Sunset Overdrive: “no plans for a PC version right now,” says developer

I'm getting kinda sick of all these threads. I get that a lot of you don't have Xbox Ones and don't plan to get them, but do we need to make threads every time a dev says that there are no plans for a PC version of an Xbox One exclusive? I mean, isn't this just port begging?

It's worse.

I don't think SO/Insomniac deal is that similar to the one for Tomb Raider.

Insomniac are an independent developer looking to produce a new IP and needed a publisher and funding to do that (for it to release in its current form anyway)

TR developed by Crystal Dynamics is an IP and developer owned by Square Enix who are a publisher themselves and have enough money to make it, presumably MS either offered them a lot of money or they went to MS and gave them a price.

I can't imagine a world where Microsoft offered a deal to Insomniac to help create this new IP and got no rights to possible sequels or anything if its successful, Microsoft aren't stupid.

The TR deal, given the ownership of the studio/IP you'd expect to be multi platform, the same doesn't apply to Insomniac who can (and seemingly will) make deals on a series basis to do whats right at the time for exclusivity or otherwise.

Now, we don't know what the deal is, but as I said, Microsoft aren't stupid, they won't have made a deal that gives them nothing beyond the first game

Microsoft will make a deal equivalent to whatever money they put in. Neither of us know how much that is. Insomniac would do the same to protect their interests. There is a reason they are holding on to IP ownership. Basically everything we are saying here is speculation and "Microsoft isn't stupid" isn't a logical argument. It has nothing to do with their competency, just the extent of their investment.

No plans right now...

And no, not port begging since they didn't say 'No plans at. This is a X1 exclusive. End of discussing'.

Dead Rising, no plans and then what do ya know... on Steam.
RYSE, no plans and then what do you know, on Steam.

Except this isn't a port begging thread. This is a thread about a comment from the developer who pretty much confirmed the gaming is coming to the PC.
That is not what I got. It sounds like a non-answer to me. He neither confirmed not denied a PC version.
In a weird way, he didn't say anything

Pc port begging seems to kind of overlooked

Instead of typing single phrases sentences and questions without explanation. Why not explain what is wrong with an xb1 game coming to pc, why it is unlikely here, and why this thread is "bad."

It's a mega thread of people turning a non answer, literally saying they have absolutely no plans or thought for a PC version, into

"So, next fall then?"

This happens for every xbox game announced nowadays.

I doubt anyone would think Halo 5 would come to PC in the next 5 years, nor that something like gears next will come to PC, or probably even the Remedy's game will come to PC given how they are developed.

Looking at this game's development being similar to DR3s and Ryse in terms of who owns the IP, wouldn't that point in a different direction?

Or is that unrealistic.

In GAF's defense, all credit goes to Capcom, Crytek, SE and (probably) MS for all the PR double speak around exclusivity. Nobody trusts their responses anymore! It's kinda hilarious. And sad

I'm pretty sure every Xbox One game exclusive has a thread talking about the imminent PC release. I understand if he said "maybe", but he literally said "no plans".

Yes. Insomniac owns the Sunset Overdrive IP so they can do whatever they want with it. Make a PC version, iOS version, Ouya version, sell the IP to Putin as far as I know. Correct me if wrong.
There's IP rights, and there's publishing rights. Insomniac owns the Sunset Overdrive IP, but Microsoft owns Sunset Overdrive the game.

Insomniac can sell Sunset Overdrive merchandize, but Microsoft has control over the game. It's their call if they want to release it on PC.

It's unclear if they own publishing rights beyond xbox one (you can have publishing rights for individual platforms). Also, someone still needs to develop it if they want to release it on PC. That call depends on the nature of the deal between MS and Insomniac. If Insomniac doesn't want to release for PC (because they lack the experience), they need to decide whether to outsource it or simply say 'no'. We don't have details on any of that. All we have to go on is what they choose to reveal to the public, which isn't much.

Well that could have to do with MSs nature of acquiring exclusives? Also the historical precedent of their exclusives coming to PC?

Halo 1 came to PC, Halo 2, Gears 1, Ryse, Dead 3, Mass Effect, bioshock, etc... they have a tendency to get games for a window of time from such third party devs.

There is also the precedent of other game devs saying pretty much the exact same thing o purposefully wording their exclusivity statement like some weird lawyer.

Obviously this is not cut and dry, but pretty much anyone could see how the chances of this occuring are not eactly equal to zero just because some dev said it. Devs have been known to say things... that are half truths or things which dont admit the actuality.

Rough translation from developer hogwash to truth:

"We aren't going to announce our PC version until after the XB1 version launches as per our agreement with Microsoft."

I'm buying on my friend's Xbone with Gamestop credits but I'd buy it with my own money on PC if I like it.

This game would look fantastic at 60fps.

In what world is making a game available to more people a terrible decision? In any case, it's a world I don't want to live in.

Why should honest, hard working Xbox One fans go out and support an IP they believe to exclusive only to see their faith in the developer met with indifference and scorn as they abandon the Xbox One and the fans that made their IP a success for the PC crowd who didn't appreciate their IP enough to support it in its infancy?

It's a slap in the face of all honest, hard working Xbox One owners and I say enough is enough.

When I read the title the first thing that I thought of was this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/28/shock-konami-still-wont-confirm-metal-gear-5-on-pc/

That person pretty much said the same exact thing, even though MGSV was multiplatform to begin with.

Lol.

I'm sorry hard working X1 fans, I didn't mean to disrespect all the hard work you guys do everyday.

You're trolling, right? Hard working Xbox One owners?

I would be pretty excited if this happened as I just sold my XB1 to buy a new pair of 970 graphics cards. I wonder how much releasing XB1 exclusives on PC actually hurts the sales of the XB1 console.

Is this a working man's IP?

Trolling?

If not, the solution is pretty simple: buy a PC or a PS4 because Microsoft is always gonna treat you like shit.

Seeing how Ryse and DR3 made their way to PC, i'm pretty confident this game will too at some point.

Doesn't look like my cup of tea either way, but more power to PC gamers.

Will gladly wait for a possible PC version. And Quantum Break too, if Alan Wake is any indication. If neither ever happen, gg MS.

Huh? I can't say I have ever felt I have been treated like shit as a MS console owner... or as an owner of any companies console I have.

A lot of people saying nothing should be exclusive. So you also believe there should only be one console that runs all games? I mean... having exclusives is a major driver of competition. Those exclusives wouldn't get as much funding to be made without it. Seems like a very silly argument. Plus I love the variety of controllers, interfaces, OS, etc. especially since everyone has their own preference.
