The sales of 'Stellar Blade', which was released on the PC version on June 12, have been revealed.

On the 16th, Shift Up officially announced that the cumulative sales of the post-apocalyptic open world action adventure game Stellat Blade exceeded 3 million copies across all platforms. This achievement was made in just 1 year and 2 months since the release of the PS5 version in April of last year.

In particular, it has been reported that the PC version achieved 1 million copies in just 3 days since its Steam launch. In other words, it has been confirmed that the cumulative sales of the PS5 version were 2 million copies as expected.

For reference, the highest number of concurrent players for the PC version was 192,078 last weekend. Although it unfortunately did not reach 200,000, it did exceed 190,000, which is the highest performance for a single-player game among the PS5 game ports launched on Steam by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).

Most developers can't even dream of reaching over 100K ccu on Steam during launch, let alone a PC port of a year old game. It missed 200k, but 192k is some big ass energy, especially for a character action game.

Unless your name is Devil May Cry, Character Action games typically don't see sales figures like this. Turns out if you make a good game and make your lead hot as fuck, people will buy it. I mean I know this formula has existed since, gee I dunno, the Ancient Greeks when they crafted statues of Gods and Heroes, but how nice of people in the 21st century remember that sex fucking sells.

Wow! I'm sad I didn't enjoy the demo because I really wanted to like this game, but regardless; I'm very very happy this game is such a huge success! 😁 👏🏻

Society is telling developers that sexy men and women are good for gaming and that's what people want. Make more of them and reap the benefits of doing so. Sex sells and it always will.

Yeah but they could only get away with it because they're asian devs. Western devs are still occupied with erasing/hiding cleavage on their female character models (Oblivion remake).

Western devs have a habit of covering women up and making them manly and or flat chested and flat assed AF. It's like they think that people love to look at unattractive men/women.

I think the only recent exception I can think of is like BG3. And hey that sold amazingly well. But Larian are Belgian devs so I'm not sure that counts.

Western studios are still held by the balls by modernized HR. No one has the guts to even try and conceptualize a game like this out of fear of getting ostracized or fired.

Iconera fuming...they hate it when their ps games do well on PC. And reeeee gping crazy boobs won. Man, what a bunch of whackos on both sides, this is the only "normal" forum

Amazing performance and sales!

Also need to calculate this based on how much smaller the budget for Stellar Blade is, like 1/4 of FFVII Rebirth or 1/5 or even 1/6 the budget of the more expensive AAA games like Outlaw/AC Shadows/Veilguard. Combined that with a new IP instead of a well known one and they did beyond amazing.

Also did beyond amazing and surprised even me on the PC version as it's a LATE launch single player game. I was even sure it'll get pass Rebirths 40k let alone above all the other late launch games and then reaching 100k and then even 192k So I was way off.

I predict 2.5 million copies on PS5 at the very least by the end of this year. And 2.5 million on PC by the end of this for a total of around 5 million by the end of 2025.

Yeap altho technically the Oblivion remake was developed by an Asian studio (under supervision of Bethesda of course).

Hot take incoming....
To be quite honest, from what ive seen of a couple of reviewers, the game doesnt seem like it does very well in many aspects besides graphics and (sexy) character design, compared to others. Electric Underground in particular really tore it down which is funny especially considering before he played the game he made a big video defending it and talking about how important sexy characters in video games were, only to completely change his perspective the moment he actually gave the game a shot.

I think this guy knows better than most youtubers when it comes to critiques on game design, he is quite consise and describes a lot of the problems with modern gaming game design quite well, so I take his reviews seriously when it comes to gameplay. I disagree with him on a couple takes, RE4 remake being one, but he's a very enlightened guy when it comes to discussing the science of what makes a good, skillful gameplay loop. sorry to shill, but I like his content.

I'm curious why the game did so poorly on PS5 but it's doing so well on PC.
1 million in 2 months and 2 million in ~14 months is hardly doing poorly. It's just doing incredibly well on PC, easily going toe to toe with mid-tier AAA games.

I'm about 1/3rd of the way through it and it's been fantastic so far. And I honestly don't give a flying fuck about the gooner aspect; game is just really good.

PS5 version was released last year, so 2 million in 12 months on a single platform for a new IP is very good

Its a shallow 6.5/10 game made by a mobile dev. People glaze it because fap material must to be defended. I mean, just look on the few threads about the game here on gaf. Literally everyone is talking about her looks, nude mods and half naked outfits. In what kind of games is this the subject pretty much 100% of the time? Well, hentai games, the ones made to be played with one hand because just like stellar blade, it has nothing else.

I was expecting 3 million sales on PS atleast, its has 76k reviews. For a comparison point, astro bot has 50k reviews and a bit above 2 million rn

There are shit tons of horny games out there that don't review or sell as well as Stellar Blade has. It's a gooner game for sure, but it's a fun and well made gooner game that people enjoy playing. You can look at the First Descednant with it's 250k+ concurrent players on launch, and then dropped like a fucking rock after, because the game itself wasn't good.

Nobody is arguing it's a 9/10 or 10/10 game. Most people who love Stellar Blade are in agreement it has flaws and is a 7/10 game. But it is a very solid 7/10 game, and you don't need a game to be a 9 or 10 to have fun with it. Even ResetEra of all places has a ton of people on there who really like Stellar Blade.

Good. It's nice when a good game is successful.

Now that I got to actually play Stellar Blade after the Steam release, I do like it. Not going to call it revolutionary or anything like that from what I've played so far, but it's a solid game. I'm surprised by how well it runs but doesn't seem to be using that much power on my setup. The Mods are a nice bonus.

I see the second article and raise you...
Also PC Gamer, from the same scribbler as the first article:
"Find love and abandon god with this $20,000 fully customisable Baldur's Gate 3 Astarion sex doll" (Archive.is)

Not going to spend a lot of time unpacking just how stupid Joshua Wolen's "article" on Stellar Blade is, but to go off the Twitter bait headline alone: When your coverage of a game soon after its PC release is the percentage of "smut mods" (as if these haven't existed for countless other PC games for decades, congrats on having basic vision), then maybe just shut the fuck up about it entirely.

I've known that PC Gamer has been trash for a long time, so this doesn't surprise me, but this all reeks of Vice or Kotaku-tier shit. Hopefully they go down the same way. This in particular reminds me of the Dragon's Crown nonsense backfiring.

Amazing game. It's only fault is it's 2 explorable areas look too much the same, and some low res textures here and there. But other than that it's an amaking action game. Put over 100 hours into it. I just wish they would add a new game ++ to go along with the new content. People hating on this game is sucking down too much soy.

They don't sell as well because they're all f2p shovelware lol, First Decendant, one of the laziest and shittiest looters around, is one of those titles. The reason why Stellar Blade sold well is not because it's a gooner game. It sold well because it's a very high quality gooner game. The dev put more polygons on the character and her strip club style outfits than every level in the game. You compare the detail of her outfits to the environment and how low res, uninspiring and ugly everything is, and it's pretty clear that they had only one goal in mind, lure in every single gooner there is. Which they've achieved.

On resetera you probably can't even say what people really think of the game. You'd be seen as a "chad" and get your ass banned.

Great news seeing a lot of healthy success with a lot of Japan Games reaching over 1 million via PC. Games like Stellar keep gaming fresh.
