It still works and will eject the battery but there's a nice rattle now, I'll probably just put some tape or blue tack on it to hold it in place, video here

Other impressions

The dongle stand is pretty weighty so you probably won't have to it stick down
ABXY buttons feel kinda small
Throw on the bumpers is about the same as the one on a 360 controller, they work when press anywhere unlike the xbone controller
The click at the end of the trigger pull feels great

Maybe put a warning to go easy with the battery installation in the OT lol.

Says the vid is corrupt, but your other impressions sound promising.

I will. Can you check if your grip button for that particular side actually works? The impression some people have given is that the same release mechanism for the batteries, is the grip button too.

It works fine, if you look at the video I posted the buttons for the grips are actually right under were the eject symbols are.

I've had no time to play anything with it, just messed around in BPM with it.

But it feels well made, once the batteries are in it has a nice weight and balance to it. It's quick and responsive and the keyboard in BPM works really well, quickest onscreen typing i've ever done!

Setting up configs in my library is very easy too, not many custom ones available yet but I'd bet by the end of the weekend that will have changed.

Can't play anything until this evening but so far I'm very encouraged. :)

Good stuff. I'm still awaiting the post, but probably will end up with it tomorrow.

EB Games Canada just sent me a payment failure notification. I'm assuming this is similar to the glitches that the Amiibos caused their system?

I haven't been able to call in though. I've left a message.

EDIT: I just realized the email said the charge didn't go through for $67 of my order (controller and link total was $135). I think it's fine but wanted to give people a head's up.

I just got off a call with EBGames support. They authorized the controller and link as two transactions for who knows why. The way support explained it to me is the second auth for the link failed (First auth was for controller, got text from bank about that one), and that he manually resubmitted the payment auth for the link for me.

Definitely call them to get it sorted.

Could you try some games that make heavy use of the DPAD, like a platformer or shmup, as well as navigate some RPG menus? I've always been very intrigued by the Steam Controller but would like more impressions of its touch-DPAD.

IIRC the dev of Super Meat Boy loved it.

I'll try super meatboy with it this evening, seems like a good, heavy test for it.

Got the last info (I think) needed for the IHS/Link thread. Could go up anytime, but I might wait for some Links to go out first.

Webms don't play on some phones/browsers here it is on Youtube

Worked in Chrome, but thanks. Did it rattle before? Because Dogg in the Steam thread asked if it could be the gyro as it also rattled in the WiiU controller. I don't recall any dev or tester talking about rattling, so it indeed might be the lever, but it's better to be sure.

I'd like to ask if there's any FFXIV players who usually play on pad that have tried this, and how well, if at all the game is with it. Reliability of regular dpad hotbar use. Ease of reach to that and face buttons mid battle. Battery life. Right haptic pad for camera, and what not.

Just played meatboy. Less than 60 seconds in and it feels perfectly normal. Reponsive and quick, easily as good as a normal dpad.

Also played Tomb Raider (picked at random) with a mixed config of gamepad and mouse, very very good and a real step up from my DS4.

The level of customization you can do is amazing. I'm thinking that if you are willing to tinker with your settings, you're guaranteed to find a control scheme that you like.

It's the real fucking deal guys and gals!

Thanks for this. I finally got through and sorted it out. Controller is shipped but I guess the Link won't ship until tomorrow (I think).

Nice. I put an note in the thread I'll put up later though, particularly about the lack of bindings available right now due to the controller just being released. I'd expect the bindings to accumulate pretty quickly in the upcoming weeks.

Did you adjust the 'size' of the dpad at all through the settings?

Oh this gives me a lot of peace of mind, I just had the same email.

Tried calling them, waited for like 40 minutes and they never answered, hopefully its just a glitch then.

Ech, looks like I won't be getting mine today..

Strange, since every other thing I get that's First Class shows up the next day. I suspect it actually got posted today..

Call them again. You have to call to authorize the attempted payment for the Steam Link. It will go through this time.

There was an error with their systems or something for the early pre-orders.

Any impressions on the Steam Link?, Im starting to get anxious, I recently got the PS Tv and the lag is horrid, at the same distance, the nVidia Shield is way better but still not where I would want it to be, really hope that Wireless AC card in the link gets the job done.

Just used it as standard dpad binding so far. I'll return to it later and really start fucking around with it. But its damn good. Like, all other controllers just became old fashioned to me, kind of good.

Turn your haptic feedback up to high when you use the d-pad. If you do so, you can feel it rock onto "virtual" buttons after you click the pad.

The problem with PSTV is the 2.4ghz connection over wireless. You can do direct connect wifi but you need to have the PSTV close to the PS4, which defeats the purpose.

A wired connection is ideal but not everyone has that setup.

I have been doing remote streaming with Xbox One and Windows 10 and the quality has been a lot better. Not flawless but I have been able to play Halo multiplayer through it at times without much issue. Single player isn't a problem.

I expect the Steam Link to be pretty good.

If you can feel lag, then you're going to need a wired network.

And people wonder why the Wii U has such a short range.

I just called a few Gamestops. The first one said they were no longer taking pre-orders, but the second one is (at least for today). They said that there's no proper release date in their system beyond October 16, although they said they can only start giving them out if they have the controllers there at the store, and he said he hadn't checked shipments to see if they have them yet. Because they are going to be available tomorrow, today is the last day they will take pre-orders because you can't pre-order what is already out, and he said that I couldn't just buy it normally tomorrow either. Temptations :/

Any impressions with WoW? I imagine that even with the Steam controller the limited amount of buttons will end up being an issue but for non critical tasks like fetch quests and stuff I hope it would be usable.

Weird logic. It's out on the 16th. But you can't buy it? Okay :)

To the people who have it. Have you tried with the major emulators (e.g. Dolphin/nullDC)? Is it easy to plug/configure like the 360 one?

So another day and it still hasn't despatched for me. (UK). Disappointing but I suppose it does say on the Steam website it is estimated to ship on the 16th, so I'll save anger for if it doesn't ship tomorrow.

So I have an Xi3 Piston. Remember those? It was the very first announced "steam machine" before valve came in and said "nope, it's not a steam machine."

Came in this morning. Pre-installed with Suse.

The steam controller doesn't work on the thing, lol. Only device I own that flat out won't recognize the steam controller. Maybe I need to install steam in Linux... but I have an ubuntu box and the steam controller was recognized immediately on it.

I called my local Gamestop for the hell of it and they said that their date for the controller is November 10th even for people who have had preorders. He made it sound like they don't have anyone who will be able to get their hands on one tomorrow.

More than possible I reckon. Left pad for WASD, right pad for 4 abilities, L1/L2/R1/R2 for 4 more abilities, XYAB for mount, interract/accept quest, loot, and something else?

Can play a Warrior with one hand as it is, so this shouldn't be too hard.

Are you from Europe by any chance? Anyone in Europe who has actually heard their Gamestop pickup is ready for tomorrow? I haven't heard anything (they almost always call/text the day before) and I don't have high hopes for tomorrow either.

Damn, where in Ireland are you? Dublin here, just got home from work and I'd be devastated if I missed them. What company delivered it, and did your GLS tracker update?

So jealous! :D

I'm in Mayo. Never checked tracker or anything. Just got a dispatch email from Gamestop yesterday and it arrived at lunchtime today.

I'd bet its waiting at home for you.....

Edit: just realized you're home already. Weird. I've no idea why I've gotten mine then!

I'm excited to try trigger button modifiers, sort of like Dragons Dogma special abilities. Four abilities for XYAB, four more for L1 plus XYAB, four more for R1 plus XYAB, etc.
