinks my taste in games is bad.

You have no way of telling how "animated" I am right now because we're just texting. My response to you was measured and calm, and I honestly don't think this is a big deal. But since you obviously felt the need to chime in on a conversation that didn't even concern you and accuse me of gaslighting or whatever, I have the right to defend my position. And that's that.

I still think that the game is great and all the hate towards it is way overblown, by the way.

Ok, sure, just saying how it looked like for a 3rd party observer.

Game sucks ass by the way :messenger_tears_of_joy: (y)

I'm just saying. Just because you've spent a long time doing something doesn't give you the right to insult others for their opinion or make yours more valid. It doesn't make you an authority either. You can spend 50 years doing carpentry but if you're just bad at it and never progressed your skills, that will still make you a shitty carpenter.

saying you should have better standards is not really an insult though, because it doesnt mean you cant have fun with a mediocre game or else you are stupid. It means you should be able to discern what you can have fun with and what you actually consider a great game in general.
I have had fun with not so good games in the past but I'd never call them great games.

And my experience with gaming only means I know what came before so I can make a comparison with what we have today. I have played oblivion in 2006 and fallout 3 in 2008. Bethesda games are still stuck in the past.

To say that starfield is an acceptable experience in 2023 is simply to ignore all that came before it.

Also I did not report anything, unless you mean someone else.

Well you can blame your ucle Phil for this outcome. Game needed at least 1 year extra in the oven, i would say 2 years due it’s size and scope. But no no your uncle had to force Bethesda to release it in it’s state becaue their pipeline was dry as the Nevada desert.

PC steam reviews has nothing to do with PlayStation like you’re trying your hardest hint at. Victim card mentality is pathetic and out right embarrassing. It won’t work around here. Would def work on REEE tho.
Bethesda games will always need to be at least 2 years more in the oven starting from Morrowind till Fallout 76 & you need to know that they will never launch their games free of bugs or top of the lane graphics.
It is classic Bethesda game & I love it. Plans for the game is 10 year support so doesn't meter if they launch it now or in 2 years. That's why all Bethesda games cant score over 8 in reviews & frankly they don't give a shit about reviews.
Still millions of players will get it & play it.

That still implies that I don't know any better, so now you're just talking down on me.

Anyway, listen, I'd love to stay and carefully explain why I think you're wrong, why your alleged years of gaming experience didn't really provide you with much wisdom on the subject, and why I very much doubt that you're even old enough to speak with that much authority. But I think I'd rather just go back to playing Starfield.

Remember how Witcher 3 completely raped Fallout 4 by showing Bethesda how you make a compelling world?

IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN

"In the first few hours of Cyberpunk 2077 you make you first real world best friend who exists as a character in a video game only to cry yourself to sleep when he doesn't make it back from the mission"

Bethesda fans wouldn't get it.

You're right, they should never patch anything in this game. Modders shouldn't do anything.

It's perfect.

Just curious, what core issues actually are. I have 100 hrs in the game. I would struggle to point out something definitively.

Most of it is design choice. Either that, or it's too big and will need a couple more years to add stuff and make it even bigger.

Personally I would play with procedural generation to make it more dense experience.

One being a lack of a map when you land on a planet.

Nice fanfiction.

That's not fanfiction. There is no map. That's one of the main complaints people have had about the game and Bethesda has acknowledged it.

The primary issue and complaint in reviews on Steam are poor performance. This has been the case even with people who have systems that beat the recommended specs. The lack of DLSS is a major problem here and it is ridiculous that it was not included in the game day one. The numerous loading screens is another complaint. These issues have been thoroughly discussed since launch.

Yep. DLSS will be a game changer. It's also a small stupid thing but hitting boost while my grab drive spins up in FP definitely helped with the immersion for me and made it feel like I was plotting a course and initiating the jump.

When you land on planets, there is a map. That's what he said.

Poor performance is an issue. I have it on consoles as well. It dips sometimes. I recently played Skyrim, that dips as well.

I mentioned that's a design decision they want to track every single object they have in the game. And your ship generates these small objects each time you change it. And more objects when you craft stuff using components.

It's a downhill battle if you want good performance from this game.

Personally I wouldn't change this. It's complicated and yields bad performance. But it also means I can buy a house and decorate it with whatever the hell I can find.

He is talking about the very thing Bethesda acknowledged, the lack of a map on the planet. Specifically city maps.

I think the performance issue go beyond just the game's overhead, but that is speculation either way. On PC, which is what is being discussed, as I said, the lack of DLSS is a major problem that should have been addressed.

I just finished the game yesterday and put a lot of hours into it, did most of the large quests and all the factions…

The game is riddled with bugs, freezes and crashes all the time. For that, I remove a point (especially a month after launch with very few patches).

The faction quest lines are cool, but the main story is garbage.

The loading times need to be reduced by 25%, at least.

The voice acting is very good and as mentioned above, so are the faction quests.

It’s clear that this game is meant to be played at least once via NG+, which they could have done a better job of making you more powerful.

The soundtrack is decent.

The combat is sub-par.

The graphics are… not current gen, in the least.

Overall, after playing 10 hours of NG+ and 100 hours on my first play through, I give the game a solid 7.

Could have been an 8 with less loading times and less game-breaking bugs, but no more than that.

It’s worth playing if you have GamePass, however.

I genuinely think if this wasn't a Bethesda game which was hyped to the heavens to begin, it would have done a lot worse critically than it actually did.
Personal anecdote but if this wasn't a Bethesda game, I would not even give it time in a day.

The fact that I absolutely love Bethesda means I will play this disappointing game sooner or later just to experience it. I already bought it. Still wrapped in plastic. Just waiting for a good patch to jump in.

I always try to see something good in Bethesda games despite their drawbacks but it's incredibly hard to do so when most of the discussion seem to indicate they actually regressed.

Speaking of maps, you know what game had maps? Morrowind. Us Morrowind fans lamented the introduction of objective markers and always voiced out to remove it. Bethesda did the complete opposite. Removed maps and made you entirely rely on markers. I wasn't exploring, I was just mindlessly following markers.

I quote Elijah from New Vegas
That thing on your wrist - it's a convenience. It tells you where to go, what to do, dulls your brain.

Gotta be honest, I downloaded it and fired Starfield up for the first time last night. Maybe it was because I was using Game Pass and Windows Store, but performance was poor; with lots of freezing issues.

The game itself just wasn’t worth it. Gunplay felt disappointing (I used a controller, so that may play a part), with spongy enemies. I don’t know, but I don’t enjoy walking into a room with a hundred useless items highlighting in my scanner that I can pick up.
Space fighting didn’t raise my needle either. On the flip side I thought it looked pretty good graphically.

I already uninstalled, and will be switching over to Lies of P and other games I’m interested in.

This is the one great thing about Game Pass; it’ll save you money because you very well may decide you don’t like that game you were thinking of buying.

Played it a ton, near the end but want to find all the things before NG+. Somewhat burned out from it, currently playing Cyberpunk now.

FWIW, the game is still shooting up the list on Nexus Mods and is now ranked 19th of all time. Should be interesting once it gets official mod support.

You know, in the past, it was actually free to try out games before purchasing them. The days of demo discs is gone unfortunately. I still celebrate the ones that do release them even if only digitally.

Steam currently has Next Fest running, where every single game in the fest offers a demo. Demos were a wonderful thing. I remember Xbox 360 having demos for so many games. I think it was a requirement at one point on XBLA.
