Duh, we spend less time tweaking game settings and capping for reject consoles which leaves more time to do real thangs.

my girls, gays and theys own any combo of Switches + PS5s + PCs...

whilst the rest own Xbox only...

I don't know if there's a link or not but the most intelligent folk I know all have a PS5 or are getting one very soon.

Yeah, it doesn't seem right when you look at the numbers but just run them through the formulas and you will see how little of a sample you need.

To give a real life example, the Nielsen TV company, the ones that published how many people watched TV shows back in the day, had 800 households to represent the entirely of the biggest TV markets. So Philadelphia, NYC, LA, etc all had their ratings determined by 800 households each. Advertisers spent billions of dollars based on these ratings, so they must have been accurate enough.

i save a lot of money on not having to buy thousand dollar GPUs every few years to play what are generally the worst versions of ports of console games.

WTF.. where was this done NYC? I don't even make 50k a year (around 45k + with overtime) and I am in my 40s. My wife the same, but makes about 5k less, but we live comfortably and own a home, 2 vehicles, no debt, 3 pets. I highly doubt the average individual salary is 60k. Most jobs in PA don't pay that unless you are in a high demand trade.

You have people in the bay area making 300k, people in NYC on 200, people in south Florida on 100, and yeah, people in PA on 50. that's how averages work.
And in those areas, even with a number 4x + as big as yours, those people might have a lower standard of living than you.

$60 is fine, its 70 that is a bridge too far. I will only pay that for select releases that I really want to play ala slient hill 2, dragons dogma 2, elden ring, kingdom come 2. Every thing else is wait for a sale. I have over 1000+ games in my backlog. Own all the systems, have retro and classic modded consoles for everything else. I can wait.

I only make 45k but work from home, so car maintenance and gas is very low compared to when I used to have to drive an hour to and from work. One reason i don't make more, to get a big raise it would require more responsibility, and going on site. Which is 90 miles away. nah I'll take my cush job where i can play pc games for half the day while I solve peoples problems in between.

Well, if you're price conscious then yeah, that gives clues as to where your financial standing lies. If money isn't an issue, then you would focus more on the value.

According to Steam's hardware survey, the most popular GPU on Steam is the RTX 3060.

Vast majority of PC games have mid or low tier GPUs.

RTX 4090 = 0.91% of all GPUs on Steam.
RTX 4080 = 0.70%
RTX 4080 SUPER = 0.55%

These numbers seem astonishingly low TBH.

You can’t actually. You only achieve statistical significance over the population that you sample. Anyone who tells you otherwise is making up excuses to be lazy to extend the conclusions of the study over a wider population than the math allows. In the context of this post, if the sampling was only done in the US, for example, then the conclusions only apply to the US.
