Street Fighter 5 has sold 1.4 Million Units across PS4 + PC

Capcom planned to ship 2 million by the end of March 2016, they shipped only 1.4 million, so they missed their target by around 600k and people here are celebrating that it didn't sell that bad lol

huh?

What am I missing? Isn't it sold?

EDIT: yeah, not seeing where it says sold so I'm assuming we're all going with "sold-in".
Until they say otherwise or not.

To be completely honest, I think they released it as early as they did to prep for EVO exposure. The fact that their Story Mode will be patched in during June means if they tried to complete the game as a complete package they would probably miss the event.

Yeah =/

Though that begins to lead into other questions like why the lack of communication? I personally believe that is one of the most important parts of this kind of service they're going with. Communication to help stomp out issues, keep players notified on how things are going with development and fixes planned or still being worked on. They've stayed silent way too much. Sometimes reassuring players about upcoming things helps put many at ease that they're listening in some form.

Absolutely. Alex's launch was a farce. Guile's was better but their communication about upcoming content is sorely lacking.

Ya PC turned out to be not worth the effort for Capcom. Should have been exclusive to PS4, from purely commercial point of view.

- Cross-platform infrastructure hassles

It was worth, if only in perspective. I honestly think going forward this is gonna be a huge factor in keeping a healthy fanbase in niche genres. If you know there's still people playing on PC, you're gonna buy it for the plaform you have regardless of it not being "the FGC console"

?

Ono flat out tells us this and you're making an argument? He says it wasn't the "only reason" meaning there's more than 1 reason but that is a reason why the game was released the way it was. It is a reason. Are you seriously going to try to argue about it being the "only reason" and "a reason" lmao?

Again, this is not an argument, you flat out agreed with me.

As for your comments on "the only reason why the game is better for hardcore players-" yada yada, you can keep talking about that all you want but that's not why the game released the way it did. I know why hardcore FGC members can keep playing this game, it ain't new. The difference is those players still got the game while most casuals didn't, the difference is Capcom released this game with the bare minimum and because of the Capcom Pro Tour so unless you think the Pro Tour was for casuals I don't know what to tell you. We know why the game released the way it did and the Pro Tours one reason. Casuals aren't the Pro Tour demographic, that's hardcore fans. Hardcore FGC members will get the game regardless so they gave the game minimum features and set up a tournament for those fans. Casual fans? It's not focused on them hence the lack of single player features which were shat on which didn't help out casuals getting the game in the long run. It's no debate here and it's no argument so I don't even know why you're getting defensive and responding against me. I think you just got offended because you assumed I said the game was perfect for hardcore FGC members when I didn't, I said the game released the way it did because of them. This goes back to my comments earlier about a lot of people being defensive towards this game because the gameplay is fun, I said it was fun since day 1 and yet I'm still telling it how it is. It's really not that serious.

You're agreeing with me and yet you're trying to argue, I'm done responding to you since you're literally on the same side as me and yet you responded defensively for some reason.

God bless lol.

I'm not agreeing with you at all, you're delusional and purposely ignoring anything that doesn't agree with the conclusion you've jumped to. I'm not "getting defensive" either, you literally misstated information to try and support your argument.

You claimed Capcom said it was "the reason" why it was released when it was, but Ono clearly stated it wasn't the only reason. The game likely shipped when it did so they'd get the sales in before the end of the quarter. The fact you think pushing the start of SFV in the pro tour is higher priority than that is laughable.

You think they made combos easier and removed option selects for the pro players too? LOL.

They're trying to sell the game to as many people as they can, but they really botched the release. If you want to think that's because they wanted to please progamers, I guess go for it. It seems a lot more likely that they rushed it for thier financials rather than to save face for cancelling one or two events

Game needs a new re-release with more content. Hopefully Capcom can pull a Diablo 3, both games core gameplay allowed them to live after a disastrous launch.

That's in March. They thought they'd hit that with the barebones release they did. To quote you:

Capcom vastly overestimated the demand, as they normally do.

I know...i found out later in the thread. I still find the number very respectable. Capcom ain't as insane as Square-Enix when it comes to estimates though!

Man so many people that want the game to fail, sad times. I hope the story mode next month will give it a decent bump in sales, but even if that is only shipped it is far from the disaster that I was fearing.

I love the game, and I can see why people are down on it as it was released too soon. But to want it to fail? Man that is cold

I like the game, but I'm glad I got it for $10 when I got it because of the lack of content.

Capcom are probably looking at doing a Super edition with all the single player content and the Season 1 characters before next fiscal year to get those sales up.

I think in the US, according to NPD, on PS4, it's at like...350k~ copies sold at retail. So...with 150k~ on Steam (a WW number), you need 900k copies on PS4 elsewhere. The figures don't add up. It's shipped to retail + sold digitally
If there's one game you should buy digital is a fighter, no need to put in a disc everyday and you can play easily on a whim. SFV is always to the left on my PS4 bar for. eg. I think most of the hardcore who are not tournament organizers bought digital and even many TO's bought digital too.

I dunno, I feel kinda bummed seeing so many people on an enthusiast gaming forum wishing failure on a game that has amazing core gameplay because it lacks fluff. It feels like a bizarro world where people judge the quality of an open world game by how many collectibles are littered across the map.
Very strange to me too. I'm happily surprised it did so well, in the coming months it should do even better since so many characters, modes and fixes are coming through. I hope Capcom hits 4-5 million when all is said and done, this is a great fighter, even though my character (Gief) is not so strong, it has some really good mechanics and it's fun to watch.

Ya PC turned out to be not worth the effort for Capcom. Should have been exclusive to PS4, from purely commercial point of view.

- Poor Steam sales
- Cross-platform infrastructure hassles
- Different input lag
- PS4 players blocking PC during MM anyways for fear of cheats
- PC modding destroyed future microtransaction revenue
Even for USF4 PC was a problem with rampant cheating; macros, leaderboard hacks, pp and bp hacks etc..Capcom could have cleaned the leaderboards, but they didn't even bother.

The PC version without vsync is a much smoother game input wise, really wished capcom would get the PS4 version on that level (input wise), there's just too much input lag still, so playing PC players may be to the disadvantage of PS4 players atm. In any case, I hope more people purchase the game and that Capcom improves the matchmaking and input lag. At this point, it's still taking a bit too long to get a match. With 1.4 milion people owning the game, matches should be coming much faster and more frequently. I do hope more people buy this game regardless, because at it's core it's a great fighter.

I am one of those 1.4M sales thanks to the $10 Amazon glitch. I'm looking at the sealed copy in front of me right now, figure I'll open it after I work down my current backlog. The lack of content for the game right now doesn't give me any sense of urgency to start it until it expands.

Steep decline for the franchise. Capcom, like so many other members of the old guard...mismanaging their biggest properties into oblivion. Seems like the Japanese giant's best days are well and truly behind them now. I hope they find a way to work with SNK to complete the CvS trilogy before their fighting game output is finished.

Why don't people think it sold 1.4 million to customers ?

The hate boner for this game is quite something. Capcom fucked up the launch spectacularly, but I think a lot of people thought (hoped) that it had done a lot worse than this.

The lack of content, broken matchmaking and lack of rage quit solution were ridiculous, but there's a good game in there. This gives me hope that Capcom will support it and make it the god tier game it has the potential of being. The gameplay is there at least, which is the only reason I play it as much as I do.

I might consider it after June update.

Wish I had entry level casual peeps like myself to play with.
Do have one friend, but can feel a bit hard to coordinate with him.

Maybe Capcom can sell the IP to SNK.

So we successfully managed to fund arcade mode. Another 2 more million sales and then we'll have the ability to save training mode presets like in SFIV and maybe even have the instant replay function in training mode.....but that's a stretch.

Yeah, even if the game had sold really well I think that would be the way to do it. It gets them back on the shelves for a new release and gives the new players more content.

It's a pretty common suspicion in threads. The fact the game had a very poor launch and the figures thrown around in earlier threads were much lower so that likely influences things too.
Yea but if sold 350k retail. 150k steam. factor in digital and WW. I don't see why it's so unbelievable.

People always question these numbers, especially when GAF has already "determined" how much a game has sold. If you look back at the threads where Sega put out a press release about how Valkyria Chronicles sold (Around the time the new game and port were announced) a lot of people were sceptical about those too because they were a lot higher.

It doesn't help that shipped figures have been provided in the past to pad press releases too.

I don't think we'll see PC numbers move much until the game gets more content or the prices down or likely both at this point.

Console gamers might be willing to put out $60 for a barebones game, but I don't think PC gamers are, specially without the big fighting game presence that consoles have.

I know I was interested, but reading about the bare bones state of it at launch and other issues, plus the price tag, put me off. Put it up at $40 with some more content though and I'll deifnitely bite.

The good thing is that it's cross play so I don't have to worry about a small install base making me and other much more likely to pick it up later.

I doubt PC users will gain overall advantage from a 2.4ms difference, input lag consistency is more important here. Also tourneys use PS4, so pros with PCs are at a disadvantage.

Good for Capcom. I haven't done my part yet, but I'll pick up a physical copy of Street Fighter V in June once the full arcade story mode is in place.

The lack of content, broken matchmaking and lack of rage quit solution were ridiculous, but there's a good game in there.

not to be a dick..
"lack of content"
"broken matchmaking"
"lack of rage quit solution"
[in a multiplayer only game]
and then i read
"but there's a good game in there"
the whole thing doesn't really ring a favorable bell there..
plus consider that among those number, there are collectors like me, that will buy a fighting game regardless, just for collection sake.. I have *yet* to open it :)

Don't worry guys once story mode is in the sales will skyrocket so fast we won't be able to play anymore since capcom will be in space :[

Capcom nailed the hardest part of the game- the actual mechanics. Why in the hell could they not fix up the online punishment system and add a compelling story mode? Surely this couldn't have been rocket science.

Well I did my part. Bought it for 70 euros. Capcom fucked up the launch tremendously, and the game still has quite a few issues (where's my proper ragequit solution Capcom? Unbelievable that I still get to fight rqers on a regular basis), but the core gameplay is really good. Hope those sales are enough for a season 2
and the return of my man Hugo

Maybe Capcom can sell the IP to SNK.

Unless Capcom sinks and gets their IP pieced off in auction, gets swallowed up or merges with another, like so many other longtime gamemakers have over the decades, they'll license and collaborate at most. No doubt in my mind that NRS, SNK, or ArcSys would be better stewards of their fighting game IP at this point, though.

That's coming next month.
