Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

I can't remember what games I purchased this past week. That's probably a bad thing. But is there an easy way I can find that out? My activity feed just shows my last purchase.

I 've got Cities: Skylines € 18,75

Ultimate General: Gettysbourg € 2,99

I got games worth more than € 50 from GoG and i have to buy the FFXIV expansion too.

This was my first steam sale since a couple of years where I didn't buy anything... feels strange. But having a job and life I have to cut back a bit on my gaming hobby. I have the money to buy games now but I lack the time. Back then it was the opposite. Well, that is life, I guess.

Is Final Fantasy XIII a good port?

No, but at least it's tolerable right now. On launch it was locked to 720p, but now you can go to any resolution with some really strong AA without using third party software/mods.

There's still some framerate drops, but it's a Final Fantasy game. Hardly the end of the world.

Is FFXIII-2 still a pile of shit on PC with weird vsync type issues and graphical glitches which SE didn't fix from FFXIII despite being made (and acknowledging) aware of?

So there are a few games out there that I'd like to buy but, for a variety of reasons, haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'd preferably not spend more than €20 at this point.

List of games that appeal to me in multiple ways, but pricing may be a little high right now:
- The Talos Principle
- Ori and the Blind Forest

List of games that are rather cheap, but I'm not sure I'd like it:
- Transistor
- The Banner Saga
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (primarily due to the "demo" things I heard a lot about)

List of games I'm not even sure I'm going to play very soon, but are considerably cheap for the amount of content:
- Hitman Collection
- Metro Redux Bundle
- Fallout Classic Collection

Games I played and enjoyed a lot the PS3, and just want them for "collection" sake:
- Assassin's Creed II
- Dark Souls II (Scholar of the First Sin)
- Borderlands 2 GOTY
- Far Cry 3

So what happened to big steam discounts?

The old rule was anything over a year old would end up under $10 during a big sale, but now we're seeing even older games like Watch_Dogs, Wolfenstein, Black Flag, South Park, etc all in the $15+ range. Bad ports like Dead Rising 3 and Asscreed Unity are still $20+.

Are people actually going for these subpar deals enough that publishers feel justified doing away with 75% off sales?

Guess I'm waiting until Christmas sale for DS2 then. I've already played the original version so that price point isn't worth it to me. Now i have $20 steam card in limbo. Still, i got Metro Redux bundle for $10 so it was a good sale for me.

Maybe publishers realized doing high discounts fast is not the best way to maximize revenue.

Christmas sale we will be getting hyped for Dark Souls III early 2016. Might as well just avoid the game at that point so you don't get franchise fatigue.

There has been some drop off in deal quality, but I think the overall perception of decline has a lot to do with the abundance of bundles, consoles shifting substantial effort to digital download and having their own sales, and more steam re-sellers saturating with sales.

There's still a ton of great discounts, but it's not the only show in town. And I can only buy games once.

I mean, whether they get my $5-$10 now or in a year, it's still $5-$10.

The only way that would make sense is if they're seeing that a substantial number of gamers are willing to spend $15-$20 on games equivalent to what they would've spent a third or fourth of that on last year.

Still on the fence about hand of fate.

May need to wait until next sale.

None of the RPGs I wanted were on super sale this time, but I still spent $45 or so, mainly because I really wanted to play Cities Skylines now.

Okay that's it, I'm done. I need to stop spending money.

So far I've bought:

Alice: Madness Returns
Ori and the Blind Forest
Skyrim Legendary Edition
Tales from the Borderlands

I know that for me personally when steam sales got extremely good a few years ago. I stopped buying games until they were under $10 or at least 75% off. Games were being discounted so fast that a $60 game was 5 or 7 bucks a year later. It's really damaged my value of games.

I think publishers are testing slightly higher prices or at least slower to drop prices. I don't think I blame them though too much as pc prices have gotten a little crazy cheap over the last few years.

Want to get DS2 Scholars but I already have DS2 and the prices are weird. Is there any difference whatsoever if I get the normal version and not the upgraded one or vice versa??

Thing is, PC games kind of have to be crazy cheap to make up for the immensely expensive hardware.

I can afford to pay $40-$60 for a PS4 game because the system itself costs as much as a decent PC graphics card. Paying $20 for a year-old game that I'm only marginally interested in, on a system that costs twice as much as the consoles, makes no sense.

At some point, a PC in general stops making sense when sites like Amazon are having seasonal console game sales with discounts equivalent to Steam sales.

I have bought a number of games - but thought I would give quick feedback on some of the high discounts in case someone was thinking about one.

One Finger Death Punch: Exceptionally great for <$1. Totally worth it after 45 min...and I have a bunch left. Must buy at price.

Ori: Great art, music, style. Solid platforming "metroidvania" with Studio Ghibli art. Combat elements only passable (better platformer than combat elements). Highly recommended.

Lisa: Undecided - rough in some elements of design, dark story, iffy gameplay so far, but has potential.

Valiant Hearts: This reminds me of the Brothers game - great art, heavily story based. Gameplay is not strong, mostly just a vehicle to move the story. Still I played it through and it did make me drop a tear. Recommended, esp if you are a story person (I am not..but still found it worth it).

Metro 2033 Redux: Significantly improved over normal version. Game runs so much better, better balanced. Recommended if you enjoy strong atmosphere FPS with some survival elements (limited ammo, etc).

Valkyria Chronicles (from earlier sale): I am disappointed - great game when playing the game, but so much story which moves too slow. I love turn based combat like this, but I wish I could just get to the gameplay....

Hexcells: Wow...so much fun for a "simple" puzzle game. I bought the bundle based on recommendations - amazing....and I am only half hour in. Highly recommended.

I bought a number of others but haven't played enough to give feedback.

If cost is your only variable of interest then maybe that is true, but the experience, variety and range of options and customisations make up for it by a longshot.

So whats the deal with ARK? Seems from reviews is that you just die a lot while you aren't even playing the game.

Other than that it looks interesting, but there are... so many games like it now and a studio I have never heard of.
