Bought and played a few hours last night and I'm really impressed. I had my doubts but you guys were right! Theres a lot to it and it's really well done minus the jank.

For anyone that might be interested, here's an interesting thread on the official forums about the stuff that was cut.
Seems some additional stuff like vehicle types and generators were also cut. They don't touch on any story cuts, but with a developer posting in the thread, we might get some interested tidbits of info.

I was wondering the same thing. Guess they decided not to remove it completely because they might patch it back in or perhaps they changed its use? I haven't checked, but is it used when repairing vehicles or when you expand your base?

Has anyone ever run low on fuel? Maybe the game will tell you why you need it then.
Is there a way to flip a car over? It's stuck upside down and it's a story mission and the dumb ass NPC don't want to follow me around. Objective is to get in the car but I can't since it's flipped over. It disabled all the other quests too so it since I'm stuck there forever? It autosaved BTW.

It also is used in the workshop to make many of the explosives.

Yes sir. It is nice for maltove cocktail doodads and those mine thingies that burst into flamey stuff.
Detailed aren't I?
The Workshop is great. You can build explosives, repair broken weapons and if one of your survivors is a Tools Expert, then you can upgrade it so you can repair cars.

Seriously, it's amazing me how little I've scratched the surface after playing for close to 30hrs. I definitely need to stop exploring and start focusing on base building and story missions.
Yes, infestations hurt morale in the long run. They're also easy as hell thanks to cars.

There is just way too much **** going on early on for me to get anything done.
I'm having a lot of fun but I hope if they do a sequel they do some things differently.
Here's my wishlist:
Persistent online world (Not an MMO. I do not want a game where players outnumber the zombies.)
Zombie population grows in your game as other player controlled characters die.
24 hour day/night cycle.
If the player chooses to allow it they can lift the quarantine, allowing survivors (friends) to enter their world, even when they are not online.
Each player has their own locker where they can place and retrieve items they've found across various worlds.
Each player still has their own enclave, but "communities" can be formed with other player controlled survivors. Outposts can be established in each other's games. Resources from these outposts are global and can be used in any world, or traded between friends.
Outposts can be upgraded, much like bases. NPC survivors can be stationed at outposts to help defend them.
Better base and enclave management. NPC survivors will not run off on their own, unless you order them to.
You can send NPCs on missions to clear out locations on your map.
If destroyed, vehicles eventually respawn.
Loot from containers is not shared between players. For example, friends can search the same dresser and find different items.

I feel like I've hit the usual open world game wall I always do, there isn't any "real" thing to go do so I no longer feel like playing. My group is fine, basically upgraded everything I can in the church. Getting more supplies then we can use. Basically drove around the entire main road system and never found a larger place for us to move into.
Little motivation to do much else. If it is strictly about survival, I've already "won". More then enough supplies all over the place and we haven't had any attacks on our home base. Combat against zombies is pretty uneventful. See a horde? Plow through them with a car, then gun it in reverse. Horde dead. Otherwise its just meleeing over and over, with the occasional gun action if I get bored.
And the technical problems are extremely disappointing. Simply driving forward fast enough causes the game to drop to single digit FPS loading in the next chunk, and the pop in is horrendous.
This game has lots of pieces that interesting, but misses a core hook to keep me going. Don't really care about the story, and there really isn't a great focus on base or group management. Focus for the game is very spread out, and I think it suffers for it.
Not a bad game by any means, but not great enough for me to overlook the technical problems and dump hour after hour into this.

Don't know, but generally reversing into them does less damage to the car.

First off, I beleive you have to progress the story to a certain point before you can move, and there is plenty of places to move into. Not sure how your missing them.
I really, really hate the big guys. They take so much fucking damage.
Maybe play some more of those main missions? Enemies and conditions get tougher as you advance the plot.

Wow, the neighbourhood I just walked into. American flags and guns in every room - P90s, AKs, modified pistols. I'm all tooled up for the zombie apocalypse now, haha.
I'm in the last base now, up north. It allows you to have all facilities except one. I skipped the garden since food is so easy to come by anyway (or all if you only have one sleeping quarters). Gearing up for the final mission, which people on achievement forums are saying can actually be failed and if you do fail, you permadie and it's game over? WTF.
I'm still suffering mysterious disappearances of all my snack supplies. Are these NPC fuckers stealing them for their useless runs?

FYI, to all people feeling like the game can be overwhelming(not talking about the menus)
The game is about a zombie apocalypse and RIGHT after it. So the devs aimed for that feeling and that stress. Anyway just wanted those who are maybe completionists and so forth to sort of understand you can't do everything.

Press up on the D-pad, go to the very right to see your home and there should be an empty spot on the floor map where you can start building a workshop if you have enough materials.
To get materials, you need to search either houses but mostly when you come across garage shacks or warehouses where as you're searching, the question marks will turn into the round balls material icon. It's usually in a crate and you'll have the option to radio home, where then you can call a scavenger to pick up the materials. Be wary if the place you've found for materials is far away, the scavenger could be set upon by zombies and you'll have to manually escort him the way back to make sure he gets back home.

You can't. Either have to find a new base with more space or prioritize and remove an existing facility
I think when you highlight a resource in the menu's it show at the bottom of the screen what your max stock is for that specific resource.

lol, I'm a dummy. I saw as soon as I finished typing the post. I'll make a note to myself to read the menu's more carefully.

This game is so great. I really like how it fucks you and when it does, it fucks you hard.
I played like 12 hours straight on Wednesday when this came out and didn't have time to play it yesterday. I come back today to find out that two of my guys are dead, one was killed while hunting for stuff outside, the other was shot by some dude from my community because he was about to turn.
Now like an hour later the game tells me that some other dude is in a very bad condition. You can hear him coughing so I decide to kill him for the good of the community. I take him into an empty house. He knows what's coming and knees down. I shot him in the head.
Bloody hell. That was one tough moment.

Is this scripted? Or can you choose any house to go to, or go to a field instead?
Finally managed to unglitch the game. Coming home when there is some crisis reset some of the states it seems.
So how do you trigger more of the story missions. Nothing is going on anymore. I did all missions I could for the army, the courthouse and the rednecks and nothing but the copy pasta find the missing morons are popping up.

Yeah, my game is in a no event state as well. Still waiting on the army missions and hopefully the last after that.
I tried to check for you but I'm too lazy to start the game on a new account (so I end up at the bottom and don't have to scroll through 80000 pages of names to get there).
I did notice that some jackass has already hacked the leaderboards and placed himself on top of all of them, though. And how the hell do people have such insane fame numbers?! There's hundreds of people with tens of thousands of fame points. I have 500!
