Make Werdum and Ubereem fight next, give Fedor the loser?

Then hopefully he goes to the UFC. One can dream.

If Rogers gets a title shot after getting KTFO by Fedor, I don't see why they wouldn't give Fedor a title shot after being careless and getting himself caught in a sub.

I say give Fedor the WINNER of Doom vs. Reem.

He'll probably wait close to a year before fighting again, anyway.

Why are people talking about Brock losing? Brock planed for his last 3 fights.

I think my friend just made a nice payday on this one. The Fedor era was unparalleled dominant, but all things come to an end.

Well, half of it was. The second half was made up of freakshow fights, (Zuluzinho, tiny Matt Lindland, giant Hong-Man Choi) and guys with limited skills or simply guys past their glory days (all the rest).

Seriously, the best two guys this guy fought in the better part of the last FIVE FREAKING YEARS was Arlovski and Brett Rodgers...that isn't much to hang your hat on when it comes to claiming "unparalleled" dominance. The last half of the "Fedor era" has been a sham.

Now he finally fights SOMEBODY, and this is what you get. Illusion over.

How long are Overeem and Werdum under contract in Strikeforce? Dana's probably going to be hunting for them soon (specifically whoever wins in their match).

I think Shane is going to knock out Lesnar, but I've thought that for some time now.

I mean, Fedor got careless... it happens really, the fact it took this long is what's most surprising.

Fedor fights are too few and far between, he should just finish up his Strikeforce contract and retire as one of the biggest legends in MMA.

Good question. I'd definitely like to see Brock or JDS destroy Overeem along with that douchey smug look he always has on his face.

Ubereem is actually a pretty chill guy. Why're you hating?

Dude just has a face and overall disposition I don't like. Can't even really explain it, he just rubs me the wrong way.

I know.. I'm a Brock Fan.. Like I said, I can't explain it.

Ah okay. Also Brock is an awesome jerk, still remember when he was still amped up after beating Frank Mir and started shit talking about the sponsors and giving the finger to the crowd.

Werdum was pretty much pushed out by the UFC after going 2-2 and coming in out of shape for the fight against JDS. He was offered a large pay cut and obviously rejected it.

Was that really it? I must have missed the reasoning behind that title shot.

I'm a Fedor fan, but the whole era with him and M1 is bullshit. Even his interest in politics seemed to be a convenient exit strategy if he had won tonight, allowing him to duck out of an Overeem fight.

As Wallach pointed out, the fact that he beat Fedor is going to make him a target for Dana. And if can take out Ubereem then that would seal that deal.

Wow, I forgot about this tonight. I walked into the house and turned on the tv right during the Fedor post fight interview. I made an attempt to hurry and close my eyes and plug my ears, but the dude looked like his family was about to get whacked by the Russian mafia. Totally ruined. Going to watch the fight now I guess.

Watching the sub again, Werdum actually does about a quarter of a sweep on Fedor, rolling him into the cage (which Fedor seems surprised by) and in that split second he gets both legs in as Fedor tries to move back from the fence.

Sick stuff. I think the fact that Werdum knew where he was and Fedor didn't cage-wise played a part in Werdum getting the sub.

Perhaps but I see Dana going the other way with it and spinning it as a guy who got brutally knocked out and wasn't good enough to make it in the UFC just beat the apparent best fighter in the world who has been dodging the new breed of UFC heavyweights.

I'm not saying Werdum isn't good enough - Just the way Dana might spin it seeing as he can be a complete cock at times and its going to raise the stock of JDS significantly.

funny post on Sherdog....even though I wanted Fedor to win...

"Werdum not only beat Fedor, he stepped on all the nuthuggers to...look closely at Werdums left foot after he got up "

and another post...

Fedor should have took advice from Anderson Silva.
"And not follow a bjj world champion to the floor, where its the only place they can win. "

I agree with this one....there was no way Werdum was going to beat him standing....it seemed obvious he was just going to lay there waiting for Fedor to punch and eventually catch him.....and it worked.

I think Gilbert Melendez did it best verses Ahinya Aoki.....kept his distance and kept control even though he was on the ground but still got some good hits.

:lol That's awesome.

Sherdog's Fedor jockriders are on suicide watch right now.

It's awesome.

And of course, the others are trolling the jockriders like mad...bringing up great threads like this:

Kenny Florian's MMA live comments about Fedor

Did anyone listen to Kenny's comments about the Fedor/Werdum fight on MMA live? He sounded like a complete idiot. He said Werdum has a better sub/ground game than Fedor... which is false, and of course he made the comments about the competition that Fedor has been facing or the lack of competition. What heavy weight fighter has faced better competition in the last 5-7 years?

http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f2/kenny-florians-mma-live-comments-about-fedor-1243463/

:lol :lol :lol :lol

I love guys like that. When people try to explain to him that other HW's have fought better competition in the last three years, and that's what matters, he stupidly plays the "But Sylvia, AA, and Brett Rodgers were all ranked higher than Shane Carwin was when they fought Fedor."

I guess he hasn't heard about that whole TIME thing. You know, that thing that makes a young fighter rise, and old fighters fall. Or the fact that since Tim Sylvia fought Fedor, the only events he's been booked in were sub-minor league events in terrific places like Birmingham, Alabama, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Worcester, Mass. If Tim Sylvia were still even slightly relevant to an MMA discussion in 2010, he wouldn't be headlining an event called "Moosin: God of Martial Arts" dood.

Fedor underestimated BJJ. Plain and simple. Going into the fight he thougt Werdum would have Nog level jiu jitsu, which was a mistake. He underestimated Werdum and his grappling.

Fedor will be inclined to do more freakshow bouts in Japan (which I like) and maybe Barnett.

Werdum now has a permanent meal ticket in Japan and can get huge money just freakshow fights and crazy commercials.

had a wedding i was forced to attend so i missed the fight live, just got home and watched it, ultimately very disappointing, but i guess fighting not to lose does have it merit :/

fedor got pretty careless after dropping werdum, and got subbed as a result, looked like another maybe zulu or timmeh fight before maybe the sub

gotta go check out sherdog to see the fallout, should be entertaining

Yeah that's the same kind of shit Leites tried to pull with Anderson but Anderson didn't fall for it. Fedor was too reckless, but he has always been reckless.

Was at a wedding, but it was pretty boring so I was checking this thread for the fight results and saw everyone go crazy.

There really is no substitute for a legit BJJ black belt when it comes to MMA submission defense, eh. Fedor doesn't seem to train with anyone anywhere near Werdum's BJJ level. His training methods didn't get called into question much before, but they're certainly a point of interest now. That old school methodology will be marginalized more and more in the MMA world of today as our old heroes like Fedor and Nog fade. It's already happened in the other divisions, but at the shallower heavyweight pool it took a little more time.

But it's cool. Fedor's the man for what he accomplished, and this won't change that, just the aura of invulnerability and the hype. I'm fine with that, and fine with where we're headed as a sport.
