Super Mario Galaxy 2 |OT| with >NEW< hat!

When i went to grab Red Dead last night, the girl told me that Gamestop's "new policy" is to mostly only order enough copies for preorders and maybe only 3 extra copies for each store location. To me it sounded like BS, but can anyone in the know confirm?

Secondly...if i didnt preorder Galaxy 2, where would be the best place to grab it Sunday?

Any retail store will have it as soon as they open on Sunday.
Walmart, K-Mart, Target, Best Buy.

I'm not "in the know," but it'd be ludicrously stupid of them not to order more copies of a guaranteed seller like Galaxy 2, no matter how much they're trying to push preorders. A policy like that would make a lot more sense with a game that's likely to sit on shelves forever.

I think you can pretty safely chalk this up to BS.

Just a couple notes:

Timed speed runs where you must collect stopwatches to add seconds to the clock.

A Bowser level featuring 2-D platforming through his castle where gravity constantly wraps itself around in different ways... first you're running on the floor, then on the wall, then the ceiling... all in 2-D. Amazing.

Awesome.

There is only one type of Mario spoiler I cannot give in to. And that is music spoilers. So I clicked that Koopa Road link and wanted to watch it so bad but was able to close it in time.

NOW, on to the real question. HOW IN THE BLOODY HELL DO I GET THIS EARLY!?

What're everyone's top three stars in SMG1?
The main one that I remember loving was Luigi's race in Freezeflame Galaxy because I love the ice skating and having to time the jumps correctly with speed. I also loved the one with the boss spider that you had to platform your way up, and I guess the final boss level would be third.

Best Buy, Walmart, Target. Call first though.

Then Gamestop is stupid, especially if they have any of the other stores around their area.

"Oh sure, fine, you don't have extra copies of the most anticipated game for the Wii this year, guess I'll have to struggle a whole two minutes to Best Buy next door. You fucking dumbasses, gimme my goddamned game."

What Gamestop needs to do is stop taking the games out of their cases. That is why I don't like buying games there. It's like buying used but paying full price.

They open 1..maybe 2 copies of well big sellers, to put as display boxes.
For more niche copies like a Persona or something, if they only receive 2 copies they open both or just put 1..

But is not like they open every game they receive...and heck if you whine and complain a lot, some stores give you a 10% off that open copy..as long as it's really the last copy...but that depends on that store's manager since is not an actual policy.

That's been the line they try to pitch when they want you to preorder. It has been the case for some titles in the past, but we're talking smaller known Atlus published titles or something - not Platform megaton games. They'll have hundreds of extra copies, as will every other retail store on the planet.

$60 for Galaxy 2 in Canada, brutal.

I don't want to wait to get this game but I also don't want to pay $60 for it. Fuuuuuudge.

Whats the best deal I can get with Mario Galaxy 2 at the moment?

$20 giftcard when you order from Amazon.

OR

$20 off any Mario Wii game (including Brawl, NSMBWii and Mario Kart) with purchase of SMG2 at Target.

Not necessarily. My mom wanted Walk It Out and the two local Gamestops each got in one copy, both were gutted. Amazon to the rescue, I'm not giving an open game as a gift.

That if they receive 1 copy they open that 1 copy..if they receive 2 copies they either open both or 1...but with games like GTA, Mario, etc..were they get dozens..sometimes hundreds of copies they open 1 or 2..but unless you wait months to get it, you'll get a wrapped copy..and even in those cases they are constantly receive new ones.

Also Gamestop.com is giving a $20 giftcard, but unlike Amazon or Target..they only sell games.

Hmmm....
Melty Molten- Sinking Lava Spire
Rolling Gizmo Galaxy
and, oddly enough
Gold Leaf Galaxy- Purple Coins
I just really enjoyed that one.
Nah, man, Gold Leaf PC was awesome. A great run through a pure platforming section.

Gotcha, I misunderstood what you were saying. Still hate that practice.

Could you buy two copies of Galaxy 2 at Target and get the second one $20 off? I have a friend buying this day one as well and if this is the case we will probably go in together.

Not sure if that would work, but I doubt it.

Around here (Los Angeles area) that's not "new" at all, Gamestop has been doing that since at least 2005 if not longer. If you walk in on Day 1 of a new release and try to buy a copy, their spiel goes like this: "You want a copy of _____? Sure, that just came in this morning. Did you pre-order? No? Oops, sorry. Can't sell it to you without a pre-order. We only got enough copies to cover our pre-orders. We might get more in a few days. You really should have pre-ordered. Next time don't forget to pre-order. Sorry! Buh-bye!" Sometimes they'll mention "We got a few extra copies, but they're gone." And then to add insult to injury, no matter which other retailers you call, NONE of them ever receive their shipments on Day 1. They seem to have their own spiel too: "Nope we don't have that game yet. Nope we don't know when we're getting it. Call back on Friday. Call back next week."

I don't like Gamestop, a lot of their policies are suspicious if not just outright sleazy. But I want my goddamn games on Day 1 so I always pre-order online from them. I fell right into their greedy clutches. And the real irony here is that I pre-order SMG2 online w/ overnight shipping, but I assume I'll have to wait for it until Monday. That's OK, I can probably milk Alan Wake til then. =P

For those who ordered from Amazon, what is your delivery estimate date? Mine is dated for May 26th. But then I ordered the hardcover guide as well, so maybe that delayed it.

ugh, had my wii at a local video game repair shop (i have a friend who works there, he was gonna get me a deal), but it turns out its a problem with the software and not the hardware. He said they couldn't fix it. So I have to send it to nintendo, pay 85 bucks, and probably lose all of my save data

but worst of all i won't get it sent in until tomorrow probably, meaning it will be a couple weeks until i can play this :( :( :(

They don't realize it but that is the most heartbreaking thing a person can say.

Nope, that's the estimate they've had since it was dated. They won't guarantee it will ship out until Monday the 24th. But it's always possible they'll get some out on Saturday.

If you request it, there’s a good chance they can fix it without losing your saved data. I’ve had to send mine in twice and both times I did not lose my saved data. But again, be sure to request it. Otherwise they won't bother.

But I believe you can back up your saves on an SD card, anyways. If you are really worried.

It's no biggie, probably wouldn't have time to play between Monday and Wednesday, anyways. But would be nice to get it earlier.

Thanks.

The first one was a compliment towards SMG2. It's been, without exaggeration, two years since I've powered on my Wii, but SMG2 will likely end that streak. SMG1 is the only reason I don't regret buying the system.

All the loyalists going berserk over the title change, though, as if nothing like that had ever been done before to a major official thread and Nintendo was being targeted by a despicable troll mod, warranted a punishment title to beat the oversensitive idiots over the head until either their balls dropped or they had a mental collapse. Assume the latter.

Alas, Lyre and Ami are intent on ruining the fun :|

Hey, I have no problem with you putting that title - in fact, I'm amused anyone cared about it at all. I just changed it to the latest one because all the cool kids were doing it.

Do these video players make the game look really smooth, or is the actual game like this? I'm playing Galaxy 1 now, and it doesn't look close to these.

Both games are 60 FPS. Maybe it's your TV?

I should really take advantage of that Amazon deal but no release day delivery is a dealbreaker for me. I guess my impatience will cost me $20.

Is the Kmart deal true? $30 coupon towards another select Mario game?

I still have about 30 stars left with Luigi in the original game. I don't think I'm going to be able to get them all (Damned impossible ones) before Sunday.
