Problem is they cant even create their own unique content anymore. Evert here of The Initiative? Neither have I (jokes aside) this was supposed to be their grass roots studio built from the ground up. Money poured into it, working on the new perfect dark and what happens? They bring in Crystal Dynamics a third party player to come in, take over, and take charge of the project which I assume and been restarted or vastly changed
Exactly. If you like Sci-Fi, which I do, and Bethesda games... this is your damn Jam! The review scores won't matter and besides mid-high 80's is a really good score. So far I’m pretty damn close with my prediction. I knew the game would be far from perfect, but it looks perfect for me.
The meltdowns over some arbitrary scores are hilarious.
Hi-Fi Rush? This is an industry problem more than a MSFT problem. What "unique content" has any major publisher rolled out this gen?
Lol reading some replies here you'd think the game was sitting at a 60 metascore.
Private devs are making the best games. Look at FROM and Larian this year, both with fresh experiences in Baldur's Gate 3 and Armored Core VI.This is an industry problem more than a MSFT problem. What "unique content" has any major publisher rolled out this gen?
No. A flop is a 5.So?... it flopped.
Agreed, which is why I mentioned "major publisher"Private devs are making the best games. Look at FROM and Larian this year, both with fresh experiences in Baldur's Gate 3 and Armored Core VI.
So?... it flopped.
Too big to fail. Also, plenty of games that didn't review well, sold well. Destiny, R6S, etc.So?... it flopped.
I don't think they're that influential when it's all said and done. They've become nothing but forum fodder to use as weapons for one side or the other. Doubt many people actually take them seriously.I'm convinced a big reason Alien: Isolation (the best Alien game ever made) sold below expectations and will never receive a sequel is due in big part due to IGNs 5/10 score.
Overhyped doesn’t mean that it’s bad, but clearly the game was overhyped? It’s not like we couldn’t see it coming, the level of expectations set by the Xbox fans was just absolutely insane.
They will just move on to X million people played quickly though so it’s not like anybody will be hurting for long.
Yeah Phil is going to announce MS is going software only tomorrow, probably going to start selling off studios too.
So?... it flopped.
sauce? lmao
honestly you can find posts from me way back during the big reveal when they first said the planets were going to be procedurally generated where I had this exact same concernIGN review just cemented all of my fears. They call the world "barren and lifeless". Said the main missions are way too repetitive. Theres no map, so you will have to rely on memorization, and planet exploration is not seamless like it is in NMS.
The biggest nail in the coffin for me: "All there is to do on these planets is scan trees and rocks" - direct quote.
Baldino:
Exploration wasn't as good as hoped. Very menu-y, loading screens, feels like there's too many barriers and doesn't feel seamless.
Many planets were bland and boring. Most planet dungeons didn't feel worth exploring.
More like the board wants to spin an 87 average as a disappointment.Nah, not a flop, but pretty clearly a slight disappointment, or maybe a little worse. Big outlets not loving it is a huge deal, however this board wants to spin it.
Lol reading some replies here you'd think the game was sitting at a 60 metascore.
Hey it's tied with Halo Infinite on MC.
yup. that's the part deniers do not understand. I thought whole point of bethesda purchase was to get that "holy shit" game that they themselves couldn't produce for 8 years (aside from niche forza motorsport and forza horizon games. even then, they're at the doors of being holy shit and not necessarily holy shit games)I mean it's obviously not, but a ton of reviews are out, and it's absolutely a disappointment. This game had to be earth-shattering, and it's merely "very good."
Microsoft still hasn't had a consensus "HOLY SHIT" hit in years.
Game reviews from "Journos" are about as important as my night time bed farts.So?... it flopped.
More like the board wants to spin an 87 average as a disappointment.
No doubt.Sweet, that means it's gonna win Gaf GOTY
ByWatterson is right though. 87 is still a pretty good score, but Starfield was supposed to be one of the Game of the Generations. It's definitely not that.More like the board wants to spin an 87 average as a disappointment.
You know these people are just trying to poke because they even hate its getting an 88 or soI predicted a score of 90 and so far it looks like I'm 2 or 3 points off my expectation for this game. I'll tell you if I think it was overhyped after I play. This review score drama is a very old tale that has played out exactly like this many times before. I'll just have to see for myself.
I don't think they're that influential when it's all said and done. They've become nothing but forum fodder to use as weapons for one side or the other. Doubt many people actually take them seriously.
Can anyone recommend a review that goes deep into combat?
That depends if Edge / EG gives it 6/10 or 7/10. If both give the game 10/10, it could still end up us 87 or 88.Likely to be sub 85 after more reviews come in. Edge and Eurogamer still to come.
