8Bit, Riz, B'zchan, how are you guys doing? I've finished my CDs and I'll send them out in the middle of this week.

Heh, Yoshifumi....I only have one of those tracks on my mix. Considering how many of the artists are in the same genre, if not the same, I think that's pretty good.

I'm curious as to how much it'll cost to mail CDs to Switzerland, and how long it'll take for them to arrive. I hope it's not too bad. I guess I'll find out on wednesday when I mail them.

Eminem

goddamit, Griese!
I kind of put them up there in the order I thought they should go, but it doesn't really matter. It was really hard getting it to flow well because there are quite a few different styles of music on there. I mean, the first and last tracks are worlds apart.

So you could listen to it in the order I have up there if you want. Not really a big deal. Chances are most people aren't as versatile in musical tastes as me, and will wind up only liking about half the songs.

and btw sporks, i have yours downloaded, but still need to finish listening to it. once i've heard the whole thing i'll post my impressions.

My three are complete, and two of them will be going out this week. I'm still in need of JackFrost's new address, before his can be sent.

Mixes: complete. Cover art: selected but not photochopped into cd cover form just yet. They'll be mailed out: sometime in the next three weeks when I have enough spare cash and time to take care of it. In the meantime, here we go!

organic-farmer.jpg

1. Morphine- "I'm Free Now"
2. Gary Jules- "No Poetry"
3. Bonnie "Prince" Billy- "A King at Night"
4. Beck- "Guess I'm Doing Fine"
5. Cowboy Junkies- "Sweet Jane"
6. Gary Jules- "Untitled"(note: this is the "hidden" track on the cd, and there's like 40 seconds of silence at the beginning. I was too lazy to get rid of it, so use it to reflect on something cool like breasts or world peace or some shit. The track is worth the wait)
7. Jeff Buckley- "Last Goodbye"
8. Wilco- "Theologians"
9. Morphine- "Cure for Pain"
10. Lou Reed- "This Magic Moment"
11. The Beta Band- "Dry the Rain"
12. Bonnie "Prince" Billy- "After I Made Love to You"
13. Gary Jules- "Mad World"
14. Rufus Wainwright- "Hallelujah"

inorganic.jpg

1. Thunderball- "Vai Vai"
2. Erykah Badu- "On & On(BLAME VIP)"
3. High Contrast- "Remember When"
4. Goldie- "Sea of Tears"
5. Big Bud- "State of Mind"
6. Big Bud- "Pure"
7. St. Germain- "Rose Rouge"
8. Thunderball- "Heart of the Hustler"

The first cd is mostly acoustic, lighter rocking kind of stuff. The second is all electronic, mostly drum and bass. Both are about an hour long. I would send them out tomorrow, but I have absolutely bled money all weekend long and am now flat broke for the next week or two, to the point where I need the money to mail yer mixes for ramen and beer. Sorry fellas, but priorities are priorities. So I guess this post was just to taunt BuddyC, StrikerObi, MJQ Jazz Bar and Fifty.

It'll probably cost about 2-3 of your US dollars, and arrive within a week. Unless you're a rip-off ebay merchant.

Great. I live in Canada, but hopefully you'll realize that once you send me my mix :p

Hehe, it shouldn't be bad. I hope you like it.

goddamit, Griese!
i dunno if there's a review thread or whatever, but i'll post this in here.

sporks mix:

track 1 - nice and a bit soothing song. not exactly my style though =P
track 2 - not bad. i'm not a huge fan of songs with lyrics that aren't english, but this is a nice little light song.
track 3 - lol, now this i like. groovy. sounds like some light 80's rock.
track 4 - some sweet video gameish techno. i likey. favorite track on the cd so far.
track 5 - nice, short instrumental. pretty catchy.
track 6 - not bad, but it didn't really click with me. i liked their instrumental better.
track 7 - again, another nice little song. guitar sounded nice in this.
track 8 - nice female vocals. i'm a sucker for piano in songs, so that was a nice touch. this actually reminds me of what Imperial Teen would sound like with a female vocalist. Really good song. Tied with track 4 for my favorite song.
track 9 - I don't think I would have minded this song if there was no singing, but that totally ruined the song for me. not a horrible song, but I didn't care for it.
track 10 - this sounds like something I'd hear on an oldies station. good stuff. gotta like the singing in this one. good song.
track 11 - pretty good song here. reminds me a newer, more hip-hoppy bob dylan =p a little long, but a good listen. the end is surely annoying though.
track 12 - i liked the small build ups in the music. and the music around 2:30 is awesome. definitely my favorite part of the song. the vocalist sounds good too. another good song.
track 13 - this sounds scarily similar to Elliot Smith, just not in English =p good song. nice and light, with an excellent build up throughout the song.
track 14 - music reminds me of The Dismemberment Plan, which is a good thing. the loud parts are a bit different. loud static with the music faintly hear in the background. very different indeed. a nice closer.

overall, definitely music I never would have heard anywhere else. Only one song I didn't like at all. Every song was at the very least tolerable, with about 5 or 6 really good songs. Definitely some different stuff on there. Pretty neat stuff. I give it a good/10

Do you mind if I send CDs without tracklists? I'll post the tracklists on here. I just hate handwriting stuff, and I don't feel like coming up with any cool artwork.

working on my playlist, i'm finding that several songs from my spring mix make apparences here as well. no one should notice, or care really, because i'm sending this to different people. and damnit raoul, you used two of songs i was planning on (beck, wilco).

i've got the bands picked, now i just need to work on songs. oh man, is this going to be a conglomeration of genres.

Heh. Sorry. Put another Wilco track from "A Ghost is Born", I have the album but it's always good to hear. And may I suggest "Lost Cause" by Senor Beck?

I'm actually looking at a b-side called "Not For The Season" for the Wilco fix. I used "Lost Cause" on my last mix, and I may end up using it again - I just don't want the mix to be all sad bastardy.

So I'm sending my mixes out tomorrow. No fancy packaging, but I've got 2 CDs, and this is my first time doing it. I didn't have the artsyness in me. Riz III, you gave two mailing addresses, one for before July 31, and one for after that date. If I mail it tomorrow, that's roughly two weeks away, it should be safe for <31st, but I never know with Canada Post. I might just wait till the 31st to mail it. Post here and I'll do what you'd prefer.

Apparently last night wasn't the night to work on my mix, as my power supply crapped out halfway through my efforts. I replaced it today, but no telling when I'll have more time to work on it. Soon, hopefully.

I've finished up my mixes. Two CDs. One that flows and has a general theme; the other is just a conglomeration of different genres and styles. I'll upload them later tonight to Agent Dormer's server, and get them sent out to my group members later next week.

Just an update, I suppose.

My mix is still a bit in progress, I'm trying to decide whether to use two CDs or trim it down to 80 minutes(it's at about 95 right now).

My CDs will go out on Monday, whether it is one or two per person I do not yet know.

14. If I Go Mad (Funeral in My Head) - The Flaming Lips

While these may not flow as well as my previous mixes, I really wanted to express a variety of genres this go round. The first disc is mostly alt. rock, with some rap, hip-hop/r&b (give it a chance!), techno, hardcore, and a little funk on the second disc. All I ask is that you be understanding, focusing on the song rather than the order in which they're played. In fact, I would go so far as to encourage the use of "random" when listening. A digital version will be available for download later tonight, while group members will receive hard copies in a week or two; gotta do cover art and buy CD-Rs/

For my groupmates (Archaix, =W=, and Jim Bowie):

CD's are done, packed and ready to go. I intend to mail them out tomorrow morning (that is, Friday, July 16) so you should be seeing 'em sometime next week. I had a great time putting the mix together and I hope you enjoy it!

Hey do you remember how I said I was sending my old mixes out?

Well they are actually ARE finally going out next week. And the liner notes will have my (bullshit) reasoning behind the delay. I hope it was worth the wait!

Here we go - after numerous technical issues, I'm proud to present Disc 1 of The Oddest Music To Make Love By, nicknamed Photocopy Music. This is more of a one-genre deal compared to the other disc, mostly alt/indie rock. Download it for the first track alone, then stick around for the awesome Bowie cover and the hopeful Lucky Pierre finish.

Like I said above, all I ask is that you be understanding, focusing on the song rather than the order in which they're played. In fact, I would go so far as to encourage the use of "random" when listening.

I want to note that both of my discs are 100% iTunes-ready, making it damn near painless for iPod (or other ID3-based MP3 Player) transfer; just drag the playlist in, and you're ready to go.

if dormer runs out of space/bandwidth i've got some reserve, so the more the merrier i say.

my review of sporks' mix:

track 1 - cute voice. i bet she's hot.

track 2 - good stuff. i like the space rock noise attack at 4mins

track 3 - i slept like an hour last night so unfortunately this track is starting to put me to sleep. it's good though. the synth noise pop wall thing is hot.

track 4 - this is awesome video game music

track 5 - i love the pillows
track 6 - someday i'm going to marry them

track 7 - the opening riff is very early blues rock. japanese pop guitarwork has the most awesome naivity. it's something that's been returning to indie pop in the us slowly but surely and i think it's totally great.

track 8 - chorus sounds korean? she sounds like that incredibly high pitched idol that was in golden bowl

track 9 - a trip ...BUT TO WHERE???

track 10/11 - TOO MUCH ENGLISH

track 12 - he's totally serenading someone. IS IT A GUY???

track 13 - i'm all out of jokes
track 14 - and all into AWESOME

overall i really liked this mix. in fact, i liked the pace so much (soft pop -> crazy rocking out pop) i stole it for my mix. i also really liked the yurayura. in fact i grabbed a couple LPs. good stuff. japanese music is kind of a puzzle wrapped in an enigma for me. on the one hand it's awesome. on the other hand, sometimes it's such a different way of looking at western conventions that it's a little off-putting.

anyways, buddyc was right. we should do these mixes quarterly, as long as more people get into the highly rational digital mode. more reviews to come!

I have plenty of space and bandwith left (2.x gigs and 20 gigs respectively) so no worries on that front. The server seems to not be up right now. Emailed the admins in hopes they can get it back up quickly. It shouldn't be a long delay.

I'll be uploading my mix when the server comes back up. It's... interesting.

Fart, i can give you the rest of the yurayura live album if you want it, its quite rad. and no hes not seranading! its a sad song ;_;

Ill start writing reviews after i listen to a little bit more of buddyc's first disc.
