Yeah, I occasionally poke about the registry. (Stop sitting on Tintin and King Kong, Ubi!) My cynicism won't allow me to believe it until I see it, though.
Its definitely happening. There is no way a coincidence like Halo 2 service being postponed to June, Arkham City/Asylum/Bioshock 2 all receiving significant updates, GFWL being abandoned.
Just too much evidence pointing in that direction, I feel pretty confident that we will see something very soon.

I do agree, but they may want to promote their old title when Dark Souls II comes around.
They are going to have trouble living through a PR nightmare of just letting Dark Souls out to die.

I don't see it being shut down, though, at least not any time soon, as continued use of GFWL games would be contingent upon all of them receiving updates to remove it. Plus, if MS is preparing to nuke GFWL, where's the Steam release of Gears PC?

Wouldn't that be amazing if Epic was working on Fortnite and updating Gears for Steam at the same time?
I haven't actually seen a registry entry for Fortnite yet.
I don't expect a GFWL shutdown to be immediate, but probably sometime in the next year or two. I don't think Microsoft cares about residual profits that much, they haven't bothered to released Halo 2 on DD at all, discount any game, or release the majority of them on alternative distribution.

It could be tucked away as a VTA. I Am Alive actually released as a VTA as Ubi forgot to update the name.
Given June ends this Sunday, I suspect Microsoft will finally announce its plans for Halo 2's MP support tomorrow.

Some new screenshots were released the month thereafter, but as far as I can tell there's been nothing but radio silence since.
Valve has let non steam keys register on steam before. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve lets GFWL retails keys register on Steam if they switch the DRM to Steamworks.

I tried to load the page before but it stalled at the redirection. It's in the first week of July, right? That would mean Halo 2 would be without MP support for at least ~a week. Not exactly a cataclysmic event, but I figured Microsoft would have something in the pipeline so the transition would be smoother.

On a more serious note, The Way Back is good, though a little long (2h13m) -- it drags on a bit here and there but the performances are strong and the film is littered with some fantastic shots.

To be fair amazon probably wouldn't try so hard to price-match / beat Steam prices if there wasn't a Summer Sale in the first place. Plus, this year many will have free money on their Steam wallet thanks to cards so they'll be more inclined to spend money directly on Steam rather than stores selling keys.
